I have no issues except for it to occasionally trigger and record when loud cars and big trucks pass by even when I tweaked the motion settings. Also, it has a tendency to start recording later than I wanted it to be and most delivery guys moves pretty quick that the camera will only record the time they are turning to head back to their van.

I then tried replacing it with the Ring Doorbell 2 when it first came out which I actually had high hopes for that the motion detection would be better aside from being a 1080p resolution---- but it wasn't. The original doorbell was better made than the version 2 and the only difference for my needs was the camera's resolution and I eventually decided to keep my original doorbell.
I was eyeing the Ring Doorbell pro next that I helped my buddy out to install his at his townhouse. The only thing that prevents me from purchasing one was the price. The ring doorbell pro retails at 250 dollars and my original Ring doorbell is just working fine so I wasn't really ready to upgrade...
Until a couple of weeks ago, I got a promo email from Ring. I'm assuming that if you have their original doorbell, you probably got the email also. It is an upgrade promo in which you will save $150 dollars if you upgrade your doorbell to the Ring doorbell Pro.
It peaked my interest and at first, I thought it is one of those that there will be some type of a catch. I clicked anyways and it was definitely a $150 dollar off their $250 dollar doorbell camera. With all said and done and after my 10% off by being a Ring Protect customer, the Ring doorbell Pro shipped to my home cost me $80.21.

Thanks, this is exactly the info I was looking for. I'm in the process of returning a ring 2 to Costco because I didn't realize the video delay it would have. I also didn't realize that even being hardwired, it was limited by the battery settings. I'll be installing a pro soon.

Thank-you for taking the time to do this great review; it is very informative and helpful. We have the original Ring 1 and it recorded 2 guys last night at 3:40AM discussing breaking into our house. The guy at the door was looking around and saw the Ring doorbell, realized video and audio was being recorded, freaked out, and quickly walked away (prior to that, the other guy was telling him to smash the door down). So this Ring 1 doorbell acted as a deterrent from our house being broken into at 3:40AM. Now, we are a bit concerned and want to add additional cameras around the house, and based on your great video, I want to upgrade to the Ring Pro. Thanks for doing this!

Wow. That is good that the Ring prevented a crime. Ring Pro is going to be way better and even the Ring 2. If you have the Ring and want to add more cameras, they have a variety of choices for security cameras and I have videos on most of them. I recommend the wired/or plugged in versions though..not the battery powered ones.

This is an excellent review, thank you for posting. I was in a debate between the Ring 2 deal at Costco or paying a bit more for the Pro. You sold me on the Pro for sure. Hopefully there will be some deals for Black Friday.

LifeHackster Yes it was on sale about 3-4 days ago. $99 off. $149 and you could use a $20 off coupon. I bought 3 online and picked up at my local lowes. You could also do free shipping.

Great review. Being an owner of the original ring doorbell, that upgrade offer sounded great. I checked my past emails for that upgrade offer and discovered I never received that offer. I contacted Ring directly and discovered they had No interest in letting me have that offer, even when explaining that I never received the offer. I was very disappointed in their lack of understanding or their willingness to work with me

I am using the Ring Doorbell 2 in wireless mode and it records right from when it first detects even slight motion till the end when the moving object/person has left the range, I have had no issues at all. I really don't understand all the complaints regarding the late notifications and incomplete recordings. Its really working exceptionally well for me.

One big benefit of the Ring Pro as compared to PIR based battery powered Ring 2 is that it will start recording 3 seconds before the motion is detected. So, the footage will start while the subject is still out of the frame of the camera. The Ring 2 will always start with the subject already in the frame of the camera.

@@LifeHackster How does it do that though? Does it detect the sound or some other type of vibration? I also don't really see any big advantage to that over starting to record when the actual subject is detected within the frame of the camera if the doorbell is positioned well enough at a distance that will let the viewer of the recording clearly see the subject first enter the frame. I also do realize that this is a major advantage over the Ring doorbell 1, but I think they improved a lot in version 2 that the Pro might be just marginally better. I think you should redo this video comparing the doorbell 2 to the Pro.

# the ring pro 2 is always on (but not recording) and when it detects motion, it has a buffer and will retrieve 3 seconds of footage before it got triggered. Depending on your field of view, those 3 seconds can help where the person came from...dropped off from a car, from your neighbors house etc.

I only replaced my parents OG doorbell to the 2 once the OG stopped drawing power and ringing the internal bell, I had replaced it again to the 3+ for preroll

You are lucky to have gotten that upgrade offer from Ring, even though it was last year. I just bought an upgrade from the Ring Doorbell to the Ring Doorbell Pro, from Best Buy, and I had to pay the $250. Sure would have been nice to have been able to get a deal like you got. But, I just installed the Pro today, so I’m still tweaking the Motion Detection Areas. Thanks for your video information.

I've got the 720p version but looking at the pro version 1080p I would say it's still not perfect so wouldn't be worth buying so I'm glad I watched your video. Just hope ring sort these problems out before they lose their customers. Cheers mate

I got the ring doorbell 2 for X-Mas and it has all the problems that you stated in the video. The motion detection stinks as I catch more cars on video than I do people. Hope they improve this on the ring 3 releasing soon.

That's true and for only 10 bucks or 100 dollar a year for unlimited cameras in one address and professional alarm monitoring. Nobody right now even gets close to that price.

I have the pro and it is amazing it I would never go back it's a meeting doorbell and just last week I had a smartphone dropped off the nobody and was able for them to leave it because they talk to me here in Canada that's as best as going to get

I like the newer Ring Pro 2 even more. I had a pro, but did not like the video quality (soft focus) and hated the audio. Pro 2 has better quality video and superb audio. The other feature I like over the non-wired battery powered Ring doorbell is that the video capture starts earlier, by about 6 seconds. It can do this because video is constantly on since we don't have to save battery power. So 6 seconds before a motion detect or doorbell press, you get to see the visitor walk up and show his face. He may notice the camera and try to block it, but it's too late, he is recorded as he approached. This early capture seems earlier on the Pro 2 than the Pro, capturing 6 seconds preview vs. maybe 3 on the Pro. Very nice feature. The Pro 2 costs more, but to me it's worth it. One burglary prevented covers any cost, and I feel safer. I also added a cam up high, in case they block the doorbell cam. Insurance.

Thanks for the video! I watched this and your nest video. I have a original ring from ADT. But I’m really displeased with it. So much lag in video recording and lag in live view. From this review sounds like the ring pro has eliminated this issues? Cause every time I call ring support they say it’s my WiFi signal and they sent me a chime pro. That still didn’t work and the chime pro is right next time and has good signal. So in short is the pro solve the lag issues? I’m sold if it does. Cause I didn’t like the lag from the nest video for motion either you did.

My Ring Pro records fine and once in a while, I will get the black screen rotating circle screen but when you cancel and try again, it usually works.

I never had a doorbell pre wired in my home. Can i use a power adapter with this hooked up to an outdoor socket instead of cutting a hole in my wall to install wiring?

It is around 30-45 degrees....it is how the wall beside the door was designed..

Not really, it only records when there is motion. There is no option for 24/7 continuous recording.

I just bought a ring video door bell, it was the only one sold at my local hardware store. Installing was easy but recording was with a HUGE delay! Disappointing really because all I am seeing is well nothing because whomever was there was already gone. So much for security and they want me to pay them for something that doesn't work! What would you suggest for me to obtain a coupon for the upgrade to the pro version?

Yes, the Ring Pro will start recording 3 seconds before the motion has been triggered so you will get the whole motion footage.

Funny you asked because I tried. I have a friend of mine that even before the email promo, he already told me that he was planning to buy the Pro doorbell. When I got the email, at first I thought the promo was for everybody. Forwarded the email (after I bought it) and he said that it didn't work for him...So, I contacted Ring and see if they can spare a promo code but they said it was only for the older Ring customers...

Did you not have the awful audio feedback problem that people are having lately? I tried to install one last weekend and the two-way was completely useless. It sounded like metal scraping up on metal. This appears to be a common problem and ring hasn’t found a solution in several months? If you didn’t have a problem I’m wondering if it’s just a problem with several units and I should try a different unit. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Love your reviews!

Ring has a tendency to fix what is not broken and eventually they will mess up whatever is working. It is mostly a firmware issue and something usually messes up when they update their firmware. Mine still works ok but occasionally it can have a lot of static.

It does when it is wired up to my doorbell wires. I don't think it lights up when it is solely on battery power.

No, you cannot. The only way to turn it off for color recording is to have a bright enough porch light that can turn off the light sensor. -> ring.com/share/6585677722389275573

Hi. I finally got the classic ring doorbell. I noticed you installed on a brick surface. Can I use black and decker 18v cordless driver drill that has a 750 rpm motor to make 4 holes into a brick to so I can put 4 anchor screws to install my ring doorbell? Or will I need a hammer drill?

No need for a hammer drill in a brick..it is soft enough for just a regular drill..just use the included masonry bit.

Ring 2 or the original ring doorbell camera..the ring pro is the wired version.

I am sure you have had this question before...why does ring Video Doorbell 2 not ring my chimes any more? It did for the first while after installation. Is the ring chime Pro compatible with ring Video Doorbell 2 and will it solve my problem and give me a doorbell ring inside my house again?

I’m not sure why it is not ringing your chime even when wired to your doorbell wires..even just the regular ring chime will work as a chime inside the house.

Yes and you do need to connect them with your main doorbell. They are wired.

Just installed the pro a week ago but having problems getting the “live view” when on cellular data but on WiFi it’s works perfectly. Any solutions? Ring blames it on my cellular provider.

I get that same problem with my ring door bell, when I click the live view some times I get in most of the time not, I would have to question is it really the cell phone or is it the door bell
