True! I love MG and Rover and do not understand why you have not been more proud of your cars in UK? Here in Sweden we are still fanatics about Volvo and Saab even if they have been bought by Ford an GM.
Thank you "The Saint"! Are you driving Volvo just like Roger More? It is very strange that even if there is a free market governments, board leaders and unions do not see the issues! The Swedish taxes are so high that there has only been small companies since the 60s and all have been bought by foreigners. Like BMW and Rover. And we know how that goes. Is there any owner of the label Rover or MG? Have a Rover 416 si, much nicer than Honda Civic, and would love to have an other in the future.
No, why should she? By the way, this is my car and yes, she's fantastic. Quite economical for a heavy V8on a longer drive (25mpg), but thirsty round town. Fantastic handling too.
No Josh. It's a 4 speed. No tiptronic over-ride - so it's somewhat dated ( & American belonging to the '80's ) But still delightful & well matched to the 4.6 Mustang. Anyhow I love mine - converted 2 years ago to run on LPG. PRB.
I have had the pleasure of owning a 75 v8. I loved the car, cant say of any downsides to them. I had a manual with l.p.g conversion and would still have it today, but it got hit hard from behind destroying the car. If I can find another v8 manual I wont hesitate to buy again.a all round good car,and so much fun to drive. you never get bored of the look on the faces of subaru drivers as a big old rover leaves them for dead.if you ever get chance to buy one, just do it.you will never regret it.
It’s a shame they never dropped rover and focused on MG as the Chinese did and look at MG now it’s thriving rover dead and buried and where did the work force go all working on the M6
Is MG really thriving? Also Rover isnt dead and buried, Land Rover used to be just the four wheel drive part of Rover. But now Land Rover own Rover and before Covid there was talk of a Road Rover revival. Also many of rovers old models including the 75 are still being made in China under the very cheeky Rowe brand name.
Interesting how Volvo and Rover are essentially direct rivals now... NAC and SAIC owns MG brands. TATA owns the Rover brand. Previously Ford. Possibly to rebadge TATA for Europe(?) or to protect Land Rover brand.
Tata, doesnt own the Rover brand, it's been reunited with Land Rover after BMW broke them up. Tata just bought the manufacturing rights to Rover models, but not the Rover marque.
@@johnbrereton5229 Thats incorrect. The Rover and MG IP (specifically 75 and 25) went to SAIC - we can see this since they produced the Roewe 750. The MG marque and MGF/TF went to NAC who purchased the tooling and built MGTF LE. Subsequently, both companies merged and it is all owned by SAIC. Rover marque and associated trademarks went to JLR and by proxy Tata now 'owns' it in order to prevent misuse of the brand any effects on Land Rover. They have full right to produce new Rover IP if they choose. Interestingly, Triumph (cars) is still owned by BMW.
@@EdgyNumber1 Yes, in fact it's very illuminating that BMW recently re- registered the Triumph car marque, yet there are no signs they ever intend to produce any? Triumph was a major competitor to BMW as was Rover who BMW bought from British Aerospace when they started producing decent cars again and were becoming a threat to BMWs market sector. They then asset stripped Rover before keeping the best bits and breaking Rover into two seperate companies, selling Land Rover for more than they paid for the whole of Rover and LR combined. It seems their re -registration of the Triumph car marque is along the same lines, to stop a resurgent Triumph car brand, perhaps financed by the successful Triumph motorcycles company.
Because lack of funding has strangle car engineering in this country. The management killed build quality (Spen King engineered the SD1 so that even an idiot could build it!), yet there was no quality control programme! The unions killed productivity, the government killed profits - remember taxes during the 60-70 was about 70%!!! British engineers have a way of thinking laterally to get the best results but always get shit on - we get NO respect. The Rover 75 was a great product...
... but eventually the last of the management was so bloody awful. BMW shot the car dead in the water before it was released! Poor management, poor unions, poor investment.. results in poor product and it reflects badly on us..
I cant help but think it was a complete waste of time putting this lazy thirsty v8 engine in the 75. If they had given it a more powerful diesel like the jag V6 it would have had a point and might have sold.
