To imagine that someone sat down and wrote this song is truly incredible. There is so much going on in this song, and the fact that is has been tied together so well, is a testament to the genius of Roger Hodgson. In the 70s, I had all of Supertramp's albums as a teenager and saw them several times in concert. An incredibly talented group of musicians. Back when music was real, instruments were real, and live music was real. I miss those days.
I saw Supertramp a few times also, and for me they were perfection. I was there when they ended their final tour as Supertramp, in Montreal. Two nights in a row and I was there both times. At end of the last song, the group leaves the stage and the video takes over and the lights in the arena come on, and all the 20 some thousands are still standing in their seats, even after the music stopped. It was like that both nights, after about 2 hours and a half without interruption. You don’t see that theses days, because nobody knows how make music. Except old groups that are still around,or come back for another final tour. Thanks for the memories.
10yo me in my bed with headphones. My first real HIGH came from Supertramp and the "Fools Overture". When music was music. So thankful to have grown up when I did. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!
Saw them in Coventry in 74 aged 21 and was totally mesmerised. Now 70 and ask Alexa to play the whole repertoire time and time again. What a band! I love Soul, blues, folk, and opera, but these guys are simply the best.
@@YouRich92 I don't know at what level of ability you'd grade a sax player as Good, Very good or even Excellent - as opposed to, "Quite good", but I've been playing sax since the age of 14 (that's 55 years) and rate him as excellent. If you're a sax player and that's your professional opinion then I'd very much like to know who you rate above the grade of Quite good. Are you referring to the alto or soprano solo's, or both perhaps? As for the sound balance. I think the sound engineer knows exactly what he's doing and the sax player certainly knows how to implement the tonal demands and volume through his bell mic.
Saw the full band do Crime of the Century in the 70's. Also saw Roger sing "Give a Little Bit" at a friends wedding 10 years later. Moments I will NEVER forget.
This makes me cry every time. Thinking of my mother in Heaven and my childhood when everything was so Nice and easy. Love this forever❤ One of the greatest Songs ever❤️
Very lucky to have seen Roger and his band live here in Sydney 🇦🇺 his songwriting and talent with piano, keyboard, guitar and of course vocals is amazing. Thank you Roger.
Grande Roger , for ever.
Have only recently found this little Jem amoungst stones It came up randomly on a "Tube Playlist" and I was in quite a dark place When I heard the intro it just sent shivers down my spine and then the "Grand Finale" Wow it transpired me to a different dimensions throughout the full 10min Found it very inspiring on a spiritual level It is "Truly a Masterpiece That Will Be On Repeat Many Many Times Throughout My Existence Love Peace and Unity My fellow Old Skoolers" 💚🕉
In my younger days my favourite Canadian journalistic show was W5. It’s opening theme was “Fool’s Overture.” I still get goosebumps when I hear the chorus.
Saw the whole Bunch in Hamburg (best gig), the "Famous last words Tour" in Nice, and Roger 4 or 5 years ago in Port Adriano, Mallorca. But my best Supertramp experience was skiing down the Dolomites (Italy) in powder snow listening to "Fool's Overture" on my Walkman...
May god Bless Roger and His Friends for These timeless and everlasting Songs. Your music means a lot to me and makes me Happy. Thank you so much. Long May you live.

When I was young.. No pun intended I was a soldier in south Africa. Scared as most young guys This song was a hit. I am 64 now. How good is life now. Don't worry kids about the middle east. Nothing changes.

İlk kez dinlediğim 1977 yılından bu yana kaç kez dinlemişimdir bilemiyorum ama her dinleyişimde, özellikle de girişteki o muhteşem piyano tınılarıyla yücelen yalnızlığımın saksafonla ruhuma nakşedildiğini duyumsarken, Roger Hodgson'ın sözleriyle de anlaşılamamanın dayanılmaz boşluğunda hiçbir yere tutunamadan savrulup gidişimin sarhoşluğu yaşarım hep...
The Churchill speech has for memory been used since the release of Even in The Quietest Moments and during the original Supertramp tours and more recently in Roger Hodgson’s tours. It is part of the song, and agree it would have been cut due to local requirements. I don’t believe it would be due to a time restriction. Cheers.
Supertramp has such a moving capacity to stir your soul and brings out feelings that have buried for the longest time. Underrated Band but the milliions that are your greatest fans still listen 40 years on and will continue to do so till the day they die. What a talent you have Roger and the band outstanding. Real Music.
