Despite the front sights breaking off twice, my CMD is my favorite gun right now. I try to shoot it every time I get out to the range. On the second trip back to the factory for repairs on the front sight, the good folks at Ruger were kind enough to install the fiber optic sights on my gun instead of the regular MIM one. This gun is pretty much perfect in what I want in a 1911 now. Accurate and reliable. Worth every penny.

Bravo. I watched a hundred reviews on this gun because, I was thinking about buying one. Hands down the best review I've seen.. Pick mine up Wednesday. I decided to go w the full sized one instead. It will be my first 1911and I'm super excited to have this gun.

Just picked up my SR1911 CMD a couple weeks ago. Roughly 150 rounds through it with no problems, from brass, steel, and handloads. Semi-wadcutter handloads, even. Have a good one. P.S. Keep an eye out. I'll upload something in the near future as well. See ya!

For those that get this fine firearm be sure to grease the slide for break-in. I started out with lots of FTE because the rails were oiled instead of grease, by the end of 100 rounds it was doing much better.

I've had my full size SR1911 for about a yr now, & I absolutely LOVE IT! I have Drexel polished the lower feed ramp, barrel feed ramp to mirror finish with jeweler's rouge, also the top of the barrel that shows thru the ejection part also, rails also. I haven't nor will I touch the firing mechanism outside of cleaning it. A bit of sharp corner o the lower right of the backstrap, also the knurled hammer edge that I both filed down ever so slightly to ease the sharp edges. Keep your's oiled, clean as your life may depend on it someday. I also carry mine Condition Zero (chambered round, hammer back).

I bought the same pistol a few months ago, it has become my absolute favorite shooter. Great trigger and incredibly accurate. Great review, very informative.

Recently picked up a SR1911 CMD (also have the government model). This 1911 is 95% everything my Colt XSE commander is at 25% less cost. Just an all around terrific pistol and a terrific value.

I am a huge Ruger fan, i own several Ruger firearms..i actually own the very gun in this video..the Ruger SR 45 1911..and its a great gun..Ruger is a great firearms company and they produce quality firearms for fair prices..my only issue with them is..when you spend the $ to buy a Ruger firearm expecially a 1911..i feel you should have a nice case to go with the gun..in conparison to S&W there M&P line gives you a hard shell case when you purchase one of there firearms. i feel Ruger could do the samething..you offer nice guns. give a nice case to go with your firearm.

...picked one up (trade in) at a show in Vero Bch last week for $700 - a two - tone with aluminum receiver...actually a good price for today's market...only things I might change/add is an extended slide stop and an Ed Brown magwell

Chip McCormick makes a 10 round magazine, the magazines fit in the commander the same as a full size 1911...

The Ruger emblem is a Polish eagle, not a phoenix. But Phoenix does sound cooler. One of my sons is going to I bought one at almost exactly the same time several years ago. And after firing them, we immediately changed to a standard frying pan and firing pin spring and found that it shot a bit better. Roughly half the size groups. The titanium frying pan with the extra strong firing pin spring doesn't quite allow the primers to be ignited quite right. Series 80 and things like titanium frying pans and extra strength firing pin Springs Cupid on a 1911 because it doesn't go off when you drop it. There is one mechanism for dropping this firearm in making it go off. 69 ft and it has to fall directly on its muzzle on concrete, not on blacktop not on dirt not on gravel, it has to fall on concrete. At which time you will want it to go off to put you out of your misery if you happen to be carrying it. Considering the bullets only going to impact the concrete I don't know what the issue is. I know this because I know the man who tested him for the United States Army in the mid-60s. The only thing specifically right-handed about the firearm is the thumb safety. I taught my brother who shot competition with 1911's in Texas how to use the trigger finger of his left hand to drop the magazine. Himself to shoot the gun right-handed because he thought it was a right-handed only firearm. Every time I see a full-length guide rod, I have to laugh at the fact that people will spend money on totally useless things for 1911's. 1911 has no need ever for full length guide rod. It accomplishes nothing

Only 200 rounds through my 15yr-old 5" SR1911 and no malfunctions. 1987 200gr handloaded semi-wadcutters, Rem/Win 230gr ball, Win T-Series 230gr normal and +P...no hic-ups. I should shoot it more.

Nice 1911 I want one! I will add that you said the safety when it's off you can rest your thumb. If you look at it I don't think you would want to rest it there why your shooting. That slide will get you.

Nice video. I will add a few things that you could add to your "Part 2". The main spring housing is checkered steel, where many are now plastic like the Kimbers, which are awesome guns, but Ruger did not hold back. The mag. release is an actual "extended mag. release". Also, the barrel and bushing are made form the same piece of steel and they are kept together through the entire manufacturing process. This is supposed to help insure better accuracy. They could have done a little better on the checkering of the grips, but overall, Ruger did an awesome job on their first entry into the 1911 world. I have this same CMD model, and love it. Shoots right with any Kimber I have ever owned as far as accuracy. Wish it had night sights though.

I have the 5" and just now bought the 4-1/4" and have not yet shot it. My 5" shoots as good as my S&W Performance center 1911 and my Springfield Armory TRP. Both cost twice as much but also have mag wells and ambi safteys and front strap stippling and other features. It is hard to beat the ruger for 700.00 bucks, I have nothing but praise for the Ruger customer service.

I had one and sold it. The least accurate handgun I have ever owned. I thought I would love it, but it was awful. At 10 yards could not keep them in a 10" circle. Could take my $300 Bersa and shoot 2" groups with it, and shoot inside of 8" circles at 75 yards with a cheap little .380. Not worth the money at all. I will never buy another. If I have that much money top0 spend again, it will be on a Kimber. Never had one of those let me down.

I actually have very little experience with SIGs 1911's, so can't comment there. Kimbers are good... not up to the hype good... but good. The Ruger is much looser and less refined, trigger is heavier with some grit - but for a range gun or someone's first 1911 it is a very strong value.

This pistol will accept an 8rnd magazine that will fit entirely inside the grip frame. Nothing sticking out. Or you can get magazines with bumpers and only the bumper protrudes.

They need to start putting ambidextrous safeties on those things for left-handed Shooters not everybody's right-handed and who wants to spend $800 for a handgun and then have to take it to a gunsmith to get an ambidextrous safety put on
