Ring Video Doorbell and Chime Review 

Thanks for taking the time to put together a very informative video for people thinking about getting the Ring Doorbell. They are fairly easy to install. I’ve had mine for six months and can’t imagine not having one now. I’ve been at Disneyland and talked to someone at my door 50 miles away. I love this technology.

We just installed our ring doorbell 2 with chime I have to go ring apps for the chime to work thank your your video is very helpful

I was looking at this today at costco and do you know it said on the box that ring will replace your device if it is stolen from your door! that's pretty cool. I live in a townhouse that is simular to an apartment community

There's got to be a way to record the video without paying the subscription maybe press record on your phone when it starts happening someone will think of it

Good review, I just installed my Ring doorbell today. Had problems attaching the base to my external stucco wall as it was not flat. Ended up using the red industrial double stick similar to what you showed in the video. I have noticed video latency issues after the device detects motion or somebody pushes the doorbell but I believe mine might be due to my slow DSL connectivity. (7mb down/600kb up) I am also considering moving the wifi/router closer to the doorbell as well. The interior construction of the old stucco wall may be hindering the wifi signal and since I don't have a way to measure signal gain/loss unless I can find a iOS or android app.

I appreciate your effort in making this video, I've been considering installing one of these to start a more thorough home security effort. A question: are other cameras available for remote observation of separate rooms or other entrances to your home?

My issue with the door bell is that anyone can ripped it from the front door to steel or break in the house what would happen is that's the case? Would I be able to see what's goin on with out the door bell?

Great review but... you can put it on metal you don't need double sided tape I have it on my front door and it doesn't move or have any WiFi problems it's a great device and review video

Hi, can i ask you, if i wired my ring device to an existing chime, would the issue go away in regards of 5 sec delay with the wireless chime? I want to make sure that when someone does press the bell, even if the video dont work, i can still use it as a normal bell without any delays! At the moment i have a chime, which is wired to a normal standard bell.

I have the original ring now for a year. It was hard wired to the house and worked great. Now, there must have been an upgrade, as it's no longer wired to the house and the inside chime stopped working. I called my ADT carrier and they now use ring and are coming to upgrade me to ring 2. One question what does the Wi-Fi extender do? Since we switched from xfinity to att man do I regret that! Thanks great video.

So I can use double sided tape to a metal door as long as I don't use screws? That won't interfere with my WiFi? I wasn't clear on that part. Thanks

I have the metal door as well. So I use the double sided tape to put my ring on the metal door or next to it on the wall? That's what I didn't get.

Just what I wanted to know . I was worried that if all our phones were off like at night then we wouldn’t hear the doorbell . So I bought the chime

Worked great for 3 days but now my door bell does not ring. Video is fine and wifi works great but do door bell. Don't know what to do.

I didn't realise that I wouldn't be able to hear the bell and missed a few callers. So I bought a chime but I get right to the end of installing it then I get a message saying something happened and it hasn't connected. Very frustrating!!!

My ring chime no longer functions and now I can't get into my ring account. I reset my password and it says it's going to send a code and never does. I'm ripping all this crap out and going with another brand. I'm done.

Do you get the video saved to the cloud ONLY on pressing the doorbell, or do you also get video saved to the cloud from the motion detector.....I have had the unfortunate experience of someone stealing packages off the doorstep, and they DID NOT ring the doorbell 1st.

I dont have Ring video doorbell. I have found using an old video camera and an older laptop. I was able to see what was going on in front of my house, from work. At the time I was using Yahoo video chat. I could see and hear everytone. But I couldn't speak to anyone. I recently bought and video doorbell. I don't like having to go to cloud to view notications. And the regular video I get almost instant access with only a 7 second delay. PEACE !!!!!!!

So do you still need any existing doorbell/by pass power kit If you buy the wireless doorbell chime or a chime pro?

I'm a newbie when it comes to this whole video doorbell stuff. However, the technician installed my Ring Video doorbell 3 but did not connect it to the existing (working) doorbell. He just put it on the exterior brick wall. When anybody comes to my door they continue to press my old doorbell. Will I still be able to get a picture of them on my phone and talk with them?

I have an odd (perhaps) 🤔 question?! My neighbor just installed one & our townhomes are quite close to each other, so can they hear our conversations on a regular now? Like when we're on our pathway, driveway, or garage? In other words, how strong is the audio "pickup"? Besides their motion detection picking up OUR every move now, do they get to hear OUR personal conversations now too? 🙄

My ring video has been up for almost 6 months and all of a sudden my doorbell has stopped working. I had it hardwired to my existing doorbell. any ideas?

Tape your doorbell up that's pretty sad ..... you can't fix things with duct tape either... Install proper and use the screws.......

I bought a Ring Doorbell Pro for my parents for christmas. My dad ended up hard wiring the first one and never saw the light come up around the button. Please keep in mind that he is an electrician and did everything correcting. Checking things multiple times before he took it off and handed it back to me to return, saying it was defective. Took it back, got a new one, same thing happened. This time he called customer service and they gave him advice that was useless to him because he had already done everything they recommended. Do you think it has anything to do with the wifi? I hate for him to try to set another one up if it is going to do the same thing again, but my mom really wants one. Any advice would be wonderful!

So, I have bought a "Doorbell 2". There are some bugs. If it detects that it the environment is dark to some degree, when motion causes the camera to activate, or if I enable Live View, it will capture in Grayscale with infrared LEDs. No color video. That's fine. But if say I have the doorbell in my room with the lights on (or if it was installed outside and it was daytime), and the camera activates, it records in COLOR. That's fine. But then as it is capturing in color, then, I place the doorbell in a dark place, by shutting off the lights. PROBLEM - in a completely dark environment in color recording mode (no infrared LEDs on), the video is very stuttery. 1 or 2 frames per second. If i put in just a bit of light, such as I stop blocking the blue rotating LEDS on the doorbell with my hand, then the video is smooth again. I block it out, video is very very choppy. Not sure if that is a computational problem where it is attempting to do math for detection or for video quality. Also, it will not switch from color/day to black and white (LEDs)/night on the fly. The camera has to shut off and then another event happen. Finally, no HD video. Looks like it is about 360p. Internet connection is good with a 50MbPS Comcast connection close to a high end router. Battery in the device is at about 50% and not hard wired yet. So, I HOPE it is just because the battery isn't fully charged & not hard wired.

you need 1Mbit upload for the Ring and 2Mbit for the Ring Pro

I think there are two issues: 1. what if the intruder/burglar just cuts the electricity (which disables router and the wifi) or for some other reason wifi doesn't work and it's not recording to the cloud. 2. even with the double tape + screws and whatever, you can rip it off/damage the device easy, which kinda makes me think if its worth to invest 150$+ for something that is just hanging outside my door rather being in the peephole/cat eye.

Good Video. my ring is place on my aluminum siding. Do you think I need to do the double sided tape. Because I notice that video don't come on instantly it take a few minutes. I do have good wifi around the house because I have several cameras. Also I use to have the DoorBell Fon DP-28IT Door Answering and I want to used the wire installation from that with a plug in transformer. have you tired that yet.

I'm sorry, but I thought that salacious (0:21) referred to sexual connotations. My apologies if I'm wrong. My door is entirely made of metal. And the doorbell is off to one side of the house, which is wood and it lays low. I don't think I'll be able to see whoever is ringing the doorbell at that angle.

1 second ago all ring products are really bad the video freezes all the time with great wifi signals 95mbs down 13mbs up their tech support are friendly but they have no clue what they are doing stay far away from ring products. there is so many better companies out there that their video doorbell works 100% better then ring plus no monthly service charge go on amazon an look up video doorbells it will save you a lot of money. the ring doorbell 1 or 2 or pro they are horrible

The review did not include anything about wiring to a house doorbell. I have done this step several ways and it does not charge the system or ring the house doorbell.

Thank u it is easier than what I thought especially about the 2 sided sticky tape my husband does not like to drill anything into the outside walls so thanks about that tape also I thought I had to connect it to my doorbell so it is nice that I don’t have to do that, all I have to use is the plug-in chime. How much did Ring pay you to do this video? Ring is cheap and recordings never look this good. Just check out some of the neighborhood alert videos to see how grainy are all the ring videos.

3M double sided tape, where to get this thanks. Ring should also provide that too. Does that mean easy to remove and recharge as you need to do this every year???
