The Missouri Monster! RE Himalayan with 462cc big bore kit and Tec Cam installed and tuned by an expert. This is what a mechanic does when he gets a Himalayan. Wahoo!
I'm totally stoked about my 21 I just bought from Baxter. It will likely get the TEC cam. The Himalayan is the CR-V of motorcycles I think. Practical, useful, classy.
Excellent info - thank you! I have heard that clutch action can be made lighter by shaking graphite down the cable. Might come in handy with the stronger pull of the built up clutch.
He took this bike to Colorado for several days. Said she ran great at alt. I'll mention the graphite trick to him. Sorry for the very slow response was in Hospital for 9 days, darn deer. Home now. Wahoo!
@@Liam1304 coming around a tight curve with steep sides at dusk and a deer jumped out in front of the motorcycle at the last minute. I had slowed down quite a bit but I was still probably going 40 to 50 miles an hour. I will ride again soon... 90 days from now :-)
@@forgottenmotorcycles Mate that's a good thump you took. No wonder you're having 90 days off. Get well soon brother :) .... but take your time, enjoy the sun and don't hurry. God bless you
I’d do the big bore and cam. I’m a small guy, and with the extra power I think I might actually get in trouble on the himalayan. Lookin forward for the warranty to end so I can start hot roding the himalayan. I love the bike as is, I can only imagine what a big bore and cam and a tune would do. Who knows I might get impatient, I’m already talking myself into it 😂. Awesome video, good to see people do more then just ride these bikes, cool to see the potential of the platform and actually have some good power and performance
Love the stock Himalayan, I have one. The bike is on another level of fun, Crazy fun. It's owner just got back from Colorado with it and said the bike was a bunch of fun up in the tops. I've got to get myself down his way again and see how his tuning has worked with this MoMo. Soon! Sorry for the very slow response was in Hospital for 9 days, darn deer. Home now. Wahoo!
@@deltabluesdavidraye I did the TEC cam and exhaust on my Scram and it definitely makes a difference. At some point I'll mess with the air but at that point Id want to get a fuel controller.
I would wait for the warranty too. Have rode Himalayan with both the Hagon and the YSS suspensions. large improvement with both, more so with the YSS. Sorry for the very slow response was in Hospital for 9 days, darn deer. Home now. Wahoo!
I didn’t wait. I put a cam, exhaust, intake, piggy back ecu, deleted all the emissions crap. I figured for the cost of a new head and all other parts are so damn cheap I probably wouldn’t even file a warranty claim for any engine work anyway and do it myself. A whole new head assembly is less than $300 in the US.
So the Missouri Monster was the bike right? You surely weren't talking about the Bigfoot. Besides in Missouri the Missouri Monster is called Momo. I liked the bike. That's one of the bikes on my short list. At my age I don't have a long list anymore. Take care my friend. Vaughn 🐯
There is a guy in Australia that didi the 650 part but I think he made an interceptor look Himalayan. The bike in this video, with the big bore & cam, really ran hard. Loads of fun. Wahoo!
How is the bike on the highway with the big bore kit and cam? I've been doing several hundred mile trips on the weekend on mine and where I'm at in Texas, even the back roads are 70-75mph and this bike is killing me. I was wondering if putting the money into the kit would be worth it or not if it helped the bike do up to 80mph comfortably.
This is something the owner of that bike and I have talked about. He feels that if he raised the gearing to keep the RPMs low with the extra power he should be able to cruise down the highway at 80. However, I wonder person should get something larger if they need to cruise at 80 miles an hour for long periods of time? My second choice for motorcycles was the KLR. With its larger engine little bit higher gearing might help that bike get better 80 mph motorcycle. Of course you'd lose the Himalayan styling :-)
@@forgottenmotorcycles Yeah, I try to stick to back roads when I'm on a trip, but even the back roads are 70-75mph. I honestly wasn't thinking about the highways when I bought it ;)
I,m runnin the TEC cam on my Himalayan.. For my style of riding the benefits do,nt come until the revs are 4500 and over. which is abit of a letdown.. So for me the 465 kit is the way to go(more bottom end)... I would be interested to know whether you have got rid of all that emission stuff situated under the engine?
All the emission stuff is gone, the air pump, the box, everything. He also has an adjustable ECU that allows him to make custom maps. We are working on a friend to buy the TEC cam for his Himalayan so we can do a comparison. Wahoo!
I have the 462 + HT cam that’s made more for lower torque. It comes it play around 2800 RPM and it good to 5500. Then power goes flat. No gain in top end but acceleration is much better.
@@Mytwistedvoices I think I,ll go down the bigbore route,, but the new 40hp model thats in the pipeline has me thinking ,I could buy a new (40hp) bike or keep my old bike.. My mind changes every day,but today its keep my old girl and get a rebore!!!!
@@lipsee100 remember that’s 40hp at the crank. It’s less at the wheel. For example, the current Himalayan is 24hp at the crank, but the dyno shows 19hp at the wheel. With $1500 in upgrades, the old stock Himalayan can produce up to 30hp. Look for the dyno values when people start testing the bike. I’m pushing 24-25hp max at the wheel. I still have a stock exhaust.
@@Mytwistedvoices All good points,, actually the main reason I,ll probably stick with my old girl is , I like the old fashioned kindof of feel for the bike, and the new bike will most likely be something like a DR400 ( or god forbid something like the SP370 like my brothers got) ,and really do not want to end up with something like that..
@@forgottenmotorcycles You don't have a deer warning sensor?!? Glad you're OK, but think about swapping that useless compass for a deer warning sensor!
We actually talked about this last weekend. It is slightly less but not a significant amount different. This bike and a stock Himalayan were in Colorado a few weeks ago. The roads were rough so the speeds were down and both bikes were averaging sorting in the high 70's to low 80's. I get about 60 mpg here in Iowa on regular roads at regular speeds. Wahoo!
Love the KRL and almost bought one. Think this bike with the big bore & cam will out perform the KLR in a race while feeling lighter. The KLR would be like a mule and this a horse.
Thanks for the input. Deciding weather to get a klr or build my himi. Klr is a great bike and reliable. But as far as comfort, handling and off road capability the himalayan wins.
I think it would. The bike has enough power that the owner is even thinking of gearing it up for more top speed. He's staying in on many long trips already with no trouble.
I did the cam and exhaust on my Scram. Before that it took effort to get to 80mph(on the speedo) and stay there. Now I hit the limiter at 85 constantly. I've even considered adjusting gearing so I can get it a little higher on the top end.
a cat delete with a tuned pipe I think would really make it a totaly different bike with that thumper kit already with a 400 or so bore 40 hp should not be out of reach maybe even 50 hp
