This is the best Rolland Garros tennis in years. Stan involved in 2 of the best matches. There were others as well, but for quality tennis, his two were the best. Sad for Tsitsipas. Roger looks awsome, and in battling mood. He is here to win it out. I fancy him against Rafa, especially as he has the option to stand back on returns and hit forehand returns.
@mizofan

but Rafa seems to be in peak form and will be desperate to win this title, or he will surely doubt he can ever match Federer's main records.

@@nicktrousers Ya, Stan is Awesome. For me, Federer is the clear favourite for Wimbledon. Every year, bar 2008, that Federer has made it this far in the French, he has won Wimbledon. I think that is the main reason he played the French this year, to keep him match sharp. Federer is playing much better in 2019 than in 2018.

Yes, he started to realise ever more over the years that he has to be even more aggressive than he was in his best years 2004-2009. E.g. Standing closer to the baseline, return on the backhand side more often with topspin than slice. In 2017 he executed that perfectly.

If you mean because Andy Murray isn’t there now I might agree that it’s nearing the end. But in the 80-year history of professional tennis, this is basically the Golden Era. The 1930’s ere also the Golden Era, with Bill Tilden, Don Budge, Ellsworth Vines, Fred Perry, Jack Crawford, Henri Cochet, Rene Lacoste and Jean Borotra. Women’s tennis is efinitely down right now. Fifteen, twenty years ago, it was awesome, with Venus and Serena, Hingis, Clijsters, Davenport, Capriati, Pierce, Mauresmo, Graf, Seles, etc.

@@swalterstennis The Golden era of mens tennis was from 2008-2016. The big three are way past their prime (especially Federer) and they don't come close to how they played in 2008-16. I agree. Women’s tennis is at the lowest level in 40 years. Its rock bottom. It’s definitely on the rise. It can’t go any lower. Men’s tennis has THE GREATEST PLAYERS EVER all #1, #2, and #3 right now. Men’s tennis will suck in 5 years. There’s no one who will be all time greats coming up.

@etkaiser
@etkaiser 5 лет назад
Yeah, two of 18 has to be one of the worst break point conversion percentages in his career (or in most players' careers). I couldn't watch the match live but I was watching the score, and in the first two sets Federer was zero for seven on break points converted. I thought it might be a match similar to his 2008 Wimbledon final against Nadal where it was really tight but Federer converted, what, one of 13 break points and won his two sets in tiebreaks. Glad he scraped through but he'll have to do better than that against Nadal to have a chance. Nadal's serve isn't as powerful was Wawrinka's but he does have the lefty serve wide to Federer's backhand in the ad court, which isn't as effective as it used to be but should still give Federer some trouble, especially on clay where the spin has more of an impact. It'll be a really interesting match to see: Federer has won their last five straight, but those were all on hardcourts, and Federer has never won more than one set per match against Nadal at Roland-Garros.
