The Rough Country Suspension kit is installed in the 1993 GMC K1500 (Ol Blue). Still some tweaking to do but at least it's done. Please Share,Subscribe and give us a thumbs up.
Greetings, I reviewed the video again as I’m getting ready to do the install with a buddy. Thank you for having taken the time and passing on the knowledge. You da bomb! 😂
Ever since the first time I heard you quote "Excellence is not a skill... It's an Attitude. I had a couple of sticka's made up and posted them in my office and shop. Love that quote. The quality of my work has increased ten-fold since I been watching your video's. By the way I'm a 100%er. Great job on the lift.
That's great. I'm glad it makes people think when I quote that verse. It's a quote I try to live by. I think you for taking the time to watch and comment on our videos. Much appreciated.
I'd say it added a few hours to the job but when you promise people you'll film it you have to do it. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching it.
Great job guys.. Pretty involved project, more to it than I expected. Gives old blue a great stance, and some attitude.. I like it a lot. Easy to sit here and watch you work it all out, but have been into enough stuff myself to know that it was not an easy job.. As always, you make it look easy. Great project and great results, thanks for taking us along.......
Thanks David. For me the mess of undercoating was the worst of it but only for the undercoating there would be no truck by now. Thank you very much for watching and commenting.
I love the time you took to explain clearly your step by step process this was extremely helpful! More videos please! This was the most thorough video I’ve seen on a lift kit install!
Job well done! Truck looks great. Things work out when you cover all the bases. Nice to see older vehicles still in great shape that get used every day. Take care and enjoy! Levi~~
Well I had come to a crossroads this year with the truck. I either had to bring it up to a some what modern standard or buy a new truck. After weighing all the factors I felt it was better to fix Ol Blue up a bit. I don't need a truck all the time and dishing out $70.000 for a new one that will be parked 95% of the time didn't make sense so I think I made the right decision. Keep well my friend.
Excellent ingenuity Paul! The first lift kit I ever installed was on a similar gm truck. Did the exact same thing loosening the torsion bar crossmember and worked like a charm. I have a suspicion that aftermarket suspension companies aren't familiar with the road salt we have in Upstate NY lol
I know u more likely won't read this but I don't usually comment on videos but that was an excellent video.. I enjoyed watching it to the very end.. I liked the way u explained things, u made it look easy and we know that it isn't always that way especially with them old bolts and stuff.. You seem like a very wise man and much to learn from you.. I would love to hang around and chat with you, a lot to learn from you... Thank you for the video and God bless you and yours...
Well Edgar I did read your comments. I try and read all the comments. Thank you for your kind comments and thank you for taking the time to watch the video. The lift turned out great. The old truck looks as good as new and rides great. Here’s a link of the truck. Keep well, stay safe and God bless you and yours. Cheers........Paul flic.kr/p/2i54ZmA flic.kr/p/2jEhSiL flic.kr/p/KvG8MN
My grandpa has a 1990 GMC serria 1500 and is still running and driving and it's used every day hauling a trailer or heavy stuff and never had a problem with it
Got to say Paul sweet job as always if we only lived closer I would have you do one for me I appreciate the attention to detail you take when doing the work take care Napa mike
Thanks Mike. Much appreciated. I hated removing those NAPA shocks off the truck. They are the best I ever used. I think so much about them I kept them and put them in storage. I'm a big NAPA fan. Great products. The old truck is getting better every day. Keep well sir.
I too watched the whole video! Great job and Thank you! I like Ol'Blue just the way she is now. I don't think I would add the bushwhacker fender flares, but thats just me.
Thanks Capt. I'm trying the Bushwackers because the over sized tires are spitting mud up over the side of the truck so I'm hoping these will help. I also wanted to give the truck a modern look. After looking at it for more than 20 years I needed to see a change ;)
Thanks for the links I will be checking them out. Keep up the Great work just a shame your workshop is not around the corner from me I'd bring over some problems.
I have installed lift kits on 3 of my 4 X 4 pickups. A '82 Chevy a '83 Toyota and a '86 Dodge. All had front axles so just had to replace the leaf springs. So much easier than what you had to do.
Paula you and Kathy are a good team I injured the video my pride and joy is 1994 Ford XLT 150 I bought her new to got her out of the shop new pan no undercoat and main seals two manifolds had the body done a few years ago only drive her 3000 miles a year I am a Ford person my wife likes Honda Odyssey 2007 one of my friends owned 1993 Chevrolet 1500 but is in the junkyard now wish more people took care of three things like you. Two Rivers Wisconsin PaK
Great job guys, Ol Blue looks great, & handle great too. We watch all the way through, love it. Great video as always my friends. Glad it cooled down for ya. Its cooler here today, but rain showers coming through. Again. LOL oh well, it is what it is. LOL Guys you stay safe & take care our friends.
Thanks Cary. The next time someone wants a lift kit installed I'll send them to go see you and Debbie lol. I was waiting for a cooler day to do it so it happened. Keep well buddy. Thanks for watching.
Nice Work Paul, It's a bit of work and messing around. But the truck sits a lot better and with the new tires makes it look beefy too !! .... 10 thumbs up !!
Loved the suspension video you sure made it look easy. Have you done any video on servicing the Kubota I've looked and I hadn't seen any in the past. If I've missed it can you do one next time you service the Kubota. It would be very much appreciated as you willingness to share your vast knowledge is truly a generosity not shared by many. Thank Peter
Thanks Peter. I've done many service videos on the Kubota's including technicial tips. Here's a few links that should keep you busy for awhile. Thanks for watching. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pi9PVdEmNRs.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jX5EncUkSQo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YQeNpsRmFJE.html
Old Blue looks great! Thx for taking us along. BTW, an old friend of yours wishes to say hello, currently my Wifey is having lunch with Linda Flemming in down town Brampton, Ontario. They met at a wedding shower. Though a chat Bay Roberts came up. Very small world. You are likely going to have a new subscriber soon. Take care!!
Thank you. Very cool. There are Newfoundlanders everywhere lol. A guy was wearing a t shirt with out logo on it at a Denny's in California. Another customer walked up to him and said he watches us on RU-vid as well. Yup. Small world. Thanks for watching.
Oh very happy. Just didn't like doing the video. When your doing a big job like this you want to keep the momentum going but you have to stop. Clean your hands to handle the camera. You do that 45 times in the case of this video and it really slows you down.
Had to grind it down to make room for the new bracket that needs to fit in place. I highly doubt it will ever make a difference but it was a royal pain in the ass to do. I did save major time by using the plasma to do it.
I'm sure glad that task is finished, I have been dreading it since you first mentioned it. I was well aware of the amount of effort that would be required and apparently you were too. It's one of those jobs that you have to put on blinders as to the amount of work it's going to take and just focus on the final results.
Yup. You understand. I went out Saturday morning to the shop and dug into it. I wasn't stoping until it was done. I was happy when it was. Got the alignment done.Truck handles perfectly. Installed the Bushwackers tonight. Just the auxiliary Air tank to install and that's it for the old truck.
So much easier when you have a car lift! I am still crawling on the ground under the Tahoe, laying on asphalt driveway. Boy it can be rough, but I still have fun. Someday I will get too old for that and need a car lift.
I would watch your video if it was an hour or two long because you and Cathy make a good pro video and I appreciate watching people who know what they're doing.
You have the attitude as well as skill. That makes you a "MASTER", ehh?!? I better stop or I will give you the "big head", huh?!? What's true is true, ehh?!? Love the video. Again, you "knocked it out of the park". I have to replace my leaf springs and shackle on my ford ranger a few years back. It was not as extensive as what you did here, but it overwhelmed me. I had a local "shade tree" mechanic repair it for me. I wish I would have undercoated that truck as well as my new dodge ram I got a few years ago. Them rangers are bad fpr that, and maybe chevy has problem, too, with theirs as well, but undercoating would definately have helped. Thanks again and GOD Bless.
Donnie I was sure tired by the time I got it done. Woke up this morning feeling like I was hit by a truck. Went out and cleaned up the shop but the truck looked great so I was happy. Thanks for watching my buddy. Keep well and God bless you and yours. Thanks for your kind comments.
+Paul Short No problem, Sir. You are going to have to take it easy and get some rest, then. You deserve it. Both of you do. Ole' Blue does look great, though. A job well done. Get some rest and have a good day. I myself am off due to Independence Day, but in between rain and thunderstorms, I need to get some maintenence on vehicles done. Thank GOD for bro in laws to loan me their carport. LOL. Thanks and GOD Bless.
+Paul Short I may try and tackle the task of installing my lights on my tractor rops. If so, I may get a video of it. Shouldn't be too difficult. I am going to do some research to see if I have an auxillary wiring for a rear light kit like some people claim bx25's do. That will make that a little easier. Let you go and get to work. Thanks for responding. Going back to bed, since wifey just left for work, til it gets daylight cause it is pouring rain now. Ohh, poo, no fireworks, I guess. LOL. No complaint from me for that. It scares all my "fur babies" anyway. Thanks.
Speaking of suspension: I was contemplating a front sway bar on the BX25. When the bucket is loaded, the tractor is tippy. I am thinking a small enough bar should help keep the four tires planted. Any thoughts ?
That Ole Blue isn't Blue any more, sitting right up there smiling and very much an attention gitter..Nice Job Paul, yes and Kathy with the camera, stay safe, God Bless !!
Doing ok thanks Paul..Day to Day for the rest of my life..(man are there gonna be a bunch of miserable folks cause I don't plan on dying anytime soon)..LOL..Keep the good thoughts !!
You and I both buddy. The good lord is keeping me around to torment the wicket and If there is one thing I'm good at its tormenting lol. God bless you and yours.
Nice lift kit mounting for a nice truck! What about som air suspension the the compressed air is there already :-) Ol'blue is a very lucky truck who has Paul and kathy as owner!
Hi there, first off I loved the video! 👍 second I have a few questions for you. I have a 91 gmc 1500 that has a 6 inch lift on it and comparing to yours it looks like the guy who put my lift on out my front shocks on upside down, will this affect the ride quality? Second it looks like my front diff has been rubbing on the drivers side, should it have two mounting bolts on the drivers side? It only has one.
I've watched this video 3-4 times to get a better understanding of the suspension set up for my 94' OBS. I'm a teacher so really appreciate the thoroughness without loosing our attention. Any long term updates you'd care to post?
Thanks Mike. Glad you liked the video. It’s tough to capture every step I did try and get the important part. Although I don’t use the truck that often I do pull a dump trailer and welding machine at times and I’ve never experienced any issues with the lift kit. I remember reading some of the reviews on the Rough Country site and some folks were stating they had a hard time doing an alignment after the install but in my case there no issues at all and everything went smoothly and the truck has been great on the road. Yes it rides rougher but not to bad at all. It gave the truck a nice stance and I’m very happy with how it turned out. Thanks for watching and commenting. flic.kr/p/T9vugf
Thanks Bryan. Don't blame you on the commercials but they do help us buy the equipment and the products you see in the videos. Yes it was a pretty big job but it turned out great and I'm happy with it.
Hi had a question for u I have a GMC Sierra 1500 94” I just did the whole suspension and added a 4” lift only thing I didn’t change was the upper co trip arms !!
I really don't know how anyone can watch this stuff unless someone is thinking about doing the same. I did the video because I had promised some folks I would so I had to do it lol, hope your doing well.
+Paul Short Just dandy and you would not believe the stuff that's on RU-vid with big numbers and I'm thinking to myself like what's wrong with me Paul , just pathetic . LOL
...... I have a problem with my left arm it has camber looks /| like this and my guy that installed it says it might be the upper control arms !? I checked them and the left arm looks like it’s a bit lower the the other side it actually is lowerred it touching the frame and the other side is not has gap !? So my question is u think it’s the upper arms !? It’s the only part that’s original in the suspension ? Thanks will love to hear your input
No rust in NFLD ! I live in NB and under coat the heck out of all my Vehicles. Just bought a new truck my last one was a GMC 2500 US truck I owned it the last 20 of its 30 year life and it plowed snow commercially the first 10 years I owned it and just a few drives the last 10 years ! swear by u Der coating and swore at it when I had to work on it.It will get a double coat of crown this year so they drill all the holes and next year it's Rumble undercoating with a dash of Trans fluid .With all the airbags I am not drilling the holes !
Crikey heaps of upgrades now going up in the world, any higher and Kathy will be no longer upper management, lol. Hey that bit about holly snapping ass holes must be universal as I heard that when I was kid down here in NZ 50 years ago. Anyway great guys so atb.
Interesting. Not often I hear that phrase yet you knew about it on the other side of the world. People don't realize that 3" on a trucks height is high and it makes a high difference to it. I'm happy with it though.
the napa shock looks bigger because its a twin tube design. the actual piston and internals are probably smaller. and your right about the new gm leafs. I worked at a shop in town for a while and wed replace a leaf almost every second week om some trucks only a couple years old.
ive been watching u from 0 to 33.44 and i just had to pause and say every second im like this guy is amazing perfect video on explain rough country to use this video big time theirs sucked
I am in the process of installing the same kit on my suburban , did you have to do and grinding on the driver's uper factory diff mount to get the supplied brackets to fit properly and to lay flush on the factory mount on the frame
I would have changed the Leafsprings . One of my leafs was in 2 pieces when I did a torsion key front , 3” tapered lift block with new 2” skyjacker lift Leafsprings. Better ride now.
Rear discs don't work well here in Newfoundland. Even GM had to revert back to drums a number of times to stop all the complaints. I would never consider it while living here. Rear drum brakes are virtually maintenance free.
Thanks. I actually had chrome valve covers and a rear def cover on it yea s ago and they didn't last six months when the corrosion got to them so I simply put the old stuff back. I'm n order to keep things from rusting it needs to be coated.
over da yars iv learn'ta spray all my parts wit'da clear can liquor, includ'n da nutz n bolt'za ! used engine oil for me under coat'n dressing'sa for da protectin !
