On 01/21/2023 at approximately 1029 hours Field Training Officer Stockman and I were traveling eastbound on McCain Blvd in a marked NLRPD patrol unit when we observed an unlicensed silver Chevy Equinox changing lanes without using a turn signal. At this time I initiated a traffic stop around the 3500 block of McCain Blvd by activating my emergency lights and siren while traveling approximately 61MPH to catch up to the vehicle. The vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of McCain Blvd and Warden Rd due to a red light. Once the light turned green, the vehicle traveled eastbound on McCain Blvd at approximately 60MPH,thus resulting in a pursuit.
The vehicle continued traveling eastbound on E McCain Blvd while passing Springhill at approximately 70MPH. As the suspect vehicle was approaching Smokey Lane, the vehicle slowed to approximately 52MPH, moved over into the right lane, and back into the left in order to avoid another vehicle. The vehicle continued traveling east on E McCain Blvd at approximately 71MPH.The Vehicle reached about 91MPH before reaching the intersection of Forrester Rd. The suspect vehicle attempted to make a left turn onto Forrester Rd, however the vehicle was unsuccessful and instead drove through the parking lot of Pat Salmon and Sons (4806 E McCain Blvd) while nearly striking a telephone pole. The vehicle continued traveling east through the parking lot at approximately 30MPH onto Roundtop Rd, directly underneath the Fairfax bridge.
The vehicle continued traveling on Roundtop Rd towards the intersection of Fairfax Dr at approximately 42MPH. The suspect vehicle disregarded the stop sign located at Fairfax Dr and Roundtop Rd at approximately 35MPH. The suspect vehicle continued traveling east on Fairfax Dr towards State Highway 161 at approximately 65MPH.The vehicle then slowed down to about 15MPH before negotiating a left turn onto State Highway 161 and continuing north at approximately 56MPH, while passing Flowers Ln. The vehicle continued northbound on State Highway 161 towards McAlmont while traveling approximately 78MPH.While traveling north on State Highway 161, the vehicle passed a vehicle by crossing into the southbound lane (oncoming traffic) at approximately 57MPH and then accelerated to approximately 111MPH.
The vehicle negotiated a left curve at approximately 80MPH and made an abrupt left turn onto Trammel Rd, traveling approximately 50MPH.While we were attempting to turn onto Trammel Rd, our patrol unit got stuck in the muddy terrain. Officer Hendrix took the primary position in the pursuit (see Officer Hendrix's supplemental report for further information).
Once Officer Stockman and I were able to free our patrol unit, we proceeded on Trammel Rd to take
custody of the driver from Officer Hendrix.
Upon our arrival, we were advised that the driver was identified as Juan Peregrino-Buenrostro, who
could not provide proof of ownership of the vehicle he was driving. Before impounding the vehicle,
Officer Stockman ran the vehicle through the ACIC/NCIC database, and it was not reported stolen.
Officers made contact with the previous registered owner, Glen Barker at his residence, whom
advised he traded the vehicle in November of 2022 to McLarty Toyota. The vehicle was towed by J
Hook Towing Co.
Peregrino-Buenrostro was transferred to our patrol unit, and transported to PCRDF where he was
charged accordingly.
