203 days (29 weeks) since i broke my ankle, clean break on my fib and i still get aches and pains today. it feels weak when trying to play football change of direction hurts the most and feels wobbly when pushing off on it. i think the hardest thing to get over is the mental side of the game and not wanting to re break it so pulling out of challenges and not pushing yourself to what you was once capable of
Bro I am also football player I broke my ankle while catching the ball (that was very power ) so it have 2 years . When I am playing football it also hurts 😭
This is great! I’m 6 weeks post surgery and my physio appointment isn’t scheduled yet. Really like the understanding of what we’re doing in these exercises. The heel, flat foot then toe makes so much sense! Thanks
i fractured my fibula 6 weeks ago, didnt have to get surgery thankfully, recently took the boot off that they gave me for the 6 weeks and transitioned into a ankle brace, i have tried walking and it feels great sometimes with no pain and sometimes there is pain. i have been doing ankle exercises and doing range of motion stuff that does hurt a little bit but i cant tell if thats good pain or bad pain.
Can’t comment on personal situations, always best to get it checked out and assessed by physio/physical therapist to guide through the process. Every situation is different and there are so many facets to pain/recovery/people.
Me too, it's exactly 6 weeks today I fractured my fibula with no surgery needed, but with removable boots. I basically have the same symptoms as you do. How do you feel now? Have you gotten better? It's been 2 months since your comment. Tell me something encouraging. 😊
@@themathtutorphd can you please tell me how many exercises you were doing for a day, I'm on the 6'th week now and still not recovered, btw I have same pain fibula bone 😢
7 weeks post op broke ankle both sides & tibia, plate & screws, started weight bearing with boot 2 weeks ago, 1 week before Dr approval. Every week I notice improvement but still very painful with limited movement. I can walk in chest high water & swim but still crutches & boot out of pool
@lonelysniper-lilithvail-1500 I walk with a limp & pain every step some days are better than others. Coming up 11 months for me. Before this injury I was averaging 20+ km per day walking 😐
Trimal break for me, talus dislocation jammed up in between my tib and fib and smashed up the syndesmosis … 7 mo. Out and I can do some deadlifts (1/3rd the weight I use to) and some air squats, just broke parallel with no hands on anything. Crazy how hard this is to recover from
Hi.. i am from Nigeria. Thank you for the video.. am super glad to see this video hoping it will be helpful to me in time to come.. please i had an ankle injury on my right leg one month ago and the big bone (Tibia) came out of my flesh causing a big wound, while the small bone (fibula) got broken. But after the surgery the (fibula) have been fixed with some irons to keep it strong while it heals which was stitched with no visible wound but the (Tibia) was fixed back to it usual position and was stitched a little which closed only 10 percent of the wound leaving 90 percent of it opened. Because the doctor said is not good to stitch it all closed because the flesh that the bone popped out from was already dead before the surgery so he cut them off meaning i have to wait for the flesh to grow again.. please my QUESTION IS: can i do these exercise while the wound is still open and not yet totally healed or should i wait till the flesh wound is totally healed before i start this exercise? Please a Quick reply will be so HELPFUL 🙏. i am in need of the help. Thank you.
This is quite a complex case which requires a bit more than a chat over RU-vid I’m afraid. Would seek advice from your surgeon/consultant before doing any rehab to work out your precautions and timescales. These videos aren’t intended as medical advice. Hope your recovery goes well.
Would it be okay to do these exercises 4-5 weeks post break and use pain as a tool to measure recovery. Example perform these and 0 pain generally means no issues?
6 weeks as well recovering from a lower part of the fibula fracture with no surgery, my cast has been changed 3 times since start getting lighter each times and now no needed anymore. The doctor told me to put 50% of my weight to start with for two weeks but feel I can do more. However did you or someone experienced that the foot got bigger each times after standing for some moments? I believe blood circulation or water retention... this is not helping me to exercise standing for long time.... Any advices on how to reduce that big foot to happen? Do it will get better with time ? Thanks again for the great videos
Commonly when patients return to full weight bearing, the ankle may get swelling towards the end of the day. Usually this vastly dissipates by the morning.
I had fifth metatarsal fracture while playing. My bone got healed after 4 weeks and the pain was just gone in 10 days ,but i cannot walk properly,i feel difficulty.when will be i able to play?
My tibia had a crack right in the uncle and my fibula broken i got 8 screws and 2 metal plates right in the ancle and a metal rod inside the fibula I dont have that much movement side to side because it hurs and whenever i go up it feels tight and cant go all the way up im 8 weeks after surgery
I'm 7 weeks in they said I could weght bear I did a bit but foot and heel is really sore and stiff and I can't stand on it now it's never ending, one thing is helping a little is rubbing comfrey and coconut oil into ankle
Hi, I hope you are still reading your comments I had an ankle fusion surgery almost 4 months ago, and only recently , I've started to walk on my left foot after the boot and am now slowly with my open flip-flops with socks, of course. I have been swimming for the past 2 weeks and walking in the water, which was scary. But now I have been getting sharp pains like electric shock pains, which is very scary. Is this normal and its part of the heeling ?
Can’t comment on personal situations. You surgeon/physio will be best placed answer those things. From personal experience it’s common to have pain for numerous months but whether it’s down to normal timescales or something new that’s happened post surgery it’s something to discuss on future appointments.
My physio and surgeon told me it’s a year before I’ll feel normal, I’ve had the same zaps as you by the sounds of it. Lighten up the load for a bit and just keep it moving. It’s going to swell and turn colour for a year … I’m still getting that at 7 mo.
Hello ! just removed the cast ( fibula fracture ) 6th week now 8 screws + plate . When can i start the exercises? the foot is very very swollen and bruised . is it normal?
Always best to get it checked out so you get education on timescales, rehab and address concerns. Routine ankle/sprain fractures can still be swollen/stiff for many months even up to a year depending on severity.
Thank you, I had a fracture low on my fibula, im in week 6. Its been ok to walk on around the house a bit in the evenings for the last week or so and doing ok it seem. . My ankle is very soar on the inner part of the ankle joint when I point my toes or try to bend toes up. very limited mobility trying to bend down. Pointing the toes is ok just feel pain in the joint. Is that normal?
@@IslanderloverBKK I pretty much walked home from the field one block away right after the injury, limping of course. I was non weight-bearing for a week on the boot, and weight-bearing afterwards still on the boots. It's 6 weeks now and I have an appointment tomorrow, I hope the x-ray shows healing and I can come off the boot. But I can walk, quietly though and with no pain, I actually feel some pain when I'm resting it.
Most people will have swelling at this stage. My advice to patients around this time is to let pain be their guide. Mild moderate discomfort is ok. Moderate to severe, then take it easier. Everyone’s individual situation will be different.
Weight bearing status will vary depending surgery/site of fracture/consultant instructions etc. Most routine fractures would encourage progressing to full weight bearing around the 6 week mark.
I am now on my 7 weeks of my calcaneus fracture with plate and screw surgery, my back slab cast already removed after 6weeks, I cant still put full load bearing on my foot, only 10 percent of my weight with the crutches support. My ankle is so stiff and painful (i cant fully bend either) any one have this situation, and what next to do? Only my doctor say I will go for theraphy
@@satyanarayanayannamsetti6814 just be strong my dear, it will heal but take some time, I am walking now without crutches, but still not yet 100 percent okay my post calcaneus surgery. I am now in my 5months. Yes I can walk now but still I have some mild pain on and off but tolerable.
I am at week 6 after trimalleolar ankle surgery & no putting weight on my ankle yet without a boot I can just start putting 25% of my weight on it in my boot using crutches 🩼 this week & slowly build up over the next 4 weeks. I am pretty sure it’s different for everybody.
I had the same surgery, ten screws and a plate. Week 7, in boot for 3 more weeks. Everything I researched showed gradual weight bearing but my surgeon said I can do full weight bearing. I’m being more cautious although doing the PT exercises to build muscle back up. I’m no spring chicken but have been very active all my life. Can’t wait to walk normally again. Good luck on your recovery.
Spiral fracture of my fibula & my ankle .. had my surgery & 26 days today .. this week I start PT .. I’m so scared .. .. but I know I gotta start ..😢.. still lots of discomfort.. 😣🩼.. thx for the share
I fractured my right ankle. And i was wondering its 5 days before they remove my boot can i start diong there. Also when i do the toe to heal is it supposed to hurt a bit in the front
Yes man, completely normal. I’m in the same boat! Extremely tight, still swollen and hurts. Gotta a bit of a limp too. It’s normal too be sore in front. Remember that you were in a cast and such, your foot was locked in one position, your joints didn’t move so it is normal for it to be sore!
It's been 8 weeks of my lateral melleolus fracture...i didn't went for a surgery..just kept a cast...i removed it one week back...now swelling n Lil pain while walking and also Lil discomfort is there what to do please suggest
Majority of exercises can be done a few times a day starting with 30secs building up to 1min if tolerated. Isometric holds for 5 secs building up to 30secs as tolerated.
