These Grand Central British Rail Class 180 Adelante my by Alstom run quite infrequently from KGX due to their small fleet. They do operate hourly services during certain times of the day.
The service we rode on ran non stop between KGX and YRK completing the trip in just 1 hour 53 minutes. This would make it the fastest diesel (Diesel Multiple Unit) trains to travel between York and London. LNER Azuma does the same route but rarely runs non stop. When they do, the journey time is just 1 hour 49 minutes. Both trains have a maximum speed of 125 mph.
Grand Central advance tickets are usually cheaper than LNER's equivalent.
It is worth noting that these British Rail Class 180 Adelante trains and notoriously unreliable with cases of them catching fire, breaking down having brake failures etc. Thankfully our trip was incident free.
While capable of hydrodynamic braking, this isn't used due to the engines overheating. For this reason, only disc brakes are used.
