People want a 1,000lb bike with worse fuel economy than a Corolla, so lets hit pause around 1970 - Harley Davidson (If they kept making the same bike everyone wanted I could respect that. But it is a fake 'looks old' bike. About like hot gluing paper hears to your hat and calling yourself steampunk)
At 10 I had saved up all my money and bought a 1977 XR 75 just like like that one. Paid 300 for it in all one dollar bills. I was so proud of that bike and looking back so thank for the awesome parents I had that made appreciate what hard work can get you. That bike brought me years of trouble free good times and memories. Dad taught me how to change the oil and clean the air filter and that started me in working on cars and any thing with a engine.
Thanks man. Did not know about this. Looking at pictuers I can not tell the difference. Now I'm unsure about what fastener gripping surface geometry different screws I've encountered have been. How many times have I mistakenly attributed fastener head failure to bad quality when in fact there has quite likely been a mismatch between the spinny nail and the cross chisel.
Interesting. I look at how much trouble I got into with 4 wheel vehicles, and swore off anything with 2 wheels, saying "I'll either end up dead or in jail". Right now I drive a sprinter van, because I'm afraid any more power to weight radio would get me in trouble....
Had several old plastic handled screwdrivers I got at garage sales etc. some had Honda, Yamaha, or Kawasaki on handle. I thought they were wore out cause they didn’t fit standard Philips head screws very well, a friend told me they’re for import bikes I didn’t know. I gave them to him he was always working on Japanese bikes👍
Impact screwdrivers are a lifesaver. underappreciated tool. if you ever think you are gonna strip a screw even with the correct driver this will almost always do the trick
Peter Fonda is the reason I became a motorcyclist. I saw Easy Rider and I bought a motorcycle the next day, and I rode it all the way from LA to San Francisco. Nicolas Cage
I had a later XR125 about 25 years back. It was a really fun toy. I got it as a "Ministry of Transport" (MOT) road worthiness test failure for 50 GBP. I fixed the issues in an afternoon, retested it the following day, fitted it with reasonabley sticky road tyres and hooned about on the thing for about 6 months. Then a mate offered an attention grabbing amount of cash for it, and I decided I needed the money more than I needed a 3rd motorbike....... I then promptly used the money to buy ANOTHER 3rd motorbike. :D Ahh, fun times. :D
Those inscrutable orientals! Nice to see the Renault doing a cameo. Thanks Jimbo. Fyi, I used Phillips for years on the Nippon stuff, not much stripping.
Does the sprocket side have regular 10 or 8mm bolts for the cover? 40 years ago, and I remember those screws but I also remember using a socket to get to the points
