Brig. General Robin Olds was an American fighter pilot and general officer in the U.S. Air Force. He was a "Triple Ace", with a combined total of 16 victories in World War II and the Vietnam War. The son of Army Air Forces Major General Robert Olds, educated at West Point, and the product of an upbringing in the early years of the U.S. Army Air Corps, Olds epitomized the youthful World War II fighter pilot. He remained in the service as it became the United States Air Force, despite often being at odds with its leadership, and was one of its pioneer jet pilots. Rising to the command of two fighter wings, Olds is regarded among aviation historians, and his peers, as the best wing commander of the Vietnam War, for both his air-fighting skills, and his reputation as a combat leader. Robin Olds’ daughter, Christina, who co-authored his biography “Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds”, also co-wrote and narrated this biopic, “Robin Olds: All American”. In it, she shares her personal insights and memories of life with one of the most legendary and respected figures in the history of the United States Air Force. Much of the video is in General Olds’ own words, gleaned from some of his last recorded extended narratives. The video was produced by The Fagen Fighters World War II Museum of Granite Falls, Minnesota, in conjunction with Sleeping Dog Productions. Featured prominently in the video is “Scat III”, one of the few remaining Lockheed P-38 Lightenings left in the world, which has been meticulously restored to flying condition by The Museum. It is painted in the exact same scheme as the P-38 in which Robin Olds scored 5 of his aerial victories in the European Theater of World War II. Buy it at aviationautogra...

There really needs to be a movie made of this man's courageous life. He is the absolute embodiment of what it means to be a service member.

Already read it. With all the Top Gun movie talk going around right now, this would have been a much better movie character. He is real. He was a tremendous leader. His career spanned everything from piston engine fighters to F-4s.

Football star. WW2 ace. Vietnam hero. Flyer. Just these are enough to tell his story on the big screen and what a visually epic adventure that movie would be. Some life stories are meant to be told and this man's time on earth is an inspiration.

A man's man, a warrior, a legend, and the template for a no bullshit leader. I would've followed that man anywhere. There will never be another man like Robin Olds, and we are the poorer for it. Men like him we will never see the like of again, and may God help us all.

VERY long story short; My father ended up in a base bar in San Antonio with Robin Olds and some other famous astronauts and fliers due to a court case where he was an expert witness and they were character witnesses. He was invited with all of them to the O Club for after court celebrations. My dad never drank alcohol so when the drinks were ordered he said "Diet Coke" to which Olds said "BS Doc, you're having a beer with us". A beer was ordered and he drank it. He told me "If Robin Olds says you're drinking a beer with him, you're drinking a beer with him no matter what"!lol!

My first hero was Chuck Yeager read his autobiography then I watch AIR ACES then listened to his daughter speak for over a hr he is definitely. One of my favorites. Next to Eddie Rickenbacker Manfried von Richthofen the Father of air combat what his principles are still used to this day look them up. Olds getting in a F4 and meet Chappie above the school they did a mock dog fight could you imagine seeing that and the inspiration you give your kids. Those were shoes no one could fill

I remember Brigadier General Robin Olds as the guy who sang the “Balls of O'Leary” song it was so “Hilarious” I could not stop laughing .. I asked him to sing it again .. Robin Olds said I’d have to sing it too .. which I did .. Robin Olds said now your a member of the “Wolf Pack.” I also met “Honored” great grandson of Major General George S. Patton .. “Benjamin Patton” along with his father the “Very Honored” Major General “George Smith Patton IV.” “Benjamin Patton” was on Oahu to visit Tripler Army Hospital for research for his book on “PTSD.” I had the chance to tell them both about my favorite statement in the movie “Patton” in which WW2 Major General Patton defeats the “Desert Fox” .. “Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! Rommel I read your F’ .. ing book.” We all laughed.

How old is Robin hear? He looks and sounds great and with his history I shouldn't be surprised. My uncle few the Hawker Hurricane for the CRAF and was shot down taken prisoner with major wounds towards the end of the war, Frank passed away last year at the age of 95. Respect to all the men that went off to war and that do go off to war.

@@daf62757 thank you very much and if you check him out he tells a couple of his experiences (he didn't talk about the war at all until his final years. One story a young German kid was flying over the UK airfield and Frank was called down to take him out but the pilot flew straight and that was odd, Frank flew up besie him wing tip to wing tip. Frank made eye contact and said the pilot was a kid 17-18 and looked scared shitless, Frank gave this kid his life and let him go. Frank got into shite over this from his guys but Frank said look the war is almost over and he has atleast a mother back home worried sick for him. “I only did what you told me to do.” Sounds vaguely familiar, given 20th Century German military expositories from Nuremberg: Any of the high ranking Nazi Officers: “I was not a Nazi, but I only followed my orders.” Robin Olds must not have known of this historical conundrum.

It is sad that the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum has sealed Robin's service ribbons away in the archive, never to be seen again. Perhaps due to the PC police? The museum apologizes for dropping nuclear bombs on Japan, that saved countless lives Japanese and American either. Just saying.

@christinaolds7501
@christinaolds7501 3 года назад
My dad had his mustache for only part of a year during his Vietnam duty. He started growing it in January 1967 after the BOLO mission and then had to shave it off in October 1967, as ordered by the CSAF, before assuming his role as Commandant of the U.S. Air Force Academy. That mustache remains iconic and has its own Wikipedia page: "Mustache March"!
