Wow, you weren't kidding about working hard to have this be your part time job. So many videos since the last episode. And including so much content you had to watch and research to put it together and then the editing. Even with these shorter lengths, it feels like you are spending a bit more than just part time weekly to continue this pace.

The Doctor will be left without the TARDIS? Happened in Spearhead, happened in 3rd Doctors run, happened in Parting of the Ways (it goes back to the Tyler estate) and so on, you could be on to something here. And next season, having the Doctor trapped on Earth will help keep the budget down and let RTD make his UNIT spin off show, with the Doctor as a regular guest star for the first year.

Nielsen ratings for US were released. No Doctor Who in the top 10. Which means that Doctor Who streaming numbers are terrible. Same for UK streaming and TV numbers (BBC iPlayer). 3.38 million for E5. That numbers counts ALL streaming and TV views in UK. Also BBC is hiding AI (Audience Appreciation Index) numbers which never happened before (since 2005). Red flags are everywhere.

@kelvinbrooks3785 Let's look at Dot and Bubble... overnight viewing figure: 2.12 million, 7-day figure: 3.38 million. In the article WilliamWho plucked those stories from, RTD actually explains why he chose those five stories: Spearhead: start of the UNIT era, colour, more modern BW/TPOTW: his first finale and has similar vibes TBOSJ: same feel with technology not being used for good and being used by villains in a major capacity AGMGTW: River's reveal of who she is, this is the reveal of who Ruby is TCORR: does it need to be explained?

Well the first special got 7.61 million for 7 day plus devices. Christmas got 7.49 million. So 3.38 million half a year later can not really be just explained by the TV landscape has changed. Even Jody got ten million for her debut just a few years ago. As for it's the wrong time of year, well I would have thought that would have helped. At Christmas there was more choice. Anything new to watch in a quieter part of the year should generate a lot of interest. It's not like people have gone on holiday yet, or the Euro's or Wimbledon has started. Actually next week might get a boost as it's transmitted right before the Euro's.

haters will hate, RTD could produce the best series ever they will still hate add into the mix "We hate Disney", OMG GAY kiss never watching again Capt Jack kissed the Doctor, DT's Doctor got Married to Elizabeth the 1st and her nick name the Virgin Queen he stated in the finale was well basically no more. So the idea the doctor is asexual was broken back then. But the clear Romantic feelings he showed in The Girl in the Fireplace. ncuti gatwa is amazing in this role the Chemistry between him and Millie is the best in years. I think you have been spot on about the S TRIAD for ages, Also The Musical number "There's always a twist in the end" that was blatant about Susan Twist. One of the theories going around in the promo you see a robotic production line Whoever she is, has she captured a TARDIS and used Tech for her company? Bit like the wrist straps Time Agents and River uses. Space babies was weak but watchable the others have been good, I class the last episode as a Run and Romp, I sincerely hope Rogue is back because without going into detail we know the chances of JB returning are Zero. Would that story have even worked with him? one of the theories was Susan being a TARDIS what if Ruby is?

Here in the US, the Nielsen ratings used for tracking shows is horribly outdated. They are stuck in the past of when people watched shows at the time of broadcast which generally only works for their oldest audiences. They contacted me within the last year but were stuck on the idea that I had to be available on my land line (which I only keep for emergencies and have the ringer off) to answer when they wanted to contact me. It doesn't help that I watch almost nothing when it's broadcast, preferring to watch at my convenience and in batches when I don't have other things I want to do.

There's no way that RTD and the team weren't expecting a mixed reaction to this season. The entire format of Doctor Who has been shaken up quite a bit. We are also coming off of the 13th Doctor which was very divisive already for people. These episodes are shorter, and the seasons are shorter. We now are also seeing the show on an entirely different platform. Ratings will change. I don't think it's possible for a show to always be doing the most numbers they ever have. Doctor Who has changed over the years. It will never be what it was back in RTD's original era. This is just a fact. As much as I'd love to return to those days, it's just not possible anymore. TV has changed too much. I think what will really sell the future of Doctor Who are these final two episodes. If they can blow it out of the park, I think it will speak volumes on the future of the series. If it's a flop, who knows what will happen next. Either way, please just give them longer episodes!

I think you are correct that the final two episodes will be the coffin nails. I think it will be impossible, at this point, for them to blow it out of the park for one simple reason; you cannot build a castle on a foundation of sand. The only thing they will have going for them is a hint of nostalgia when they bring whatever surprise in at the end from the 70s, but that won't be enough. The show is about the Doctor and his companion and people DON'T see the Doctor in this guy. I tried. I tried very hard, but with each episode it become clearer that this is NOT the Doctor. The most recent episode with its cosplaying aliens couldn't be a better metaphor. This is bad fan fiction with someone cosplaying as the Doctor.

Of course it could be like it was. By that I mean good writing and well made episodes over all. The funding is wayyy up, so is the promotion. Doctor who is sci-fi and fantastical, sci-fi often works well when the concepts are progressive and new. From the moment doctor who classical first aired up to fairly recently, both drwho and European society have evolved in a more progressive and liberal way. Super important that the show attracts a greater younger audience, during the Capaldi and Whittaker eras, as a younger person, I found it pretty difficult to find anyone around me my age talking about the show but now it's a lot more of a conversation topic. The common thread between all the episodes, RTD listed is they are episodes where The Doctor’s only goal is rescue his companion. You see him in moral dilemmas or sacrifice himself to keep the companion safe. In all of these he succeeds, but at a great cost to him and/or the companion. I think the idea is that this season finale is going to have a similar tone or place 15 in similar situations which will definitely prevent him from being a happy go, lucky adventurer like he so desperately wants. Also one episode has a motorcycle scene and the bells of St. John has the souls of people being trapped in the Internet, which I think they’re going to borrow for the Susan Triad subplot.

How I'm seeing the RTD (What to revisit) List: Spearhead from Space = Something from this story is connected to what's in the the UNIT basement. Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways = Something to do with the TARDIS...Where Rose and Mickey had to force the console open so that Rose could absorb it's energy and return to where the Doctor was, idk. The Bells of Saint John = Like you said, the modern technology angle, OR something to do with the extra regeneration energy that was given to the Doctor through the Crack in time and space...Gallifrey? A Good Man Goes to War = (I'd LOVE a cameo from Dorium Maldovar's Head!) Something to do with Ruby being an orphan and being placed in the Doctor's way for nefarious purposes. Perhaps Ruby was intended to be a weapon against the Doctor. Also, at that time, wasn't Rory the Centurion still made of plastic...maybe someone else isn't what they seem to be ...Ruby not the REAL Ruby, but somewhere else throughout the whole series?

There's no rationalising it away that the show has not brought viewers back, or attracted new ones. If you still enjoy the show, that is entirely your business, and you should enjoy it. The mothership of the Doctor Who Universe deserves a larger season / series. IMHO, I'm not looking for Star Wars, Marvel, Game of Thrones level visual effects. 2025 good SFX are just fine with good storytelling in Doctor Who. It shouldn't be a trade off... What do you think?

okay, I hear you, but counterpoint; Disney+ and BBC IPlayer aren't Netflix. Doctor Who used to consistently break 10 million in an era where _far_ more people watched TV. As has been explained before, with fewer people watching TV now and the show airing in the summer, obviously viewing figures will be lower. And we only have the overnights for last week's episode, so drop the "ooo none of the figures for last week broke 4 million" talk, because you don't know what the 7 day figures for Rogue are.

For a long time Doctor Who has been a show for all ages. Continuing to attract a young audience is important; preferably, without losing the older audience in the process. As a member of the old audience, I’m not yet lost, but I’ve been disappointed by the RTD2 era so far. He’s boldly experimenting with the show, and I suppose he deserves credit for that boldness; but experiments are often unsuccessful. I hope he and the BBC and Disney will be able to learn something useful from these experiments.

6:58 "but that's because no one watches TV anymore" And that's because TV is full of badly written stories which aren't entertaining, educational, or informative. Imagine a TV series where there was a time machine which could travel to any location on Earth at any point in its history. It's pilot would need to be very intelligent and wise and well travelled, and to have lived a long time and have seen almost everything. He would want a companion to travel with him so that they would be in awe at all the famous historical events they would visit in person and then he would vicariously reexperience the sense of awe through their less jaded eyes. The companion would grow fond of the pilot and even fall in love with them, but it would be unrequited as the pilot would know from bitter experience that they always outlived their romantic partners, and it was just easier to pretend to be asexual and shrug off any clumsy attempts they may make at seduction by saying how they were far too old for that silly nonsense. Not even going to alien worlds or the future, but exploring past events would be educational and entertaining. If the studio making it had a costume department it could be used to reduce the costs of production. The time machine need not be a huge UFO sized craft, but could be a box small enough for the pilot and his companion to run inside of, as the inside of the box could be another sound stage entirely which was impressive in scale and futuristic in design and gave a sense of credible power to sell the concept that this machine could travel back through time. By having a reasonably small box, this prop could be disassembled and reconstructed in various locations around the globe which may include moving vehicles like the deck of the Titanic. Should there be some desire to convey some message, or messages, it would be best to spread these as themes throughout the episodes of a season, rather than in forced dialogue admonishments because the latter foregrounds and draws attention to clumsy superficial propaganda. So a theme of sustainability could involve themes about environmental damage, such as visiting Chernobyl before the accident, and then briefly after (like Andrei Tarkovsky's _STALKER_ ), whilst one of inclusion might visit the Stonewall Inn, Greenwich Village in Manhattan in 1969 and show how the Lesbian bouncer there had enough of their persecution by the homophobic police, who routinely arrested those who engaged in cross dressing, this would be the historical context for a story about something relevant to this situation which could be the pilot's companion either being curious to learn how the Gay Rights movement started, or being aloof to their marginalisation in society and the pilot deciding that they needed to be given an education first hand on what this had been like, and then another episode, maybe only once per season would be like this, could be about drowning witches and the theme would be all about hysteria and paranoia combining with dangerous religious fervour that thought the reason why the local midwife had survived the Black Death was because she owned a cat and that was killing the rats which carried the disease, and not because the cat was her "familiar" and her way to access Satan. So, in a way every episode could dispel misunderstandings about what people in the past had thought, and eventually the companion would show signs of her own character arc as she gained some of the wisdom of the pilot and didn't accept what people in a given time and place told her had happened, and eventually she would solve mysteries of her own which were clouded as being about something else as she would have become a sceptic from her experience travelling with the pilot. You could also do stories about people from all countries and (ancient) civilisations, allowing the production team to show the true origins of the Oyo Empire in West Africa. The key point is that a message in a theme conveyed subtly by a compelling story about empathetic characters who aren't directly spouting virtue signalling propanganda is the appropriate way to do this well, and has worked in the past with Hollywood shifting to make lots of War movies in WWII which were pro-America and its allies versus the Nazis and Axis powers. A lot of these were propaganda and not that well written, so we have had this inept messaging before, and the problem isn't messaging, but ineptness. Better writing allows any topic or message to be dealt with.

Still you have to bring people in weekly still to make sure the money you've spent on a show is worth it. I doubt RTD is bringing people in. If they were Disney would be sending out press releases all the time. Yet they haven't said a peep in a while. Still its hard to decided whats a view for a streaming service too. All the vids play one right after the other. So if you watch a movie thats like doctor who it will probably suggest it afterwards and start to play it if you don't stop it.

Making sure you target the under 30s whilst sacrificing your over 30s audience isn't a good strategy either. Unless you are planning on doing the same to your future under 30s (when they become over 30s) as well. In which case .... for the current under 30s enjoy your time because with this mentality they will eventually "show you the door" as well and if you give any sort of positive criticism, you will be labeled a "", as no quarter will be given, no meeting half-way allowed and no honest self-reflection is entertained either just straight up bigotry towards those who aren't zealously enjoying the show as much the current targeted demographic. I miss the times when the show was supposed to have a broad appeal and that would also be reflected in the fandom instead we live in a time when the fandom is split into 2 warring sides. Both constantly spitting vitriolic hatred towards the other whilst simultaneously attacking those in the middle invariably nudging to join one faction or the other. Digital Tribalism at its best.

But there is a very loud part of the fan base, or at least people who make videos about the show, that do display kind of outrageous bigotry, then complain and act like it's insane to accuse them of such. And then I've seen people complain about the end of Dot & Bubble, saying the reveal of them being racist is an attack on these particular fans, but if the show basically just says racists suck, and someone gets offended and think it applies to them, that really is a self report. I saw that particular argument on the Disparu channel. I get a certain amount of enjoyment from the show at the moment, but there's always caveats. Like, I loved 73 Yards, but then can't escape the fact that the story just doesn't make sense and hit the landing. It's all well and good for RTD to give a list of five episodes to rewatch before the finale, but the only one of the five that I have access to is "The Church on Ruby Road." I REMEMBER the others, at least somewhat (Jon Pertwee's first episode was a LONG time ago), but I can't just rewatch them. Are they going to be re-released on Disney+ for the convenience of American viewers? Or on BBCA? If not, I don't see it happening.

I wonder if they are talking about UK ratings, because Disney+ does not release that data to the public

There's something weird about the way Disney places the show on its search results. The three 60th anniversary specials are completely disconnected, both from each other and from the series. If you enter the series page, it starts with Ruby Road -- not even a hint at the very existence of the specials. And the specials are treated as three separate films -- they don't connect with each other to allow for straight-through binge watching. That's puzzling and, in my view, kind of idiotic

Comparing to the 1st seasons of Eccleson and the other modren day Doctors. This has not been a great season. The only episode i did enjoy was 73 Yards.

Me too and that's cos Fruity'a cringy overly camp Doctor was barely in it. It was great up till about the last 2 minutes when he reappeared and his camp over the top acting and delivery just ruined it

By RTD and the BBC saying its been a hit, simply does not make it so. This season has been barely passable drek. It's gotten insistent upon itself. Ncuti is a bit over the top, his over use of the word, babe and babes, is utterly cringe worthy. I would just about rate the season as a whole as a 4/10. I don't think the youth are watching as predicted, it's like your nan over using the word love or dear. Despite this creator's hopeful optimism that is good, I'm sorry but has he actually watched this sloppy wet turd without his rose tinted spec's on. I'm hopeful that the finale will make up for the 'woke' and 'inclusionary' path the show is taking. As for the pensioner's watching, I would guess not, especially episode 2...love why is that man wearing a dress and wants to be called them? I wouldn't be surprised that we never see season 2... and that this is the nail in the coffin of Doctor Who, Or Nurse What. As a lifelong fan, I'm bemused that someone looked at this and said yeah let's go....

Lets be honest- who still binge watches older series on iplayer. When it comes to series- Netflix will drop an entire season of a show and people stream it all in one go. Thats how we view media these days. I think they should have just dropped the whole series on Netflix. It didn't do any harm to the likes of Srranger Things ect.

With respect you are trying too hard to justify what are really damaging viewing figures for DW, given the extra monies thrown at it and a move to a prime Saturday slot in the UK. Simply put the new series is getting little to no traction and you can imagine Disney executives will be taking a hard look at this, wanting a return on their investment. I expect the finale double header will see a modest increase in viewership - if not there will be no third series - but nothing spectacular.

If I were a new viewer on Disney+ I don't think I could make out what was going on with this very episodic show that supposedly has been going on for a very long time even though the main characters just started on it and everyone else other than this one old lady who has a small cameo each show are only in it for a single episode.
