I so love that you will tout others Ron. I've been using your bench for two years now, and every time someone sees it in action, i'm blown away that they don't know where i got it. Thanks for all the great stuff. I can't wait to build my next iteration of your bench.

Fantastic choice Ron. I bought one as soon as they were available in the US. You can make a piece of MDF a valuable work surface. I like the fact that I don’t have to try to protect the work surface because I can make a new one in just a few minutes.

I bought this jig several months ago and abandoned my thought of hauling my material to a CNC shop to get the holes drilled. I had watched Peter Parfitt demonstrate his invention and I found that Lee Valley carried it. Like you I used it right out of the “tube” and got dead on results. Holes exactly 96 millimeters apart. Lee valley also stocks the bench dogs and, there are two types to chose from. By the way, the dogs actually measure 19.95 millimeters to enable a proper fit. With the table and four dogs you have the ability to form a perfect 90 degree square anywhere on the table. That is just the beginning. There is one thing however, 3 millimeter drill bits are not everywhere here in north America and I have yet to successfully source them. If you lose the drill bit or, your drill falls on the floor and you snap it, your finished. It hasn’t happened so far but I would like a backup. I subscribe to your channel and Peter Parfitts and always appreciate the topics. Great stuff.

Harold Kingston the bits are a common size. If you can’t find them locally, they are easy to find online,

As above, you should be able to source them online.

I've got one of the mark one system to make a layout table to keep in my van. I also got a couple bench dogs that slip nicely into the holes for clamping or planing against. It's a great system to generate accuracy again and again!

Hi Ron Speaking as an Englishman it is great to see you recommending something designed by another Englishman. I prefer your carpentry but Peter Parfitt is a fantastic teacher of carpentry. It is never a waste of time watching either of you. One thing that puzzles me is that both of you have subscribers n the tens of thousands when there are some out there with hundreds of thousands of viewers, some of those deserve the numbers but there is at least one with nearly a million viewers who has never done a day's commercial carpentry in their life, and is just an average type of DIY'er with little new to contribute. I would not mind if the channel had ten thousand viewers, but nearly a million???? How do you think the RU-vid market for carpentry videos is going to develop? Maybe the good thing is that everyone gets to follow the carpentry channels of their choice.

I bought the Parf Mk 2 and it is a significant improvement over the original. I haven't used it yet, but I am extremely impressed with the quality and engineering. I ordered this from Axminster in the UK because it was actually cheaper than ordering from TSO. Shipping was cheap and it arrived promptly. However, the small "joining screw" was missing, and getting that little screw turned into quite the ordeal. But I managed to contact Peter Parfitt directly and he got it taken care of. Axminster comped me with some free Parf dogs, so I felt better about it. I will still buy from Axminster if it's cheaper than TSO.

Great to have all these wonderful aftermarket products being developed. I just purchased a DominoFix MFT jig router template for the same purpose at $99.83 US delivered. It has an accuracy Tolerance of 0,01° and seems even easier to use.
@KoJo-qh9od
@KoJo-qh9od 5 лет назад
Where did you get it for 99.83? Festool lists them for 129.00 for the jig another 105.00 dollars for the 20mm bit and guide bushing.

my paulk workbench was made with the mark1...completely sweet setup, but wishing i had the mark2 (someday). Completely dead-on for both sides. Only difference was the main side with the router is setup square, the back half is setup with an isometric layout.

Great product even before this video it was on my short list of tools to buy But I have to talk about something , you might want to tell your viewers the benefits of having such accurate 20 mil holes For every guy who knows exactly why, there's another guy saying " what the hell do I need that for if I want a bunch of holes I'll lay them out in pencil and drill them " Am I right...lol

I am new to carpentry, sorry for silly question...but what is the advantage to exact hole placement like this?
@scatdawg1
@scatdawg1 5 лет назад
one reason is so you dont have to make parts that fit into it for each spot. it will fit in anywhere if you use a jig
@bighands69
@bighands69 5 лет назад
@@dirtbiker651 It means that each hole has perfect aligned this then allows perfect 90 degree angles to be formed. With just 3 Dogs in the holes and a track saw you can cut perfect square wood every time. For small workshops this means that a table saw is not needed. There are accessories that then allow 45 Degree cuts and other angles as well.

$200 is a bit expensive for something you will only use 1 time. You can use a forstner bit, router, straight edge, and spacer blocks to get the same results for basically free.
@TheSmartWoodshop
@TheSmartWoodshop 4 года назад
The Parf Guide is a high value tool and not possible to get the precision offered without it except going to a CNC machine. Far from single-use: so many shop tools I build with it that speed up my workflow and efficiency. Plus the rulers, 20mm bit, and drill block have many uses beyond making benchtops. If my Parf went missing, I would order a new one within minutes. Not a week goes by without using it. It is a major bargain at $200.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most Bench Dog's 3/4" or 19mm? Wouldn't there be too much play with a 20mm hole?

I put a link to TSO in the video description. They are back ordered everywhere as Parf had no idea how popular they would be and sold out the first run in two days. They are in the process of putting out a second run and trying to expand production capabilities. Put in your order with TSO and you will get it the fastest possible. TSO shipment should be in mid-Feburary. tsoproducts.com/accessories/ujk-technology-parf-guide-system-mark-ii/

The Parf guide Mark II has a couple of different features and is supposed to be a little More accurate. It also has a offset feature which is pretty nice if you combine it with the Festool track and TS 55 tracksaw. Also the hardware overall looks a little more sturdy. @ Ron: The video is great, thanks al lot!!

Stupid question - how tight are the tolerances once it's in action with three quarter inch standard bench dogs in a 20 millimeter hole?
@whitevanman8703
@whitevanman8703 5 лет назад
They don't fit, and speaking as somebody who thinks most carpentry should be done in imperial measurements I don't really care.
@dsdragoon
@dsdragoon 5 лет назад
Let's see 20 mm /25.4 mm/in. = 0.7874 0.7874 in. - 0.75 in. = 0.0374 in That's about 1/32 in. gap. then the 3/4 in. dogs might feel a bit loose. A wrap or two of tape should tighten up the fit. For clamping and most dog work a loose fit will not hurt a thing.
@LostWhits
@LostWhits 5 лет назад
There is a company called yellowboxshed that now have a US supplier. He 3d prints a collar for 3/4 dogs to fit 20mm holes. Also prints heaps of dog options.

An inch/imperial distance set (keeping the 20mm holes) would be great for us troglodytes who may never be able to switch over.
@harveysmith100
@harveysmith100 5 лет назад
3"3/4 is 96mm give or take a fraction of a 64th. So just buy the set and think of the hole centers as 3"3/4
