Specifically on the note of placing the game in a period where western influences were gaining a foothold in Japan, something charming I noticed was that if you set the game's spoken language to Japanese, you can still sometimes hear American NPCs delivering incidental voice lines in English. American characters do still speak Japanese in cutscenes, to make sure important dialogue aligns with the selected language, but hearing the occasional bit of English dialogue from enemies in combat or while wandering in the cities stands out and contributes to the setting.
What a great detail. I could never play games like these set to English. Same with Sekiro. It just feels like so much is lost in translation. Not for lack of execution, but in its essence.
I think thats a really cool touch, something I wish more games would embrace when dealing with multicultural aspects. Having occasional barks be in the characters native language, where story elements stay in the game/system language is a really good touch
I'm so glad someone still remembers the Tenchu series. The music playing brought back so many memories. I played every single Tenchu game that ever came out. God I wish Fromsoft would bring that series back, especially now since the developer that primarily worked on the Tenchu series, Acquire, is now under Kadokawa ownership, the same parent company that owns FromSoftware.
Its a detail also used in nioh where characters would speak jp to one another then english to william. I think some dlc characters were Spanish as well
I think it's also present in Pyre, Pentimemt and Tyranny I think? It's always welcome for games that are story-heavy, long and/or set in a specific time period or lore-rich setting.
"More importantly you can pet cats" Truly the best feature in any game! Great looking game that I will most definitely play! Great video as always Zullie!
This is a great way to do a sponsor-ad vid - have it in the title, and make it clear upfront. And they let you keep it in your personal style of text on screen and music with the slow-moving camera and mostly-stationary character. You explain the first bit of the plot to introduce the main quest, and spend most of the time explaining gameplay elements like weapons and traversal and customization AND CATS! Best use of stealth - pet the cats :3 NGL, the mechanic where you can swap to other characters and immediately start controlling them AND revive your fallen counterpart? Really nice addition to the action-game formula. Congrats on the big sponsor! I assume you get bigger return for a full 5-min vid than just a shout-out at the start like WOT has done. We love to see a soulstuber succeed! :D
It’s genuinely so great to see you getting sponsorships. I’ve been watching you since I first played a soulsborn and have always loved your short and longer form content. You deserve it man, keep up the great work!
@@GG-ou7it Actually, Sony is already bringing their exclusives to PC, for example, both Horizon games, God of War and soon Ghost of Tsushima. Of all PS5 exclusives, I think Rise of the Ronin is quite likely.
that tenchu music takes me back.. honestly, i didnt think i wanted this game but after seeing the rooftop steath kill alongside the og tenchu bgm.. i think i might gotta
It was a good choice from the sponsor to pick you for covering this game. I had no idea you could play as a girl in this title! I will now buy your video game!
This seems like one of those hidden gems that people will talk about years from now but doesn't currently have the space to shine in the middle of bigger releases
Came here from the cats video, couldn't help but notice that the example cat you picked looked a lot like Penelope. Rest in peace, little friend, you were a beloved companion. 😭😭😭
This looks fun - looks like it contains mechanics that I really enjoy. I'll remember this, Rise of the Ronin, next time I'm in the shop. Congrats, Zullie!
But theres one gaming sin Team Ninja keeps on committing, and its a manor sin considering their games are loot-centric: Their inventory screens scroll WITH the cursor, instead of AWAY from the cursor. So what I mean is that when you get a new item, and you want to view it by checking the ‘new item’ indicator, you dont actually get to see whats new because the inventory screen moves when the cursor is at the very edge - meaning you pass over the new item indicator and never actually see what ls new. It would be sensible to have it scroll with the cursor in the MIDDLE of the screen. Suck a stupid thing that they keep on doing across all their games, LOOT-centric games at that!
Not quite true. The cursor stops at the second to last item while you scroll iirc. And a setting in nioh 2 allows the new marker to stay until the cursor is moved past the item.
The Tenchu: Stealth Assassin track threw me back to a previous lifetime long ago, it was beautiful, thank you. It may sound silly, but I actually reached out to my estranged Brother because of this.
This is so awesome you went from shorter lore vids to full fledged review mode for a big title game! Congrats! (Or maybe I missed a bit of time in-between 🤔)
A well deserved sponsor for one of the greatest to ever do it. Game looks like a good time all told, but as I am exclusively a PC gamer, unless they plan on bringing the title to the beige box brigade in the future, it'll unfortunately be a title that passes me by. And thanks for everything you do Zullie, I always load up the video whenever you pop up in my notifications. Here's to you getting more big sponsors in the future!
I was hesitant about this game, but this sold me. Looks like Nioh-style mechanics with even more complex/fluid combat (yes please) and an open world to boot. Your video offered detailed info about the game while still being efficient with time. Will definitely be buying this next paycheck.
This video made me want more Tenchu due to the music at the start :D Really liking Rise of the Ronin, but it is taking me a bit of time to master the combat. I have been really busy just exploring the map and finding cats to hug :D
Mite b cool to check out when it comes out on PC. I think a neat part about how your channel works is that it's much more objective presentation when you get a sponsor like this; not having to see/hear a personality put on fake airs and interest to try and sell something.
3:20 Worth noting since it's probably something that would confuse people, Japan during this time period already had access to firearms (the Arquebus was invented in the East and already saw action at the dawn of the Edo Period during the conflict that saw the rise of the Tokugawa Shogunate). It might simply be that they weren't as widely used.
Have you considered making videos on other Souls-like games? I've been playing Lies of P recently, and the world is very intriguing to say the least. Awesome that you got a sponsor!! Love your videos :D
Your video has done a better job selling the game to me than any other articles or videos I've seen. I didn't know about the character switching or how nice the combat was. I've mostly just seen discussion over how disappointed some people were with the graphics. With this video however, I'm much more inclined to buy it!
This is an awesome way to showcase a game. I was interested in getting this game, until I saw Skill Up's fairly negative review of the game. Now after watching your showcase though, I think I'm going to pick this game up!
Hearing that it was a vaguely souls-like game with the core to combat that you controlled a twin and could swap to the other in combat, allowing you to equip different loadouts to exploit vulnerabilities and revive each other seemed like an amazing combat gimmick... and then apparently for most of the game that doesn't actually apply because you're separated. If that's not wasted potential, i don't know what is
holy cow, you used the Mini Ninja's soundtrack for this video! you sly dog, sneaking that in like that! for anyone who's never played it, think chibi Nioh meets X-Men and you're close, it's a super chill and very fun game that i highly recommend!
Loving the game so far. I'm nearing the end but even with all of the time I've put in I'm still not wanting it to end. One important addition to the section about gear is that there's also a completely separate "cosmetic" system that functions similar to WoW where you "memorize" the look of every piece of gear you pick up and can then create sets piece by piece that glamour over your actual gear, so no need to ever wear something "bad" for appearances only. A real step forward in Fashion-Souls. Also, there is no longer a weight system for gear so it's less cumbersome to sort through gear the gear you pick up. If you dislike the Nioh style loot system you can simply just look at whether your Attack or Defence number goes up (and in the case of weapons if it's a weapon type you like using) and then ignore the rest.
