Great fabulous TV silver screen actor! Brillant stunt performer. Motivates people with low esteem! Makes the weak strong! Takes fear away from those who fear! Mr. Conrad you are the Greatest! The American Hero!
Robert Conrad had it all going on... he had charisma to spare, and it comes across in this interview. Most importantly, he had a graciousness lacking in a lot of today's celebrities. As he says in the interview, he was never motivated by money. Clearly, he was doing what he loved and that love comes across in The Wild Wild West, a TV show that is still, in many respects, ahead of its time.
What a time to be a kid in the 1960s with shows like (my 2 favorites) Wild Wild West, Mission Impossible, and also “I Spy”, first 2 seasons of “The Man From Uncle” and “It takes a Thief”. They don’t make espionage shows like that any more.
I agree. It was the best time to grow up. I was born in 1957, so I was just the right age to see all of the great TV series of the 1960s, and The Wild, Wild West was my favorite.
I met Robert Conrad and his sons in the late 80's. A couple of buddies and I came home right after finishing Basic Training in The Army and went out for the night in Downtown Dallas. He was the Grande Marshal for the parade that year. He ended up buying us green, young soldiers drinks for quit a while that night. He was larger than life!!! He impacted me as a youngster in Wild Wild West and I had the great pleasure of meeting a childhood hero that night. A true legend! God bless you Robert.
What an incredible gentleman to be so respectful of Ross, but seriously, Robert, you were the show! As a kid, you could not pull me away from the TV set when Wild Wild West was on. You were the coolest without trying to be cool, better than James Bond, down to earth and still a phenomenal bad ass.
Unfortunately I was very young for the wild wild west series but Robert Conrad is and always be a heart throb of mine I so enjoy seeing the series now. Rest in peace Mr. Conrad.
Friday nights CBS ! Victor Buono, Michael Dunn, as Miguelito Loveless , as villains. What a cast, and brilliant writers. The show soundtrack was also brilliant.
Classy responses to belligerent, tasteless questions. "The fight sequences were a little hyper speed.... unless you had 12 cups of coffee"... WTF does that even mean? Bob did his own difficult stunts and was often injured. Miss you, James West. You were an inspiration.
I never knew he was such a personable guy. For years I thought he was a jerk.. but he wasn’t. God rest his soul.. I’m sixty five years old.. The Wild Wild West has always been one of my all time favorite shows. Always will be. I own all seasons on dvd. It’s only since he passed that I’ve watched interviews with him and I’m glad I have. My opinion of him as a person has completely changed. What a nice man. 👍. R.I.P. Robert Conrad..
After his recent passing, RU-vid recommended this and other interviews. Loved Wild West as a kid watching re-runs. I'm impressed with his interviews. Love he gave total respect to Ross Martin. Both cool guys. RIP Mr. James West and Pappy Boyington. Another interview asked if you could get one Celeb autograph. His answer his mother.
Robert Conrad possessed a unique combination of traits and character so rarely seen today in actors or celebrities. He surely was a 100% of a man: handsome, talented, tough, courageous and yet humble and sincere, intelligent, fair, generous, and with a great sense of humor. A very classy and decent guy! The only other Hollywood personality I can think of is Clint Eastwood.
Martin was over the top. Thanks for the memories Mr. Conrad. Rest in peace. I should say I Iiked Martin’s comedic input. They were a team and when he was replaced it was not the same. ''He was a credit to this world, and if more people were like Ross Martin, it would be a better place to live in.'' Robert Conrad
He is the best and amazing actor !! That’s my favorite his awesome tv of the Wild Wild ! . Very Honorable and respectful him ... sending my prayers for his family and friends. God Bless RIP R.C
People watched the shows because they liked Robert Conrad and he was a great actor. His personality fit perfectly in military and law enforcement shows. He would have been my second pick to head Hawaii 5-0 if they hadn’t found the great Jack Lord.
@@judyoger oh my, Malibu.... that place is expensive, I know he loved Malibu as much as Johnny Carson did. He must have saved his money well to still be able to afford that when his earnings were all 20 to 50 years ago. I would be interested to know where he was living to see if it was sea-side or inland.
The interviewer is misquoting Ross from his appearance on 'The Tonight Show'; when Johnny asked him if he did his own stunts, Ross replied, "No, I do my own acting." - which was meant to be a playful dig at Bob. However, Ross did manage to get in on the stunts from time to time, which once resulted in his leg getting broken during the climax of season 4's "The Night of the Avaricious Actuary".
Both these guys were awesome I I record these reruns every week and continue to watch them this is just right up my alley I want to say thank you to both those men they did a great job I hear that they're both have died and that makes me sad
That's graceful of Conrad not to take issue with Ross Martin's comment that he did the acting and Conrad did the stunts. Those two displayed real screen chemistry, but there were times when I thought Martin's acting was a little over-the-top, and I also think Conrad had some fine moments as a dramatic actor in the series, too. They made a good team.
Gall ery Conrad hung with the stunt men and guess it stung Martins ego some for that remark but Conrad respected the man to give a nice response to that remark .
@@thebobsmith1444 Wish I had possession of my DVDS of Wild Wild West but only a few left on U tube. They didnt say Conrads name at the Oscar obituary. Sad .
Robert Conrad was a really good actor, I think because he was so good looking both facially and physically you tend to forget that he was really good. He was stunning though. There have only been a few faces over the years that I think god you’re beautiful looking and can’t take my eyes off them, but he was one of them in his younger days.
Anita Hanson I remember in a Columbo episode where his top half is bare as I think he is working out or in the pool or something as the character is very much into keeping fit as he was himself, and he walked across the screen like a bronzed God. He wasn’t a tall man either but he didn’t need to be. So good looking.
He was perfect in every way. Your right that he didn't need to be tall. He sad he was 5'8" and so that's not short. He was both handsome and cute in a boyish way with those dimples. He could charm any woman. He sure charmed me!!
It's impossible to count the number of times my nephew and I were running around jumping on and of my dad's truck and climbing trees pretending to be Jim West and Artemus Gordon. "The Wild, Wild West" was an inextricable part of my childhood, and Robert Conrad was one of my first childhood action hero actors!
Filled prescriptions at our pharmacy in Arnold Calif for his wife in the late 80s. He had a home in Mt. Reba Bear Valley. Central Sierras. Calaveras county. Would fly up in his plane from Santa Monica condo when he could. Tough guy. From south side Chicago. Pretty short but big wide shoulders. He pumped iron. Got into a lot of fights at the bar in Bear Valley.
Conrad did his own stunts and fight scenes which was wild since he was martial arts, jumps and doing kicks without doubles or wires As a kid and adult , Conrad was Boss and Martin was always fun to see since he would pop up in the middle of the episode in some get upto save West .
@@dabneyoffermein595 He was like larry hagman who always was drinking champagne through out the day but was never overcome by it, he had a slight buzz on all the time but it didn't interfere with his top of the line acting. I am not condoning it, but that is how they wanted to live, it really came back to bite conrad in the backside with his dui nightmare.
@@johnryan3160 -- oh, a functional alcoholic. Gotcha. Conrad even apologized to Ross for drinking so much while working. How could the people he was on-screen with even stand next to him sometimes knowing he smelled like a distillery? Questions that only those who stood there can answer, unfortunately, Ross is dead and can't tell us interesting stories. With death comes silence.
@@evdallas123 And what's your point ? Do you feel like a champ because 35 people ageee with you ? just like I stated before Robert Conrad & Clint Eastwood both great actors I am not comparing them to one another there's no need to both are hollywood legends well I hope you feel better since 35 people agree with you - keep pushing & maybe you will get 100 or more people to agree with you then you could feel like a 🌟 & on top on the 🌎 have a enjoyable Monday February 23, 2020 ok take care
The most awesome actor did his own stunts. Learned Karate was a black belt, 5 years of boxing during the series Hawaiian Eye. Wild Wild West another incredible acting series.
The interviewer is very lucky to catch Conrad on a good day To first allude he's not an actor and then to accused the fight scenes were sped up Long Live James West Rest In Peace Robert Conrad
In 6th grade (65) we were told to do something with plants. My school mate and I wrote a story about my plant being Jim West and my friends plant was Arty. Just for fun ! Our teacher Mr. Mc Mann herd about it and made us read it to the class. We got A's for our grade and Yes our plants defeated Miguelito Loveless :) My idol at the time ! RIP for all !
Between Conrad - and JAMES STACY - I don't BRUCE LANSBURY had many options left of what actor could play his character JIM WEST. STACY had the looks - but I don't think he wanted the role ,due to all the stunts involved. One stunt that went wrong, caused Conrad to land on his head - causing him to be rushed to the hospital .He did all those stunts himself - no stand ins.
Loved the shows he did. I used to pull out a loose tooth every Fri. night when WWW was on. REALLY ! Does anyone have THE HAWIIAN EYE? THANKS FOR THE WWW.
To me he will always be Jesse Hawks. Wild, Wild West was a bit before my time, and sadly the classics channel doesnt play Wild, Wild West so I've never seen it. I still to this day love his show High Mountain Rangers, and have been looking for it for years on DVD
