I happened onto some Collins Kids RU-vid videos by accident a few years ago and was astonished that they had not become big stars in the 50's. Lorrie was a great singer and Larry's playing and dance moves were wonderful. I've tried with little success to get others interested in them. It's really a shame and tragedy that they weren't as big as they should have been, given their talent
I am so glad I got to see Larry and Lorrie perform live here in the UK in 1993, at the Hemsby Rock'n'Roll Weekender, Norfolk. They were both very talented performers, such a sad loss.
Actually they moved from Sapulpa, OK to California...not from Tulsa, but close. Glad that we have RU-vid to see their fantastic performances as young kids!
They got famous regionally and were on TV quite a bit. Lorrie even dated Ricky Nelson which was a big deal in the 50s. But they mostly played on the country music circuit and missed out on reaching a lot of potential fans in New York and other places up north. Wanda Jackson and a lot of other rockabilly musicians had similar problems, granted Fujiyama Mama made Wanda a bigger star than Elvis in Japan. Touring the US is hard and expensive, especially in those days. Guys like Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran are in large part remembered as well as they are now because they went to England where touring was easier.
