I love that there is this channel in the UK!!! we dont get anything like that here, its great that the public can watch the company rehearse and see what effort goes into making a ballet and being a dancer!!

Gary's acting is phenomenal. So is Mathew. But the detail with Gary is off the hook.

How lucky! Unfortunately, we don't have that channel here. If we did, I'd watch it all day long. I'll probably give UK a visit next time, heehee.

Excellent Twylas. How many Twyla 'Thwaps' was that in all? Twee 'Thwaps' or three Twylas?

What, exactly, are Twylas and why are they so-named? I can't find this term on any fencing or stage combat site.

The fencing weapons do in no way represent the real thing. For fencing there are certain rules for an engagement in a duel. It is definitely not hacking around. Sabre and rapier are the common blades, with the floret for the ladies. It is of course out of the question to use live blades. The way Peter Wright teaches is convincing and adds some spice. Although not according to fencing rules.

zzp1 in fact, it's not a fencing olympic match or so... it's a choreographed fight for the dramaturgical purposes of the ballet
@ktoth29

+elpaseodegracia then choreographer should take into account that the duelists are trying to kill each other.

Yes but this isn't the sport or the 17th century training duel these men back then used swords as you would a gun so it's not whoever stabs the other man first wins but also the man who gets stabbed was usually killed although on rare occasions you could survive
@justinkrall1438
@justinkrall1438 7 лет назад
That's a really good point. My thought is since this is a dance piece the director and choreographer are less concerned with realism.

eek the pain of watching perfectly good epee's being bashed around. If you want these moves use a sabre, the risk of snapping is making me wince...

They're specially made by the armoury to withstand the choreography.
