I fitted a TEC cam over a year ago in conjunction with the DNA air filter and inlet. I was much happier overtaking at 60mph /100 kph, I also noticed an improvement in fuel consumption, another benefit was the ability to fit a larger front sprocket which made the bike feel more relaxed. There were no starting problems even in the middle of a UK winter. As for the engine noise, I didn't really notice it over the increased induction roar from the DNA filter and intake, which was quite noticeable. I ran the new cam for 400 miles before starting to up the revs. At the time, in the UK it was £200 which I think was very good value for such worthwhile benefits.
Thanks for this. I just bought a 2022 Himi here in Canada and am seriously thinking of putting in this cam. Still not fully run in the engine though. Enjoying all your videos; very informative and detailed. Treating my Himi like a baby, lol and inspired by your knowledge.
I’ve now fitted both TEC & Himalayan Tools camshafts now and both give the same rattle - probably due to a steeper ‘ramp off’ causing more clatter. My E5 has now done 5K miles on a TEC and runs really well (also with filter/exhaust/iridium plug/fuel x pro). Completely different bike from standard. Also now put 3K miles on an E4 with same set up except with booster plug and just the same in terms of performance. A ‘must do’ mod in my opinion 👍 6:48
Mine was noisy after tec cam and i set the valve clearances to the smallest enfield setting and noise gone. Tec cam suggest you can drop this below enfield minimum setting (drop by another ‘thou’) for even better performance. (Inlet and exhaust). Best mod you can make to himmy.
Yes , I tried dropping the clearances further, but the downside is when the engine warms up instead of freeing up it still stays tight resulting in tighter throttle response.
Great video series on your RE Himalayan. We are trying to get more support for the Himalayan here in the U.S. but, it is seeming to be impossible at the moment. Hopefully, riders such as yourself can get increased awareness and demand for products for the bike that the big manufacturers will start producing goods. Keep up the good work!
Don't know Ben if you will read this or no. A year ago you spoke about ambient sensor location change. But there's no video on that 😢.. can you please help in finding and relocating the Ambient Temperature sensor location in Himalayan BS6. Appreciate your response 🙏
Hi Ben...! Hope you are doing well.. As per your advice I have tightened up the steering stem lock nut.... Now there is no noise up there.. Thanks for that.. But now after doing that the handle moment is bit harder and it's not moving smoothly. I have also checked it by putting my bike on main stand and slowly move the handle bar on both side its not smooth somewhere in between. So what would you suggest? Should I change my conset bearing or I can fix it by some other way. If yes should I go for Conset fix combo from Art of motorcycles... Also for your better understanding I have 2022 himlayan and done only 10,000 km.
Hey Ben, I have been watching your videos from Day 1 you have raised the Bar for every video and all the best for your upcoming videos too.. I have been searching for tec camshaft locally in hyderabad but i couldn't find them, Is there a place or a site where i can purchase it? or should i need to buy it from tec camshaft website and import it from them? Please do suggest it bro and i am looking for your thoughts on upgrading our OG himalyan with Big bore system as well. Do you recommend installing Bigbore 462cc from HitchCock motorcycles or 500cc from NMW racing team? For now i have installed Powertronics ECU + FuelX Pro + BMC Airfilter, Looking this month to upgrade my spark plug with NGK iridium and also looking to upgrade the front chain sprocket to 16 tooth. Looking forward for your response on this comment. All the best for your upcoming videos and looking forward for new videos on new braking system on OG the Himi :)
He wont mate because the difference will be of no beneficial gain. Any benefit of pissing around with your engine like this will be in his head and not the dyno read out
My bike after getting the TEC camshaft fit is making a lot of noise (looks like it is a noise from the tappet) is that ok? Should I make any changes to the valve clearances? P.s: It has only been about 100 km since I installed it (running it within 4000 rpm)
Watch all my videos on TeC camshaft. Valve clearance setting to be done at slightly warm engine . 2-3 mins of idling and then set valve clearance. .08mm inlet , .23 mm exhaust. Get it done by a professional. They do make noise . It will slowly improve with time ( 3-5000 kms ).
Hi Ben, I'm having RE himalyan bs6 I'm getting some noise issues from the front side near or down the meter console I'm exactly not sure where it comes from and it comes frequently on speed breakers and on bad roads Kindly suggest what to check and how to fix it.
I've done over 4000miles on a Tec Cam... it made absolutely no difference what so ever to the noise levels. I keep the valves adjusted periodically just as before. I think you could check your tensioner perhaps.
I can only go by my own experience having fitted it myself, but I stand by what I say. I've had my Himalayan nearly 4 years, so like yourself, not only do I love it, but I like to think I know the bikes nature extremely well...maybe I just got lucky! :)
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN I would say at about 1500 miles if I can remember rightly, I'm not a big mileage user like yourself, so who knows, noise levels may change as time goes by. I have most of the other mods as well, filter exhaust, etc. and she runs great. My only minor complaint is that, "very occasionally" it will hesitate for a split second on the starter if the engine came to rest previously on the wrong part of the stroke. I assume that's due to now having no decompressor... It's extremely rare though. I love the bike and would never upgrade to the 450.
Experienced the same, no difference in cam noise, did about 7k miles, also did not had to adjust lash, I'm alwasy check but not a single adjust since I fitted the cams.
Are these cams available for purchase in india or do i have to order from the uk? Is there any difference between the rec cam and the hitchcocks performance cam?
@@pggp273haha, not really. Actually the tec camshaft changes the power graph itself. It's so well designed that it helps the engine to burn all the fuel inside the combustion chamber.
@@worklada9533 If you have to make ridiculous modifications to your motorcycle to massage your own ego. Please at least buy a quality bit of kit from Hitchcock's rather than this piece of garbage made from putty
@@worklada9533 Yeah right ! Like Royal Enfield hadn't thought of that. It never ceases to amaze me that manufactures spend millions on R&D and some wanker in a shed thinks he knows better. Spoiler alert He doesn't
No because you might actually see some benefit from the Hitchcock's cam rather than any imaginary gain with this piece of garbage. Although I wouldn't recommend either.
What ever you do DONT DO THIS it will be a huge mistake. If the engine was meant to have a camshaft that operated this way RE would have fitted it. If you want a faster motorcycle then buy a faster motorcycle. Don't do shit like this thinking it will make your motorcycle better because it wont. Most of the improvement if any will be in your head because you spent so much time and money you will convince yourself it was worth it. Spoiler Alert Its NOT !
