I feel like it's important to factor in the way this game plays when analyzing its music. As time passes in the game, the difficulty slowly exponentially rises. You, on the other hand, pick up items that drastically change the way you play, and you exponentially grow more powerful. As things go on, this game of attrition gets crazier and crazier, throwing more insane enemies at you until it's throwing boss monsters every second while you spit out hundreds of rockets or crazy effects on the endless hordes, until you make one small slip up in the chaos and meet your doom. Or... not? There's a risk of rain, and every drop could kill you.

Chris has a whole video where he shows off his work setup and project file just for this track. You'd probably find it a super interesting watch as a musician. Not as a reaction suggestion, just something to watch on your own.

At the end of the video, you can see the logo of Prince, since the guitar solo was paying homage to Purple Rain.

I've been recently addicted to this game, i was thrown for a surprise with the music, it goes HARD

If you want more Risk of Rain bangers I'd recommend Coalescence from the first game and …con lentitud poderosa from the second game. Both pieces being in the same video would work incredibly well too even if they have quite different vibes, without spoiling anything else :)

The thing about this OST is that it can clash SO HEAVILY with the actual gameplay (if you know, you know) that it almost serves to emphasize how good the music is

I am so glad you're dipping your toe into the Risk of Rain soundtrack, probably one of my favorite OSTs of the past few years.

Risk of Rain 2 has become the backbone of my playlist and my game library. The music and the gameplay is something that I can always come back to and enjoy.

The entire Risk of Rain 1 and 2 soundtracks are incredible. There is so much style. I have affinity for somber sounds and this song speaks to me. I really do recommend listening to the whole OST.

All of Chris's works are awesome but i particularly like the "Deadbolt" soundtrack, it's really good. Funk, rock and badass reaper all in one ost.

Happy to see some Tauk recommended! Chris Christodoulou is such an integral part of Risk of Rain 1/2 with their soundtracks, glad to finally see this and more coming up! They also have uploaded behind-the-scenes commentary for the soundtracks which are super cool, a specific I like from it is how they explain that at least early on, most of the "guitars" are synth patches made to replicate the sound. Definitely recommend checking it out!

believe it or not, this plays on the most chaotic and difficult level in the entire game.

An absolutely incredible game with an absolutely incredible soundtrack. I'd definitely recommend "con lentitud poderosa" or "Once in a Lullaby", those are both really great tracks from this game. (edit) as for the setting for The rain Formerly Known As Purple, it plays in a location called the Sky Meadow, a ring of floating islands bathed in this violet haze, with the moon looming in the background like a giant monolith. It serves pretty much as the last level before the final level in a run and is definitely one of my favourite maps in terms of visuals and ambience.

Chris Christodoulou makes soundtracks that can be described as pure _atmospheric_ tension that slowly builds systems on top of each other until the _pressure_ drops.

Kay here. I was planning on recommending The Raindrop That Fell to The Sky as it's my favorite, but this track in particular is what got me into Chris' music. So if you ever want to listen to other tracks in RoR2 then I'd con letitud poderosa, The Raindrop That Fell to The Sky, Into The Doldrums, and Antarctic Oscillation are my faves. (There's also the new DLC tracks, but that'd be too many recs at this point.)

The sheer funk and style of Christodoulou's stuff is amazing, so many are on my playlists. love that his tracks evolve so much you hear something new every time. Not to mention how he uses leitmotif in most OST!

This OST is incredible! I'm so glad I was able to find someone finally reacting to it. I think a great track to listen/react to off of this OST is "The Raindrop That Fell To The Sky". It's my favorite and I think you will love it too! Side note: Your setup is incredible. Mic quality, lighting, effects and editing are top notch, it's hard to find videos with this level of quality.

The big reference to Purple Rain in this song is the riff, which is very close to being 1 to 1 the exact same riff from the end of Purple Rain lol.

Ooh unexpected, I've only recently got into this game and was genuinely surprised by the music. It felt really emotional at times even though I'm basically just blasting aliens and trying to survive most of the time LOL.

I've been waiting for you to get to some Risk of Rain music, glad it was this one and you liked it so much. This song is definitely special, but at the same time the way you described what you liked about it, you will be into the entirety of RoR 1 and 2's OSTs. For another awesong song from RoR2 I'd recommend the raindrop that fell to the sky... but whatever has been requested they're all bangers so I'm excited for when you get them.

First time I noticed this music was when I was on the level right before the last boss level and I was being swarmed with enemies and a flying rock smacked me off the edge. This was also the first time I learned you won't die by falling off the edge. A lot of learning happened when this banger of a song kicked off. Also heard this music again when on the moon. I think it was because I spent a lot of time exploring everything lol.

You mentioned how do so many people know about these things but I think its because of that really base experience of being human. We create habits for ourselves and identify what we like and we just kind of stick to it while rarely going outside of our own grain but if you take some time, maybe one day out of the month, to just go off and explore something that may be closely related to or just outside of your norm, you'll come to find a plethora of new things you didn't know you liked or enjoyed. Its pretty fascinating in itself.

I tried playing the first Risk of Rain for entirely one whole stream. I could not get into the gameplay but the soundtrack really stood out to me, and became one of my favorites. I haven't heard much from Risk of Rain 2, but this was absolutely awesome.

Having played both games and listend to the OSTs Chris earned having his name plasterd over their soundtracks.

Risk of Rain 2 has one of the more unique soundtracks. Generally you go through at least a few stages every time, and some stages have 2-3 music options while others have a dedicated track. And almost all tracks have to show you the "escalation", because on every map and in every run, enemies get stronger and spawn more. So every track tries to be somewhat long-ish, ascending and exploding until the player will likely starts the boss fight of the level (if he is not a slowpoke) and track needs to change. Plus the game has a strong sci-fi melancholy of you simultaneously being a local fauna murderer and a survivor trying to escape. Looking forward to more ROR from you Jesse, especially "Con lentitud poderosa" as probably most unique and signature track. Also tracks from Survivors of the Void DLC, like "They might as well all be dead" - you will have a blast with that guitar.

Definitely gotta listen to "Coalescence" from the first Risk of Rain, then react to "..con lentitud poderosa" from the second game because it's sort of a spiritual part 2, both incredible pieces!

Heyyyy it finally got through! I suggested this so long ago! I'm glad so many other requested it and you enjoyed it so much! I love this song, I actually heard it before I heard Purple Rain (plz don't judge me) but a co-worker played Purple Rain at work one day and I recognized the same Guitar Riffs (?) at 6:32 in Purple Rain as well, and immediately made me go ohhhhh I get it lol Also what's kind of funny is that this song is just a stage theme for stage 5 (?) where you've already spent time and gotten loot from 4 other stages and can either go onto the boss stage or go through another loop of 5 stages, so at this point things are actually very hectic, yet there is this super chill music playing in the background I didn't realize you were more open to techno-y/synth stuff and since you are I got several suggestions I may put in from some obscure space games I love that have killer soundtracks. If you don't mind me asking, what is going to happen if you ever decide to stop youtube? will all the requests be lost to the void or will you eventually stop taking more requests until the ones you have on your huge list are lessened? Either way I'll probably throw some more suggestions your way here soon!

This shit really got me to listen more of Chris's music. I even remember the day we got the patch to the game which introduced this particular song. I said outloud to my friends in discord that this ost is banging. If you want more of this good stuff, you should defo listen "They Might As Well Be Dead". Its pure bliss

The track "Con Lentitud Poderosa" is my favorite

I've never played either Risk of Rain, but my buddy got me hooked on the soundtracks while riding in his car. Chris Christodoulou is a monster (and apparently a literal Spartan which is badass). The best way to describe these soundtracks is something like "Space Metal" or "Pink Floyd in Space". Two of my personal favorite tracks from the series are "Moisture Deficit" and "Terra Pluviam".

Oh I was just WAITING for this. I wanted to donate to put Coalescence from the first Risk of Rain on the list but haven't had the money to do so yet because it absolutely needs to be heard, and this track right here would have been my second pick. I'd definitely recommend listening to the original Coalescence before the "sequel" track, "…con lentitud poderosa" to get a sense for the evolution of the theme. Both are absolutely incredible tracks.

Risk of Rain 2 is one of my personal favorite games ever, and this track is easily top 3 on the OST imo. Absolute BANGER!!

If you're interested, Christodoulou made a commentary track for the whole album (and the first game as well, I think). It's on his main RU-vid channel (Chris Christodoulou). It's pretty interesting, as most commentary tracks tend to be. Obviously there are 'spoilers' in terms of reacting for videos.
