i think the base roster characters are safe from being cut on launch and maybe even the workshop characters as well. i think what dan meant is that we might not be seeing ori or shovel knight make it in sadly.
sadly for you its only 10 character launch. 9 have already been revealed and the contest character will be the 10th and with that the last at-launch-character
It's been confirmed by Dan at Genesis 9 that every rival will be returning at some point including the new workshop characters. There will also be entirely new fighters on launch. Only characters not confirmed are Shovel Knight and Ori.
Hodan is definitely making it in on launch. He has a stage with his face on it, how could he not. Plus he's such an insanely strong design that fits in way better than all the the workshop 3. For them to remove every one of them just doesn't seem like a play Dan would do.
At 6:25 - you making the revelation as you’re recording the video that the pronunciation is probably just “Hammer” was really funny. Good decision leaving that in, gave me a chuckle
0:36 Honestly, I find this a HUGE plus, not only because I love the pixel style, but because it makes modding so much easier, and that draws in so many people, because who doesn't wish that they could think "Man, I wish I could beat the non-living daylight out of Sans undertale as Ronald McDonald's shadow form" AND THEN DO IT.
As cool a roster as this is, I don’t think we will be getting 16 characters. People may ask why but the answer is simple: it’s a lot of resources for a small indie company. Base rivals had a low roster count before the deluxe edition, only consisting of 6 characters. Seeing how there’s more resources being used now than ever with a new engine, new mechanics, and especially new 3D graphics, it’s safe to say that we may get a similar number of characters (I’m betting on at most 10).
I disgree... the amount of work they did even to the first trailer of rivals 2 kinda shows that they definitely have more resources to work with. So I don't think we should compare rival 1's start when it was just a team of 1 person... to a whole new studio. Even now... they have showcased 6 skeletons of characters (foresburn, zetter, clairen, wrastor, orcane, ranno) with another year and a half worth of time. Even if I have to lowball it... I'd say 12 at least. But obviously... you saw the vid. I think theres more.
I think this is a very nice roster you thought up. You have most of the iconic characters from base Rivals, and I do agree with the ones you left out. I really like the workshop characters you chose (fun fact: Hodan's face is seen in the gameplay trailer for Rivals 2, so he's already confirmed). And I really like the inclusion of the Dungeons of Aether characters, especially Hamir, he looks awesome. A shame Mollo had to be cut, he was my personal favorite of the workshop characters, hope he makes it in as DLC.
well even if Hodan's face is shown it doesn't mean he's confirmed. It's just part of the stage. That'd be like seeing a trailer for Smash, seeing Judd in the background of Moray Towers, and saying he's a confirmed character. I think Hodan will still have relevance in this game but I wouldn't consider him confirmed.
Imagine they just retconned Etalus to be a Penguin. They slide on their stomach, and you mention that it’s weird for him to be a heavy. Also, he’s my main, so I would be big sad if he doesn’t make it.
I think this selection is good but I have some problems with it. I think if they were to make a new game it would start out with more characters then we have now. That is not necessarily true but I feel it makes more sense. Also I don’t think they would get rid of Mollo since the guy who made him literally works for aether studios now. And Elliana has some story stuff from her trailer that never finished so I think she would stay. Etalus had some concept art that I saw but I suppose that doesn’t automatically qualify him into the game. If anyone gets removed I do think Etalus is the most likely
Ayala being part of the fire nation in the comics also means that Elliana may have won in destroying the Air Armada, so it would make sense to have that shown in Rivals 2.
@@SoftwareNeos You got right Kragg and Maypul. Orcane, Forsburn and Clairen are very likely since we have seen work in progress or leaks of them. You overstimated their capabilities to include new characters from Dungeons of Aether. You overstimated the popularity of Etalus, Elliana and Sylvanos. You ignored that Loxodont is central part of the lore and will become playable eventually. This video got 36% of the not anounced character right, it wasn't that bad.
Next video will be out in 2 days. But if anyone wants me to talk about any other Rivals content... just say what I'm the comments and I'll see what I can do
Hmmm I dunno. I feel like they're just gonna cut the workshop characters, SK, and Ori. Then add some other ones. I like the idea of them bringing on the playable characters from Dungeons of Aether. That would make a lot of sense since their character designs already exist and it might get more people to check out DoA
i feel that if the other workshop characters get in it would feel weird if mollo doesnt get in so i dont really think they would do that (also mollo is my main so if he doesnt get in i will be sad)
I actually completely agree with this, the only thing I’m unsure about are the dungeon characters, but I would love to see what kind of play style they bring to Rivals
I know that Sylvanos will be added at some point period, but it's still sad that I most likely not get to see my doggo in from the beginning. Either way, I'm excited to see the new characters!
I agree with the number, but when I heard cuts I saw it as soft announcing that the workshop characters from base game wouldn’t make it. I know hodans face was in the trailer but I’d see that more as world/lore building potentially for DLC
A tralier announcing Kragg just went up and in the trailer we can see a carving of the "wall runners" worshipping (at least that is what it looked like they were doing, I could be wrong) Sylvanos so he has e decent chance of coming back to the game
Great video! Having equal number of fighters for each element make a lot of sense! However I'm having a lot of trouble finding the clairen/forsburn footage you showed at 2:26 . Can you please tell me where I can find that?
While I agree that they would likely aim for the same amount of characters per element, I don’t think having the same amount of returning characters has to happen at all. Heck, I could absolutely see air’s only returning character be Wrastor.
Well, absa is pretty iconic for the series since she represents air in every spin off, so i would expect to see her also orcane will appear in fraymakers so it would be weird if they wouldnt include him and if they are going to continue sylvanos lore, he and maypul are likely to appear as well.
@@randomairbreathingman8927 really? I haven’t played any Rivals spin-offs, but I always found Wrastor way more iconic than Absa. Granted, I think Absa has a much more interesting design but she is honestly one of the few characters I genuinely forget about being in the game, so her acting as their mascot in spin-offs seems weird to me. Either way, I still think my idea stands. Just two returning air elements would still work for my position.
@@firstwaddledee9182 yup. In creatures of aether absa is the character that gives you a tutorial and you can choose her as your first partner (other choices being orcane, zetterburn, and maypul, which makes absa representative of air in that game) In the dating sim game she is one of the choices. i dont know if she is only air character in that game cos i never played it myself, but i know that if there are others, she is the most popular one.
Rip Elliana, she didn't get to destroy the Air Fleet. Oh, and rip Sylvanos and Etalus too. I think Absa is also pretty much confirmed. Because her stage is there in the trailers. Eventually they'll get to animate the incredibly long side Tilt and charged neutral special and then we'll have Absa in. Also Kragg got confirmed a few hours ago, so hooray.
I don't think the dungeons of aether characters will make it, maybe fleet as she is the actual main character, but the rest don't feel like they were designed with a moveset in mind which is how Dan designs characters, first you come up with an interesting moveset with gimmicks and after that you create a character design that fits with those attacks/gimmicks.
I would've agreed with your reasonings for etalus but he's pretty much confirmed. The aether studios twitter did an artist spotlight and showed off etalus concept art for his 3D model.
Some people were talking about that before. And I actually really wouldn't mind that happening. I always felt like he needed something and that ice armor IS IT. My only thing is who'd he'd replace. Cause technically ranno and orcane were confirmed in screen shots and Hodans face is on one of the stages. So unless slade isn't here... idk. But its pretty exciting
as a sylvanos main I'd miss my plant doggo, but hopefully dlc.... but ya it's understandable why they wouldn't make it back with all the grass and vines
As things stand as of posting: Rivals 2 is on Kickstarter, funded, with stretch goals still ongoing. Based on stated stretch goals, we're at least getting a launch roster of 8, with a potential max launch roster of 10 if 1M is reached (as of post, it's at 573k). Fully revealed characters line up with the overall prediction: Zetterburn, Ranno, Wrastor, Fleet, Kraag, and Maypul - the initial six without stretch goals taken into account. I've heard secondhand that elements are not going to be evenly supported this time around, so equal representation is not guaranteed. Unclear on the claims of Clairien and Forsburn being allegedly confirmed.
I love elliana and sylvanos, but the way they function in rivals 1 makes me think that they would need major changes to fit into a game with ledges, and are definitely going to be left out for a while.
Elliana is my favorite character I highly doubt she would make it in anyway due to her play style and kit highly doubt ori and shovel knight would even appear definitely the Dungeons characters might appear I doubt the workshop characters besides hodan just praying we get elliana so there’s a 3d model of her and someone ports it to gmod and we don’t get twitch thot mouse
Worth noting with new info, EVERYONE WILL RETURN (minus Ori/SK) AT ONE POINT! Also we've dealt with lopsided rosters since the games release (No eta/absa in beta so we had 2 fire, 2 earth and only 1 air and 1 water), when Clairen/Ranno got released we had holes to fill in where sylv/Elli eventually came in. Its not like its foreign territory
For any new people watching I got a question. You guys want me to rank every character in rivals of aether? Not really a tier list... moreso on who I like more than others.
Every rival, except Ori and Shovel + dungeons quartet + brand new quartet. I think this is the plan. The question is who is gonne be on the game on the launch.
I think your guesses are pretty good, but I think we'll probably get Sylvanos instead of Olympia considering we already have a stage heavily themed after him; I also think that while I could see Hodan replacing Etalus, I'm pretty sure Etalus has a slightly better chance considering 1: he was one of the original 8, and 2: he's named after one of the employees at Aether Studios. Finally, I think Loxodont sort of disproves your Dungeons of Aether idea, and I'm pretty sure Fleet is going to be that game's only representation.
What I am looking forward is to the crossover characters like Ori and Shovel Knight, if they add mor ethe ywould add two since they are in the middle and the characters always look to the side and not the front, so who would be added? Also, if mollo isn't on he game I am quitting life, please let ma boy be in the game, you can take forsburn with you
I'd personally like to see them explore the other elements more, we saw that there's other groups for things like Smoke, which I think would be really cool to see represented.
I honestly dont like how this is just ultimate but other characters. Why ledges? Why shields? Why grabs? The main appeal to roa 1 was that it wasnt just smash again
My only real disagreement is Pomme over Elliana, Pomme is comparatively a disconnected character and quite literally no character plays like Elliana, plus she's really popular with fans, she seems like a no-brainer
I feel like everyone but shovel and ori would stay luke why would you get rid of charicters you don't have to on such a small roster also if they do get rid of any aether lore charicters I really hope there early dlc and just couldn't be finished in time for main launch
Your roster cuts every single villain/antagonistic character from the base roster, and doesn't add any new ones. For that reason alone I don't think it's very realistic. Fleet would be cool, but I don't think the other main characters from that game should make it in. Preferably the villain from that game makes it in.
"The best floaty in probably platform fighter history that is Pomme" is just a very odd comment in my opinion especially when the main floatiness of the character is based off Peach. She's been in a very odd place in RoA since she's been put in and nothing about her ability to float has been really much of the character's idenity except when she could do stall shenanigans and now after the most recent patches it seems like they don't even know what they're doing with her in RoA by nerfing her only effective tools and not giving anything as compensation.
Over the months I've grown to really like this character. I used to believe she was bland... but using the music to juke and edge guard people... getting a second recovery when inside of it and just getting better shot her up to best floaty. She might be based off peach... but peach pretty much has little of the options she has. The only other floaty I could see to take that spot is ezzie (from rushdown revolt) ... And most other floaty from other gsmes I find bland
@Software Neos That might make her most interesting floaty in your opinion, but she's not even close to "best" when Peach in Melee and Ultimate have been high tier and won tournaments. Jigglypuff in Melee is an abomination and I hate her, but is undoubtedly good and much better than Pomme. Pomme has had no great results and feels like the worst character in RoA at the moment and not that interesting either in my opinion. Edit: Melee Samus is also a much more interesting floaty than Pomme as well. Also, my main point, and probably why most people don't see or want the amount of workshop characters as you're saying is I don't think most people find them very interesting outside of the only one you excluded in Mollo. Although I think Olympia is someone who could be more easily tweaked to fit into RoA2 and it's shield, grab, and ledge mechanics and be a decent fundamentals character more than Hodan and Pomme.
@@Kade503 When people say "best" its always different For WHY they are the best. So already we started on the wrong foot. So saying just because she doesn't have the results doesn't really mean much when the definition of the best to someone is always different. Can I say that someone can't call Songebob the BEST DESIGNED platform fighter character just because theres not enough representation that fox does across the games? No. Thats silly. Thats just an opinion. But its not fact. And the reason why always varies I honestly don't see what makes Samus more interesting than even melee puff. So maybe you can tell me why. Cause I don't see it. I dont even really WANT most of the dlc characters. My reason for their inclusion is not because I want them. But simply because they have better reasons to stay compared to others. Such as the elemental quota, lore or even if they are already shown in game like Hodan I do agree that these characters probably could've been a lot better. I actually would like some changes of them to make them fit rivals 2... Also... most people like olympia because her buttons are good and her special is great... not really because she's THAT interesting. And that's coming from a person that plays her. I don't think people are hoping she comes back because they can make her more interesting. People just like her design and want to dunk on people.
@Software Neos I like Olympia too and play her as well, but for her it just seems like people either love her or hate her so I personally would want her, but understand some don't. I hate Melee Jigglypuff simply because her ability to stall and many other factors I don't want to get into. Samus' design is interesting in Melee since she is both floaty and heavy at the same time. She has a more interesting recovery than Pomme with her bombs, tether, and other things. Honestly my biggest gripe about Pomme is the thing that makes her the most unique from the cast, her float, isn't even that great outside recovery. Where as in Melee Peach's float opens up a ton of combos/follow ups/approaches otherwise impossible thanks to float canceling and ground/hyper floats. Peach also has much more options than Pomme, so I don't know why you think she doesn't. Pomme's aerials just don't seem to really benefit that much from float or at the very least I have never seen someone do so even with the field up and the ability to float in any direction. So, I just think her design is not that good or cohesive at all and essentially the majority of floaties have movesets that make much more sense in my opinion. Hodan and his mechanics just never appealed to me personally.
@@Kade503 Honestly Andrew. Yeah I kinda agree. Maybe if pommes B music notes did something different in the field... like stay in it to create spacing or maybe even if it acted like cupcake (a workshop character) where you can chain aerials easier to one another when hit. So maybe I should look into melee peach more. As with Hodan... yeah... most of his moves and mechanical combos don't feel as..... DESIGNED WELL??? Most of the steam is only used to empower the smash attacks and UP B. Thats MOST of his gimmick and when he abuses them he can't really get punished ESPECIALLY with no shield. I might make a video in the future because over the weeks A LOT of people actually DONT LIKE the dlc characters... and honestly talking to you kinda just sealed the deal that I should.
there's 18 characters confirmed at this point. the rivals 1 cast minus ori and shovel knight, plus Fleet, plus the workshop contest. Dan said the workshop contest wont be available on launch.
