RTX 3070 vs RX 6700 XT - Test in 2022 

this is the comparison ive bene looking for! every one ive found is almost a year old which means comparisons are no longer valid since driver updates have given performance boosts for AMD. Its great to see that in most games the 2 cards are almost identical meaning that buying the 6700xt was the better choice as the 3070 is much more expensive.

Considering price Point, availability and power consumption the 6700xt is a great Card. When you compare to the benchmark tests from a year ago, it is remarkable how the 6700xt was catching up since then.

Great video! I was looking at this exact comparison of GPUs, literally the same models and all. But now I see that my RX6700XT is doing great and that the difference between the RTX 3070 is around -+10FPS in most games. I'll keep my Nitro for a long time.

Thanks for this. I just scored one of these for very near MSRP and was beginning to worry when all of the initial reviews claimed this card was nowhere near a 3070 and more like a 3060 or 3060 ti. Therefore the price of the 6700 XT wasn't justified. This video shows the argument holds no water. The 6700 Xt and 3070 are very comparable. I'll be keeping it and enjoying it for some time to come. But if the price of the 6800 XT falls a bit, I may grab that card.

I wish the big name reviewers would do honest, in-game benchmark reviews of how these two cards have aged since release. I feel a lot of the reviewers, namely ones who use graphs instead of actual in-game performance, not benchmark performance per-se, but actual playing the game, showing us the settings used etc. aren't totally honest. I feel a lot of them tend to recycle benchmarks and add a little here, take a little there, or change in-game settings that favor one card over another. Just speculation of course, but I'm a skeptic when there's no actual video proof of what you claim, not saying names though. I know this much, Nvidia has shown in the past they are willing to cut a reviewer off if they don't review what Nvidia wants them to review, or exposes them for shady practices. Just look at Hardware Unboxed, and HardOCP. Both were cut off from receiving review units, one because he wasn't putting an emphasis on RT performance, and the other because of the GPP fiasco, so it's not uncommon for reviewers to tilt cards in favor of Nvidia, even if the performance margins aren't even great, or even noteworthy. Often times you'll find reviews of the 6700XT w/o SAM enabled, especially in games with great SAM performance, yet reviewers are quick as shit to show you reviews with DLSS enabled. In some benchmarks you'll see that games with RT still aren't really playable at 1440P even with cards like the 3060Ti/3070Ti until you enabled DLSS, Control and CP 2077 are prime example of this as they showcase RT to the fullest and the 3070 can't even do playable framerates until you enable DLSS, and other cases where games go over the 8GB VRAM threshold they'll lower settings just so the 8GB cards can be tested. At the end of the day, I've been compiling data over, probably, 15 or so in-game and graph benchmark reviews, and the 6700XT is literally neck and neck with the 3070, and within 5-10% of the 3070Ti in typical day to day gaming. Reviewers tend to put too much emphasis on RT and DLSS, something Nvidia probably forces them to do, instead of reality, people buy mid-range cards to get the best performance and IQ for their buck and tend to steer away from RT due to the FPS penalty and IQ benefits, especially when you have to use an upscaled image, one that, while good, has shown that it isn't perfect, just to achieve the playable framerates to enable a feature that a lot claim doesn't do a whole lot for them.

I own the RX 6700 XT and am quite satisfied. The only thing that bugs me is the filming, I want the sound recording and what I'm using isn't there.

For AMD, driver 22.2.3 brought major SAM performance improvements for Horizon Zero Dawn

I just traded up to a rx 6600 from a gtx 1650. Huge difference! But I Lowkey want to return it and go for a rx 6700 xt! Prices have gone down considerably and this card seems to be the best bang for your buck right now!

Same price? Get the 3070. 100$+ more difference? Get the 6700 xt (like I did). Imo (even as a 6700 xt owner) nvidia just has better features, most notably the ray tracing performance, but it's not worth a big difference in price like anything over 50$ not worth it

Also what you almost never see in those benchmarks are the power usage - very important if you ask me. Tells you something about how effective AMD is. Imagine overclocking to same power usage and then compare !

noticed your junction temp stayed steady around 60 degrees, my 6700 xt is pushing like 100, what coolers are you using.

I wonder why in Far Cry 6 the RTX 3070 rarely manages to reach 95%, staying mostly between low 90s and high 80% in GPU usage. Anyway seeing their difference in average performance and price (I'm talking about MSRP, please let all that current prices bullshit away) they're both good options. Obviously when DLSS and RT are added to the equation RTX 3070 seems the only option. But in games where those technologies are not an option that RX 6700xt makes me rise an eyebrow.

Was AMD SAM enabled for 6700 xt benchmark?

I was going to buy a rtx 3060 asus TUF, but for just 30 bucks more i get a 6700xt red devil, absolutelly worth it, since i would have to expend at least 100 bucks more to get a rtx 3070.

I am asking myself why everybody make benchmark with intel cpu and amd gpu when they are suppose to be better cpu and gpu amd together? I would like to know if it is better!

For some reason despite the higher fps on the 3070, I can see that the footage is noticeably smoother on the 6700XT. I can see some slight stuttering on the 3070 on some occassions even though it shows higher fps than the 6700XT. Idk if this has to do with the recording method or anything, but I personally would rather have smoother gameplay than slightly higher fps, so my money is on the 6700XT based on this video.

I just recently got a 6700xt but anytime I browsed the web it it had coil whine, scrolling up and down a page made it worse. To top it off when i was playing Bloons 6 it sounded like i had a cicada in the room. I couldn't stand it I'm putting that noisy bugger in its box and it's going right back to where it came from after my RTX 3070 shows up

I have a 6700 XT its a great card and worth buying if you could get it for like $100 cheeper, which from what im saying is still very much the case. Ill prob sell it for a 4070 or 4060 ti unless AMD actually comes out with a good machine learning DLSS alternative, but its been doing me great considering at the time i bought it it was $300 cheaper than even a 3060 ti

buuut, with dlss, fsr and rt on (and some 'green' settings) youll get more fps with better visual quality

if you overclock the rx 6700 xt there is no difference and no fps gain. In these amd cards you only notice the difference by doing undervolt. If you buy an oc version of the 3070 and overclock it, you will notice the fps gain and it will even beat the fps that the 6700 xt gives you. Exactly the same thing happened with the 6600 xt and the 3060, and currently a 3060 12gb oc and a 6600xt are at the same price. Also, whenever I see a comparison of these amd vs nvidia cards it's amd xt versión vs nvidia normal version, when amd xt should be measured against ti versions of nvidia which is its true equivalent and amd is always below in performance of nvidia.

So basically get an RTX 3070 instead.. because it has DLSS, which will knock the 6700 XT out of the competition since it can only do blurry FSR. Edit: Just read up about FSR 2.0 so nevermind. It might be a viable option.
