Just INSTALLING the Nvidia Beta app impacts overall performance by anywhere from 5% - 20% (not even enabling RTX HDR) so until they patch this new software to reduce it's graphical impact, I'm not touching it. I've had friends go from 150 FPS down to 140 FPS after installing the app, and then go down to ~120 FPS once they enable RTX HDR. Nvidia needs to optimize the hell out of it so that it does not reduce frames what-so-ever or at the VERY least we only see a 2% - 5% performance impact.
The rock formation just above the wood crates is darker before and probably crushing shadow detail a bit. Also, the highlight of the torch near the gate looks more blown out in the after picture.
It keeps the same setting you had before even if they were at default so you have to make sure you reset the RTX HDR settings and it will now use the new default values.
"Fixed General Bugs RTX HDR uses saturation and tone curve that matches Gamma 2.0 instead of 2.2 [4514298] RTX Digital Vibrance incorrectly detects Paint app as a supported app [4539617]" They didn't break digital vibrance so that it works incorrectly,they fixed it. It is the same for rtx hdr,they didn't change it to 2.0,it was 2.0 and they fixed it to 2.2
Did you or anyone else end up concluding the new update changed anything? From crawling Reddit, I've heard people say nothing changed, I've heard the gamma changed but Saturation is still too high, and I've heard both gamma and Saturation has been fixed. What is true? I can't change anything once games are runnung and a lot of the sdr games that ran it at first now say not supported. They really need to get the beta sorted and release a stable version. I wish they didn't do this beta, it's pretty dissapointing. I'm using the old nvidea control panel now lol. Got framerates back and the colours and performance are better. I find that sometimes it actually works despite saying that it doesn't. Select another profile without RTX HDR and you can see it disables the effect. That was happening to me in Elden Ring, but I was able to open the Nvidia app while the game was running and change the per-game settings for it, which actually updated the in-game menu even though it was greyed out. A little strange to see Nvidia release such a cool HDR utility, but completely fumble on the UI
I used RTX HDR for days and spent those days trying to figure out why my frame rates are dropping and stuttering and what I found out is that it’s not even up to 20% performance drop but if you’re playing in 4K with a really slow VRAM, that performance drop is up to 60%!!!!! I was consistently reaching 97% usage on GPU at 1440p and after turning it off and turning windows Auto HDR on, it COMPLETELY fixed everything. I was able to play at 4K at only 30% usage. I have 6GB of VRAM so this HDR is only impactful with super high VRAM cards.
Hey plasma i actually ran into an issue with the Nvidia app and RTX HDR. Primarily its their app ( I dont know if fixed yet) I took a performance hit and after turning off RTX HDR. The performance hit was still there. Like i never turned it off. So i had to DDU my driver and then i was back to normal. I am on windows 10, and going to upgrade to windows 11 today. Just watched all of your videos on Auto HDR. I have a 13900K, 4090, LG C2. After getting my C2 back in June, i always felt like my colors washed out. So i want to check out the HDR profiles you recommended. Mainly because Horizon Forbidden West is out and want the best colors.

I wonder if using RTX HDR would help when streaming to Twitch & RU-vid...(to avoid having to fiddle around with converting brightness settings & color mapping) or would the performance drop impact the gameplay to the point of losing matches??🤔🤔🤔
Does RTX HDR implement its own version of DTM? In other words, you would not use the DTM in your TV and let RTX handle it all. Have you tried disabling the TV DTM and see if it looks better?
Does Auto HDR work properly in Vulkan games for you? I found that when I installed the Nvidia App, Auto HDR will not work in Vulkan games, I've changed to prefer the DXGI swapchain, but Auto HDR still won't work in Vulkan games, for OpenGL it works fine. I have to use DDU to completely uninstall everything Nvidia related and then reinstall the GPU drivers to get it to work in Vulkan games.
I cant see any difference, but honestly it would most likely be so subtle relying on visual memory would be unreliable. If it is less saturated maybe they finally made made 0 saturation apply 0 satuation.
Yes, but in this case, if the tone curve is assuming the content is 2.0, it will darken a 2.2 content. Think about it this way, all content is supposed to look correct regardless of the Gamma the developers use, if it is supposed to look correct with Gamma 2.2 it will look darker if you use 2.0

Hi Ariel, man did you find out iphone white balance settings. I really want to match the colors of my iphone screen to my LG C2, i have been trying to match it since December i think already and still i cant. If for example i go to ps remote play on my iPhone and look to my lg c2 at the same time with all of my changing in settings i cant match it.
thx for reply. it helps with overall brightness.. but the ceiling is looking completely different, most details are gone. so the slider is not saving the scene vs sdr. have you tried the cave? this is on a lg45gr95qe.. and native hdr in lies of p do not kill the ceiling. was much better before the update imo
this caused weird issues for me in the past. Disconnecting a monitor from Windows would cause stutters on my main display. Thus, unplugging the cable itself is the safest option @@whiskhot
So Im using ICC 2.2 auto hdr for desktop use and also gaming which leads to black crush in games that have good Hdr like God of war or ff7 remake. So by using Rtx Hdr for those games in previous Nvidia driver also had black crush because it was affected by the 2.2 icc. Does this update actually fix this specific scenario I just described?
Use the HDR calibration app profile. Tge ICC profile I shared is only and exclusively designed to fix originally Gamma 2.2 Games for Auto HDR and SDR HDR
@@gamingwithdummies3960 If you changed the setting globally (for all games) use the restore all in global settings. If you changed settings for individual games,i'm afraid you have to restore for each game individually.
@@kennethwilliams9668 yeah but helldivers has a great HDR implementation??? So I don't see the point in using this which takes fps to give a result that's more than likely not better than native. This is for games without HDR or bad HDR
