In Europe, the ECE rated Shoei hornet weight is 1560g in size Large....so weight is not a problem here...

Thanks for the review. Just purchased my first Hornet X2 and am anxious to get it in use. I agree on the improvements made Sena in their JBL based products. I had older SENAs on previous helmets, and the new JBL versions are massively better in terms of sound quality and noise reduction.

Sena have certainly done a good job with it all. I've got my 50S all sorted and updated in the Hornet and the thing is faultless!

Always found the shoei had very poor ventilation and used to cook in it, hence moving to the arai which I found to be so much cooler. The shoei vent on the top never seemed to work with airflow of the screen.
@ADVBrett

I've heard that a lot too but at the moment not noticing the heat. Been out riding on some 35C to 39C days and it's not as bad as I thought.

The Hornet is nice and really cheap at this point, probably already discontinued. But after having a helmet with a drop down sun shade I don't know if I can go back to one without. Sunglasses are still better when it's really bright but being able to just drop it down is really nice.
@ADVBrett
@ADVBrett Год назад
I looked at the Airoh helmet, that has drop down sun visor and I know a lot of people really love that lid, it's really light too.

Nice video, very helpful, thx. Does the added comms unit on the side add much noise at speed?
@ADVBrett
@ADVBrett 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Michael, yeah the Sena creates a little bit of wind noise but not enough to annoy me. I use earplugs on every ride so that reduces it. Might try a smaller profile comms unit one day in the future.

Hey- which is the ‘roomier’ helmet? Or are they both similar in terms of how tight they fit? Thanks
@ADVBrett
@ADVBrett Год назад
Both very similar in the fit, there's a bit more room around the mouth in the Arai, I find the Shoei to feel more snug which fit me is more comfortable

What are the noise levels like on these two ADV helmets vs the Shoei GT Air II?
@ADVBrett
@ADVBrett Год назад
I'm finding the Shoei helmets both quieter than the Arai but if your looking at the comparison between the GT Air 2 and Hornet, I reckon they're about the same. I would highly recommend NoNoise earplugs if noise is a huge issue.

Hey Gary!! The biggest thing I've learnt is that I certainly do have a Shoei head! I believe you really need to get a feel for both. That being said, I've swayed more towards the Shoei for all round comfort, visibility and noise level.

Sorry? Sell it on? who buys used helmets? Too risky, you have no idea if people have exposed the shell to something that has damaged it. If you can’t afford a $1000 helmet new buy a new one that has all of the type approvals that is within your budget.
@ADVBrett
@ADVBrett Год назад
Yes, sell it on. All of my helmets are well looked after and maintained. The only reason I would keep a helmet was if it was damaged. But since the Arai was in excellent condition, I moved it on.

You need to look more closely at the test data…it’s a bit of an old wives tail to say used helmets are too risky. Destructive testing on modern, quality helmets show the risks are nothing like they were 15-20 years ago…but yes, potentially there is a risk

Currently got a Neotec I, which needs replacement after 5 years. Went to the store for a Hornet but wasnt too impressed tbh. Wandering around the store in disappointment (was reluctantly telling myself just to get a Neotec 3) i stumbled on the Arai. I tried it on and I was very pleasantly suprised to be honest. I decided to hold out on the purchase just to get a bit more information on the Arai. After your review I kinda start to doubt myself. I ride a multistrada v4s and prefer an ADV with that, but in doubt now. Is it just preference or is the Hornet really beter? Thanks 👍🏼 Ps. The Neotec 3 fit just didnt feel great, where i was super happy with the Neotec I. So a new version isn't always an upgrade it seems.
@ADVBrett
@ADVBrett Год назад
I honestly believe it comes down to head shape. Going to the Arai after the GT Air 2 there was a noticeable difference. I liked it but what was getting me was the visor and the problems getting the visor on and off. There is some distortion through the Arai visor and the pinlock does touch the inside of the visor which I also hated. As soon as I put the new Hornet ADV helmet on I knew right away that going back to a Shoei was the best choice

@@ADVBrettjust did a weekend trip with it to Trier Germany. I love the helmet! Had to get used to the peak a bit, especially when it was a bit more windy on the highway. Felt a bit more strain on the neck, but tbh it was neglectable. Thanks for your great video and replies. Helped me make a good choice. Ride safe 🙏🏼
