I too had to serve lawsuit papers to a defendant. I rang the doorbell to the house. A person opened the door revealing a large group of people of waiting. The person said the person I'm looking for was not there yet and they are all waiting for him to arrive at his surprise birthday party. They asked if I wanted to wait for him along with the rest of them. I said, "No, thank you. I'll wait outside." When he finally walked up the path outside, I discreetly served him right before he entered the house. I walked back to the car waiting for me and told my driver to "floor it".
