Royal Purple Smoke Tree, or Smoke Bush (Cotinus coggygria, “Royal Purple”) is a deciduous small tree or shrub that grows to about 12-15’ t and 10-12’ w. It has bright red new growth in the spring with smoke plume flower sprays that range from pink to mauve with tiny flowers. This is an excellent small tree or large shrub for hardiness zones 5 through 9. Very drought tolerant once established and loves full sun to part shade.
