I loved this movie and it's one of those things where I can't tell you why but it hasn't formed a large part of what I watch And I'll be honest I love Double Toasted and Corey but when I saw this title them calling it a bad movie I was ready to fight
Trust me, most of the bad movie reviews are movies I loved as a kid. But If actually watch some these movies you'll realize how bad these movies are. Still love them tho.
Nothing wrong with kicking back to a guilty pleasure flick from time to time, man. This is a movie I've watched since I was a lil dude and it's silly as hell, but it adds to the charm.
I saw this in theaters twice, had the VHS and I'm gonna get the blu ray lol the freaking sound effects for the kicks, the dodging and the just anything someone does in this movie
@aeoneditingservice that's a silly rebuttal. People can not enjoy things. I hate my drive to work because it seems to have a lot of unnecessary turns. "BuIlD a BetTeR rOaD."
Duuuude, Russell Wong made a badass villain in this. And I think Aaliyah and Jet Li had surprisingly solid chemistry. This movie hasn’t aged well but it’s still a childhood favorite of mine 🙌
Don't forget, Aaliyah actually filmed some scenes for the 2 Matrix sequel movies before she died. She was replaced by Marvin Gayes's daughter, Nona. Aaliyah was on her way to greatness. Approaching her prime in singing and acting. Broke my heart when she passed.
I always liked this movie. I had it on VHS. Big Aaliyah and Jet Li fan. I remember the making of for the movie showing Jet Li showing Aaliyah how to do her own stunts. Her death is still sad and unfortunate to me. She was a star and even rising higher before her untimely death.
Her tragic death from a plane crash was sad and unfortunate to you? Wow, what a unique perspective. I wonder if her legions of friends and her family thought a mega talent dying like that in her early 20s was sad and unfortunate too?
@@thoomolong you lack comprehension skills & I’m assuming you like to pick fights & argue for no reason. You don’t know me & you’re ASSuming the worst. Seek help and find someone else to play with
Someone on here did a cool animated Cartoon of Aliyah getting her material Back then disappearing into think doves in the snow. Watch it when you got the chance. Touching.😢
The early 2000’s king fu movies were a good era of film. They had everything, good music, great fight scenes, cool cars. I would love for this director to come back and do more. Exit Wounds, Romeo Must Die, Cradle 2 the Grave were fun.
Yes! A beautiful screen presence that matched her talent. I remember when Try Again was everywhere. I loved her action sequences with Jet Li! To be fair, I wish Romeo Must Die was used for one of their Retro Movie Reviews. This alongside The Last Dragon and Big Trouble in Little China. ❤
1. When Aaliyah said, "If a girl's kicking your ass you don't have to be a gentleman", I felt that in my soul 😅. But yeah, the reason Jet Li did Kiss Of The Dragon is because his fans told him he could do better than Romeo Must Die. Also, RIP Aaliyah and DMX
@@onifrancis1566Um, You're wrong about that. Both movies are good, but Kiss of the Dragon is just better. Saying they're bad movies means you don't know what you're talking about.
Funny because Jet Li did go on to make Cradle 2 The Grave 3 years later, which is pretty much a spiritual sequel to Romeo Must Die. It's got the same team, some of the same actors and even has the same Ring of Fire fight scene at the end. Lol
That bowl cut had been in their family for generations. The ultimate disrespect was after they killed Jet Li's little brother, they gave him a center part.
Not a great Shakespeare adaption but a FUN one. Also it's the beginning of the 2000's martial arts hip hop trilogy with Exit Wounds and Cradle to the Grave.
I actually like the concept and story to “The One”. The issue for me is the movie rushes to quickly. I personally think it had potential had it took its story more seriously and allow its characters and world to build, it would have been received much better. A guilty pleasure of mines. I saw it in theaters.
@@lenindominguez1986 the theater experience? It was nice man, I saw the matinee showing at the s Showcase Cinemas. Unfortunately they tore it down in 05, it was built in 1964. I honestly miss it cause it had that vintage look, smell, and feel to it. With the old arcade games of street fighter and MK. Good times.
I'll defend this movie , during that time (2000s) everyone is doing matrix sequences. Romero Must Die is one of the best hidden gems action flims. To this day, it's one of my favorite action flim.
Fist of Legend is Jet Li at the apex of his martial arts prowess! If you like that you should also watch Fearless, Once Upon A Time In China 1 & 2, Unleashed, and Kiss of the Dragon
Thank all of You over at Double Toasted! I've had fun with the goofiness of Romeo Must Die over the years! It's silly and campy and just meant to have fun. It's over the top in every way they could think of. I hope everyone had a great time on set!
I remember being excited this was Jet Li’s first time leading a Hollywood movie. And Aaliyah’s first time in any movie and she was so beautiful. The fight scenes was so-so, I don’t think they really fully figured out how to use HK-style action in Hollywood outside of the Matrix franchise at that time
Oh yes a movie where I'm sure most of the people who watched it (including myself) bought it from a guy who was selling it out of its trunk in front of a barbershop.
Jet Li cared about Aaliyah outside of RMD. It's been said that her aura is what captivated him, DMX, Dame Dash, Jay-Z, and TImbaland and I believe it. I still wonder to this day what would've been for Aaliyah in the future. Rest In Paradise, Aaliyah
@@hothotheat3000 That is my point. Romance without friendship is just sex. Their story isn't over, just the movie. After they stop worrying about getting killed, they would hang out and get to know each other better.
@@randomanton True, though back then, they didn't let them kiss sometimes. Remember watching The Replacement Killers with Chow Yun Fat, though with a white woman and I thought how weird it was that they didn't kiss because if it was Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise, they would have kissed. Though I like when movies don't push romance, I don't like it when it isn't equal.
My biggest problem with Romeo Must Die is it made me not want to go see Kiss of the Dragon, in 2001. KOTD is one of the best martial arts movies put to film, and I hate that I didn’t see it on the big screen. At least I knew enough to not miss out on Unleashed, Fearless or the Forbidden Kingdom. Those are all amazing.
Jet Li had way more charisma in Lethal Weapon 4 b/c it was mostly a Chinese-speaking and silent role (only one English line). There's still an audio recording of a 1998 crowd's reaction to the fight scene in Murtaugh's house, and the atmosphere was electric.
Man!! i actually love this movie lol this was my first Jet Li movie that started it all for his movies when i was a kid... it is silly but its really fun!
I remember seeing this movie when I was young and I really liked it. I would not qualify this movie as a "bad" movie. Also one of the few movies that showcase a interracial relationship between an Asian man and black woman front and center which is not very common in movies even today.
So all black folk have to like every damn hood movie? If it's good its good and if it's bad it's ok to laugh at it. I'm black too and don't like all these damn low quality movies just because we're supposed to.
It’s a bad movie roast they already established they like bad movies This a child hood classic for me so I’m always going to have on my nostalgic glasses but reviewing this as an adult this definitely isn’t a good movie it’s enjoyable, entertaining.
While I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s horrible movie since it’s a childhood favorite of mine watching it on VHS, I will say after watching this roast live, I was laughing my ass off from the unintentionally hilarious moments especially the Matrix esque flying attack from Jet Li on the goons at 16:53! Glad you guys tackled this one despite me having a soft spot for it.
@@nehemiahpouncey3607kangaroo jack gets a pass cuz he had O Connell to bounce off of, who was even goofier in the movie, so they come off as 2 schmucks lol
as a kid, i was so hyped for jet li to make an american movie. from the first time i saw it, i knew something wasn't right about it. to this day, _kiss of the dragon_ is the only english-speaking jet li movie that i like all the way through
Okay this will sound like a thesis. This isn't a great movie by any stretch but was very enjoyable. The film had many things going for it: - Aaliyah and Jet Li are both very likable actors and had great chemistry. It's a minor touch but I like how Jet Li was shorter than Aaliyah. Goes against what we usually see in movie couples. I think part of Jet Li's charm is that he isn't built like a leading man, so he's like an underdog in a way. - Anthony Anderson was funny to me, sorry. "Sometimes you win. And dim sum you lose" 🤣 - Jet Li calling Anthony Anderson meatball was also funny. - Fight choreography was unrealistic sure, but a lot of fun, to me. - I like how we see Asian and black gangs interact with each other. Something we don't see too often so it was refreshing. - And this film was also self-aware. It knows what it is and pulls no punches (no pun intended). Also, it's not fair to compare Jackie Chan to Jet Li. Jet Li is known more for his fighting style, and as a martial artist, while Jackie Chan, albeit also a good fighter, relies on creativity and stunts. Both are awesome btw
This is one of those movies where I hope y'all wrap back around to say, "It's not bad and I don't understand why y'all recommended this to us". NO NO Y'ALL LEAVE ROMEO MUST DIE ALONE!!! Typing this before watching video. Scared to watch cuz I legit love this movie.
Every time I see this title I keep thinking of a lyric from that Kanye West song Never Let Me Down lol: "Cause look what a accident did to Left-Eye First Aaliyah, now Romeo must die I know I got angels watchin' me from the other side"
I love this movie when it came out due the soundtrack and fights scenes. But it is clear this movie is a product of his time and hasn’t aged well. It makes you realise how dirty Hollywood did black people back then where a movie where black characters get beaten up for the whole film passed as entertainment for black audiences. You can’t make movies like this anymore with African American making up 30% of US box office ticket sale black people being in large numbers in four continents and black audiences no longer support movies with beta black characters anymore.

The real tragedy to Aaliyah's passing isn't the pilot or the flight company it was the people she had around her it was said she didn't want to get on the plane she was getting bad vibes about boarding her flight. And the people in charge kept telling the pilot that all their gear & people had to get on the plane the pilot kept telling them no you guys have too much stuff. It's also being said that Aaliyah was drugged & put on the plane because she refused to go she may have wanted a bigger plane but regardless less she was put on the plane against her will. And guess what? She was killed it was a good thing she wasn't awake when the plane went down she would've been scared out of her mind I blame the people that was with her for her death.
It was the pilot and charter company fault. Unless you read thr court documents like I did back in 2005, then you don't have a clue about what you're talking about.
@@brandonray4379There's more going on then you know as I said Aaliyah didn't want to get n the plane. Which now brings up my next question since her man Damon was in the buisness the moment she told him about the plane why didn't he get her another plane that was bigger? Lenny Kravitz sent one of his planes to her but one of the big wigs took it instead talk about a dick move. She would still be alive right now.
This movie is a classic now with a great cast and is a family story. Jet Li getting introduced more to the American and Western audience and Aliyah with nice songs and their chemistry. It doesn't belong in bad movie reviews at all.
Is there ever gonna be a movie explosion. That isnt a huge fireball. Especially when they show it up close like that. So i guess that pkg had 20 gallons of compressed gasoline in it.
Thank you for reviewing this! Ya’ll speak the truth! But this was based in the Bay Area, lots of us didn’t like the fact that NO OTHER characters act like there from the North Bay/Bay area San Francisco and Oakland area. They didn’t even use the word “hella” but oh well, entertaining movie and thank you Korey, Martin & Billy for this. Hahaha the club scene from you guys. LOL 😂.
Gosh darn, they clowning one of my childhood favorites, but duuuude I hope y'all do Cadle 2 The Grave! Lmao I remember when I was kid, I thought that Cadle 2 The Grave movie and Romero's Revenge were the same movie cuz of Jet Li & Dmx 😂
This movie sums up the whole rise of Jet li movies in the west in the early 2000's. After the matrix Jet li was the best guy providing the kind of action and fighting we saw in it until Reloaded.
