“It’s all about the last mile”
Mbulawa Mugabe (UNAIDS, South Africa) introduces the topic of pandemics on a global scale, using HIV as an example of why pandemics cannot be ended without ending inequalities. He explains that prevention of HIV infection is based on differentiated epidemiological surveillance and stresses the importance of combining evidence-based public health policies with participatory approaches to develop interventions that reach affected communities.
The Robert Koch Colloquium is an annual interdisciplinary lecture series, each year focusing on one specific innovative public health topic, such as Digital Epidemiology (2017), Human Microbiome Research (2018), Burden of Disease (2019) Public Health Surveillance (2021) or Climate Change and Public Health (2022).
The theme of this year's Robert Koch Colloquium are Social Inequities in Health. Lectures are held in English.
