Followed your video and great explanation. My Ring has great video and sound only on my iPhone, no sound at the device with my iPhone 6. When I setup my iPad, it worked but the sound was barely audible. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the video. Does it show up as hardwired within the app all the time? Mine showed hardwired icon twice for maybe 1 hour total, and it's been on battery icon ever since. I'm not sure if it is supposed to charge the battery all the time. Mine is draining the battery very fast. Thanks!

Found the issue as to why i was not getting any chime sound on motion detection. My iphone ring/silent switch on the side of the phone was muted. Iphone for dummies.. Now my ring door bell 2 works like a charm.

My front door is in a setback. Wide-angle wouldn't be necessary. However, the Ring 2 looks easy to se up even for a rookie! Any other camera suggestion for a setback application? Thanks. John

having seen thje reviews I think it could do with a unit that screws to a wall inside the home so it shows the same video feed simultaniously as the outside camera. Or have additional ones that can be positioned anywhere in the home wirelessly.

Hi and thanks for your review. The way you briefly mentioned the Ring Chime SPEAKER it made people think you could talk both ways with callers via this but you can't, it's just so you can hear the ring chime if someone rings the bell, or there's another sound you can get when it's just movement activated.. there is no two way communication with the person there, using this, just to be clear

If you want to be able to unlock your door with the app, it's possible. There is a door lock compatible with ring system. Use the app to unlock and allow people entry. Thank you it was very helpful. How can you stop the Chime sound outside. It drowns out the dog barking sound from inside the house Also if I use the chime should I turn off rings and motion sound in the app? I had the ring Pro for about 3 weeks it's been rough sitting up but I will not give up because I really like its features once again thank you so much for taking the time to make this video

Thank you, I'm glad to hear the video was helpful! To lower or turn off the chime sounds you just have to open the app and under where it says "my devices," click on the Ring chime device. From here you can click on chime tones and then adjust the volume for your chime device. If you use the chime you can turn off the rings and motion sounds in the app if you want to. But you may want to leave them on for when you are away from home so you can always be notified if someone is near your front door.

I have ring 2 doorbell. it does all these you mentioned but one thing that it does not do when you most want it to work is that when there is a motion or ring at the front door it does not open to allow you to speak to the caller or to see who is at the front door. The app keeps loading and loading and loading up to a minute and then if you are lucky you might get to speak to the delivery guy, if he/she is still hanging around. This is frustrating because the company keeps telling me that my internet is not fast. The router is right behind the front door and the internet is fast at my place and at work. Many time when i request live view it shows black screen and sometimes it won't open. The other big disapointment is that the support I receive from the company is nothing or the bare minimum. I have supbscribed to have my videos stored, and because i delete them from my phone list they say the videos are deleted from their data too. So whats the use of me paying them when they can't keep my videos when i delete them from my list. Until I get answers and better customer support I will not stop pointing out and write reviews to short these issues out.

Any phone you own can also have the app. If you are only running off home wifi, Your laptop with windows 10, your cell phones, your fire tablets so on, as long as all are registered to you. If you are using cellular data, you can give permissions to someone to access

Thanks for the review. I learned how to use the app from your video. I do have two questions. I noticed that one of your sample videos ran for over 3 minutes, how do you set the length of the recording? The most I have ever had is for 30 seconds. The other question is what happens when I don't have cloud storage, can I still see what the camera sees? Is there a way to store videos on my computer? One comment, I have hardwired my Ring and I had Century Link HS Internet but the upload was less than 1.0 mps, I had to switch service in order to get the wifi connection to work with the Ring Doorbell.

No problem. It also captures pretty much all of my recordings in 30 second clips. I'm not sure how that one clip recorded for 3 minutes. I think it might have been because I kept triggering the motion detection beyond the first 30 seconds. But there is not a setting to adjust that. Also, if you don't have the cloud storage plan you can still use the Ring to get notifications when motion is triggered, view live video, and two-way talk with a person in front of your doorbell. However, you won't be able to record and view footage later.

Thanks for the solid info/review. Is there a way to make the windows (or phone) app play a sound when the doorbell button is pushed? I'm trying to set set a Ring 2 up for a friend, and it only makes her phone vibrate when the doorbell button is pushed. Does she need the chime device for that?

No problem. So she does not need the chime for that. Can you check if your friend has volume turned up on her phone. When my phone's volume is turned on it always plays a sound when the doorbell's motion is triggered. So it may be that she has her phone on vibrate only mode. The only other thing I can think of would be to go into her app and go into the "notifications" settings and make sure she has the volume turned on their as well.

In the app click on the Ring Doorbell image in the middle that says Owner. Once there you will find various controls below the words LIVE VIEW, click on image that looks like a bell 🔔 (App Alert Tones) and choose a sound. I prefer the Ring Default but there’s many to choose from including silent at the very top of the list. I hope that this helps.

I agree with most of what you say but my biggest issue is I get notified every time a car drives by. I have adjusted the cone for the motion several times to fix it but for some reason it will not save and it drives me nuts. Also customer service is not very knowledgeable when it comes to the items they sell. Other than that It is a pretty good product.

I love my Ring Pro. I do wish however there was a way to have 24/7 recording similar to Nestcams. When Nest hello comes out, I'm going to have to consider changing just because of that one reason.

Yes each user can have the app installed on their phone and each user can have different notification settings.

Question: can one leave a pre-recorded greeting that would come on when someone rings the bell, say, if you are asleep or out of town and wish to make it seem that you are home and can't open the app or reach your phone. The simulated greeting and pre-rendered conversation would automatically switch-on in substitution of your own voice or a live person.

That's an interesting idea, but that is not available with Ring doorbells at the moment. However, you can speak to the person at your door in real time if you wish.

Thanks! I don't believe you should have any issues as you are able to access both live streams and captured videos remotely through the app from wherever you are. For best streaming performance they recommend 2 Mbps upload and download speeds.

Great review of the Ring 2 video doorbell. The best that I have seen so far. How important is it mount the video doorbell at the correct height? I believe Ring suggest to mount the doorbell at 4 feet. 4 feet seems too low to me, why not mount it out 5 to 5 1/2 feet (the avg height of someone ringing the doorbell). I just purchased the Ring 2 and I have yet to install it, I would assume that Ring has corrected some of the issues reported on the earlier versions. Would you please elaborate. Thank you.

Thank you, I'm glad it was helpful. I think you would be fine to put it around 5 feet. I put mine around 4 feet and do feel the camera angle is a little low for when someone is literally right in front of the camera. But as long as they are at least 2 feet away from the camera 4 feet high works great as well 👍 I guess the 4 ft recommendation is more because that's where the average person's arm typically reaches when they press a doorbell.

Question? On the mute button on live view if it is unmute can they hear me or can I just hear them?

Good question. If the grey icon with the speaker is muted that means that they are muted. But if you click on the green phone icon you will then see two grey icons on the right side. One is that same speaker icon, which if muted, will mute them. The other one you'll see is a grey microphone icon. If you mute this one that means it will mute your voice.

I returned the Ring pro for a Ring 2 after changing out the doorbell transformer. The image quality has improved with the Ring 2 but typically I only get recordings as people are walking away from the camera. I still have yet to actually answer the door with the Ring app using a Samsung S10+. The app will let me know that somebody is at the door and promptly lock up so I cannot speak with the visitor.

Yes they can ally sync together using the same Ring app. You just have to connect them to your Ring app and you'll be able to access and view all your cameras from the one app.

Hey, how can I get the ring to Record motion longer because it stops recording in the middle of any emotion that is going on so if there is an illegal activity in front of my door I will only get half or part of that activity

That is a good question. As far as I know it can only record in 30 second intervals. But if motion continues it should keep recording another 30 second interval immediately after and so on until the motion event stops.

Veronica B , hello, I have a roommate who I noticed-that he can get around the doorbell without being recorded.. it worries me cause he’s new here, and I don’t understand why it bothers him .. but for example. My in house Camera recorded him getting home at .3:08pm then I checked my ring last recording was of a car at 3:02. How and why wasn’t he recorded? He’s forced to motion it..

Great Doorbell usually works well. Great Tech support too. But sadly it all depends on your Wi/fi and usually it works. But when it goes down and your not at home and you have to reboot the system. It has to wait till you get back home to make it work again. So basically if your wi/fi screws up there goes your security system.

If I do NOT hard-wire it to my existing doorbell wiring, can it still ring my traditional existing doorbell chime? It's useless to me if it won't ring the old chime on the wall when pressed. Thanks.

No, unfortunately if you don't hard wire it to your existing doorbell wiring it will not still ring your existing doorbell chime. If not hard wired it will ring through the Ring Chime device instead. And if it is hard wired it will ring through both.

You skipped the Link Chimes app. I just installed my video ring doorbell and on my app it has that am I supposed to do anything? I only have the doorbell and my phone had me pick a sound for it on my phone but not in that app!?!? What to do?

I purchased mine through Costco and it comes with a 1 year free Cloud Storage plan. Can you set up the Cloud plan from the App?

Yes you just have to create a Ring account on the app and then you can set up the cloud plan from Costco in there.

Also when going over the old videos stored, is there anywhere that shows the date and time? I didn't see any evidence of this on menus in the app or anything.. maybe because you didn't open that part of the menu, but who knows. Can you search videos by date and time? Is there any visible record of date and time which would be useful to police for example too

Yes inside the app it organizes recorded videos with most recent captured videos on top. Next to each video in the app there is a timestamp with the date and time the video is recorded. However, there is no timestamp displayed when the video footage is played.

You can set it to do either one in the app's settings. By default it's set to vibrate/ring on your phone whenever motion is detected but you can adjust this to either completely off or also adjust the motion detection sensitivity.

No problem! That is an interesting question. Since you can monitor multiple Ring devices in the same app account I would think this is possible. But I am not 100% sure. I would recommend contacting them just to be sure. On the bottom of their website they have a customer service number where I'm sure they can give you the correct answer.

Great video! I just have one question that I can't seem to find the answer to...How long is the recording time once the sensor is activated? In other words, will it record once motion is activated until the motion ends or does it trigger and only record for a set amount of time? Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

Thank you! The doorbell records in 30 second clips. So whenever motion is detected it will record for that much time following the motion that triggered it. If motion is still going on after 30 seconds it will then begin recording a 2nd 30 second clip and so on until the motion stops.

I have a Ring doorbell at home. My spouse is the owner of this account. I just installed a Ring 2 at my office and I am not able to set up an account on my cell phone. The phone tries to use the already installed app and I do not have authority to add a user. Besides that issue I want to keep the work account separate from my home account. Can you help me?

Double sided sticky pads which are available at any hardware store. But it's not recommended

Hi! Thanks for the review. I have a question please. We travel quite a bit and I’ve noticed that we never get alerts when we’re away. No events are saved while we’re away either. When we are local, we get them but not when we are outside of our time zone. Is this a shortcoming or can it be fixed in settings?

No problem! Hmmm, when you are away traveling, if you are not connected to WiFi, is your mobile data turned on? Your phone will either need to be connected to WiFi or running on mobile data to receive the alerts. The only other thing I could think of is when you are away traveling is your home WiFi network still running? If you turn off your router or modem when you travel the Ring doorbell will have no way of sending you alerts.

The Ring Doorbell 2 does not require a transformer or hardwired connection. But if you would like to it can be can be hard wired. Like you said this would always keep the battery fully charged at all times. If you do hardwire it the recommendation is for your transformer to have a voltage between 16V-24V and at least 30VA of amperage for the best results.

I believe this is possible if you hard wire it to your current door bell. Other than that a chime will be needed. But you may want to confirm this on the Ring Doorbell's Amazon page just to be sure 👍

Yes you can be anywhere in the world and still get notifications if someone rings your doorbell or if motion is detected in front of your house. However, there must be WiFi on at your house for this to work.

Yes you can zoom in on both live and recorded videos through the app. However the more you zoom in the image will become more pixelated.

You can zoom in but the amount that Amazon has degraded the video quality recently you won't be able to make anything out. Don't believe me check out the ring group on reddit. Lot of Ring Pro /Ring 2 disgruntled owners.

I just installed the ring doorbell 2 and find it's OK. I had an incident outside my house and wanted to review the footage but it didn't record it. It recorded the 1st 20 seconds of motion then stopped, the incident happened after the 20 seconds. Is there anyway of getting footage after the 20 seconds? If not then it's not that good. It takes a snapshot (photo) every hour but that's no good if something happens outside your fence inside each hourly snapshot! 🤔 I have the 30 day free trial so any motion detection is captured but only 20 seconds which is some cases is useless! Any feedback to help would be greatly appreciated 👍

I just used a standard power drill and it was able to drill through the brick. It was recommended to me to use a "carbide-tipped masonry drill bit" for the brick though. It was also recommended to me to drill in phases by starting with drilling a smaller hole first, then working my way up to the diameter I needed 👍

No if the WiFi you're phone is connected to is lagging then you may not get live notifications in real-time.

For that height I would probably recommend getting their floodlight camera because its camera angle is adjustable. The only thing is it will have to be drilled into a nearby wall.

In order to work fully you must have high speed wifi/internet. At least 2.0 upload and download. Live view will not work if you don't have these settings.
