Rolling the Dice: Should Religions Like Jehovah's Witnesses Modernize? 

Excellent video. When I hear you list the names of very informed JWs- Ray Franz, James Penton, Carl Jonsson, etc., who wrote to WT about false doctrines, and WT disfellowshipped them for doing so, it reminds me of what GB member Geoffrey Jackson stated at the ARC hearings, which is a complete lie: _"Our primary allegiance is to Jehovah God. The Governing Body realizes that if we were some direction that is not in harmony with God's word, all of Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide who have the Bible would notice that, and they would see that it is wrong direction."_ If that's true, why does WT disregard JWs who point out the wrong direction, censures them, tells them to not talk about their concerns to others, and finally disfellowships them because they don't simply comply with the wrong direction?

Nice analysis of what's happening among LDS and JW members! Thank you for including our small group and channel in your coverage. Your explanation of my history and current work is accurate, and you are correct in suggesting that we don't think of ourselves as splinter group. We have left all false religion and reject any form of worship which requires us to ignore Bible evidence and accept fictional interpretations like 1914, the other sheep, or a fiery place where bad people are tortured for all eternity. I appreciate your calm and logical approach very much. It is easy to listen to.

Great video! I love hearing your take on current JW developments. I really wonder how many current members are seriously questioning these new directions. Do they simply go along with the GB, as I believe many have for many years, while internally believing that they "don't have it quite right", but the religion is still the "truth"? I believe that most will see it as Jehovah "fixing" what the GB got wrong before. 🙄 Anyway, great video! I love how you get me thinking about things!

You nailed so many things, it was awesome! I visited Idaho and the extremism in organized Christian religions was way over the top. I didn’t understand until I went there & got grilled by them. I was like, wtf! There is so much indoctrination & so many religious judgemental zombies it’s mind boggling. People are moving out of my state so fast, rightfully so, but there is nowhere that’s untainted or doesn’t have its issues. Always appreciate your videos, research & how spot on you are. 💪🏼💪🏼

Jody Hilterbrand, a mental health therapist in Utah and recommended by Bishops, was recently convicted on child abuse charges. Had a mansion valued at 5 million dollars. Inside was a safe room with a vaulted door. Also, floor level garages and underground garage and an area for storage. Her practices was to duct tape mouths which she also did with Jesse, her niece. But also with two children in the charges handcuffed and ankle cuffed their feet- for the boy used a rope to join the two cuffs up. The children were told this was done because they love them. When the boy escaped, said it was his fault. Wonder if Jody tapped into this last days apocalypse? The phrase “like-minded people” and even the “will of the people” sends shivers down my spine. Cannot necessarily be bad but also can be said about extreme religious groups, white sepremists, antisemitism, etc etc. Just glad I am not part of a religious group now. Although, I do pay attention to events/politics in America as well as everywhere else. Sometimes we become part of religion- God will fix everything- for this reason. If there is a God, I hope he/she/they bust up religions- especially the extreme. Thanks always for your information.

Lol about the witnesses calling anti vaccine sentiment slanted or conspiracy theories on their forums. Everyone should definitely learn to question all information governments give us as well as high control religions. Despite being separated from the witnesses for many years , their whole embracing of the UN position definitely was an eye opener. Like most of their micro management ideas, all they had to do was leave things to the individual

Great job Phil!! Yes, it seems no doubt the organization is in a transitional stage like someone my age 67 has never seen. I left some 20+ years ago but am still touched by it through family and the issues that erode lives and cause problems. Overall, the Utility of Religion that you referenced will play large in this because JW's are a traditional base Religion despite their separation from mainstream Christian religion. Fun times!

I was RLDS before JW. That church fully modernized. WT might simply splinter if not for Jehovah smashing it to pieces via the hidden manna

Yeah.... Worldwide Church of God went through this. It went from having a lot of weird, unique rules that I grew up and then they decided to become a mainstream denomination and they tried to change policies slowly for that reason but it kept bleeding members. Now decades later they are almost completely mainstream but are much smaller... oh and they changed their name to complete the process/ I forget what the new name is ......

It's crazy that there is also a book written by an ex-jw called "Visions of Glory, A history and a memory of Jehovah's Witnesses" by Barbara Grizzuth Harrison about bethel in the 1950s and her experience in JWs! Two very different "visions of glory" books!

I agree that JWs shouldn’t change a thing. We grew up being told that Jehovah doesn’t change. So why are they changing? It’s like the split with the original Bible Students.

There has already been several groups formed by JWs who have left the Society and continue to believe they are JWs while the GB has apostacize. Robert King has a following, Greg Stafford has a following.

Morris was caught at a liquor store with a shopping cart full of alcohol and high priced,so I don't think he is coming back.

On waking up I realized we JWs had never read the Greek scriptures, as we had Genesis - Malachi. Of course we were to read at home and the later in the week the ORG would tell us what our assigned reading meant! I do not remember doing that with the Christian Greek scriptures? Since I have been reading these, I realize why? Oh we took a peak now and then if the talk was about the end of wickedness, we turned to Matthew Chapter 24 v 3 if the talk was to encourage obedience to the Faithful Slave we turned to Matt 24: 45-47 stop right there, don't read the next verses. When at the Memorial, we open our bible to Matt 26 v-26-28, not v 29 Luke v---, Mark v----. a couple verses in John Acts and Revelation. Our whole belief was built upon maybe 27 verses from the entire New Testament. If you keep reading the Gospel without Org guidance you can be in endangered to the point of praying to Our Heavenly Father Through our mediator Christ Jesus and receiving Holy Spirit. With tears running down your face and a smile you can not hold back you know you are in his Family. The Joy is amazing, Jesus our King, mediator and Savior will be with us if we ask your heavenly Father because Jesus was and is his plan! for Abraham's seed (little flock) all the way to us Gentiles (great crown of other sheep) not of that fold. Our Shepard brings us into One Fold, His Family! Please Read John, Acts and Galatians in many bibles (except NWT) and realize this is for all of US! I like the NIV New Testament. Pray to our Heavenly Father as Jesus told you to, talk to him and his son. talk openly and ask him anything and everything you need to know, ask for Holy Spirit from them. When you do this w/o fear you will not be able to stop smiling! get to know your spiritual father OBEY HIM! not greedy men. I talk to them anytime I need to make decisions, and I am always directed toward Jesus words in the new Testament. Praying for you now. Sister Wasson Ask your JW friend to read these books Matt---Rev aloud to you as you will both benefit.

Organised religions seem to be the problem; one starts to follow men - just try to follow Jesus Christ. By the way, JWs stick to 607 due to it being 70 years before 537. But why they say Jerusalem had to be completely destroyed then is crazy. The Jews were to serve Babylon for 70 years but JWs have Daniel being deported in 617, so according to them, Daniel served Babylon for 80 years which can't be true. Jews still served Babylon even if they still lived in Jerusalem for a while. It's more complicated than this, of course.

I had "nde" like a real 1 where I actually died 2wice and the doctors brought me bk I don't think I have anymore knowledge I'm grateful and everyday is a gift all that but it didn't even make me more religious I grew up jw born in so I seen holes in all religions because I was in hospital for a min phone wasnt as good as it is now but 2014 so I thought I was sparred for something special and maybe there is something to religion (I never been really religious cuz when my dad died they had a talk instead of talking bout my dad died I just really never been religious mainly because of jw teaching) but anyways I'm grateful but didn't seem a bright light except from the white lights where the doctors and EMS airlifted me my mom sis bros all still jw never visited me because I took blood I never was even baptized just raised in it my mom n dad n sis n bro were and that's another thing first thing to thank to say thank God like I would think I would I said ty doctors for saving my life
