This time I am Preparing a Rockler Turntable Bearing for use as my Dome Bearing. I'll disassemble the bearing and polish the Races to smooth out it's action. The Rockler Bearing is used by many Astromech Builders on their R2D2 Builds as well as other Astromechs.

Great video! My son and I are just starting on our R2-D2 build, and we had some questions about the best way to prep the bearing. Thank You for these videos!

I'm happy you found something useful! I may revisit the rockler in the future and replace the balls with Delrin/Acetal balls, but at this point it is quiet enough for me.

This is probably the perfect 2020 project! I didn't spend a ton of time on mine but I'm pretty happy with the results.

I'm planning on using this type of bearing to build a giant wall hourglass. In your video when you drill through the aluminum, is it because this bearing can only be screwed to one surface and you needed to screw it both ways (like a normal steel lazy susan)? I don't have the item in hand so I'm trying to figure out. Is it that you replace the rubber feet with holes? Cheers

Yes Renauld... many of the Factory Holes are not through-holes and I needed fasteners to pass through them for my purpose. Thanks for watching.

What size bearings are they? I’m looking to clean mine out and run acetal plastic ball bearings.

Hey Collin. I assume you are asking about the ball size. If you have not already answered your own question these have 8mm/0.313" balls. I tried Delrin but switched back to steel as I felt they worked better For Me. The steel ran sooth and fast but the Delrin were noticeably quieter. I wish I A/B tested them on camera for everyone and I may do so in the future.

How many kg. can load above Rockler bearing?

Beso... this bearing is rated at 160Kg/330lb capacity. www.rockler.com/lazy-susan-heavy-duty-swivel

They don't give these bearings away - sad that it was necessary to correct their machining sloppiness

William, you are so right! This one was pretty bad. However, if you were to price out a quality industrial bearing of this size you may find that these are quite reasonably priced even with the flaws LOL. Just assume that you will need to spend an evening cleaning it up and add the cost of your time to the cost of the Rockler. Thanks for the Comment!
