You've sold me on the game. I love deck builders & this seems to do just enough to be unique without overcomplicating the game. I look forward to the Beyond the Base Game episode!
Your review helped convince me to pick this game up and I've had an absolute blast with it! It has a lot of depth without having incredibly complex rules, which I think is a hallmark of excellent game design. I have both expansions but I'm going to hold off on adding them until I feel the base game needs some spice.
Rune Stones OR Valley of the Kings Premium Edition? I’m trying to select one of these based upon your reviews of them (2 players). Your reviews are soooo valuable. I’ve gotten hooked on so many games after your review of them. Thank you.
With 2 players. . . . I'm going to say Valley of the Kings - both are fantastic deck builders, both are great at 2, but maybe with some of the Rune Stones it's nice to have that 3rd player in there and sometimes even the fourth one. Valley of the Kings is a bit long with 4 players and caps at 3, but 2 player VotK is nice and quick and tense.
I was looking forward to purchase this game in the next days but at the beginning of the video we talk about a future plan about this? Big Box coming soon maybe? Or what? Couldn't find much on the internet with a quick research. Thanks a lot for the info and kudos :D
It's more that I think they are reprinting it as it wasn't easily available but I'm not aware of any big box being done and I don't think it's even required.
I'm with you mate, I love deckbuilding as a mechanism so I tend to gravitate to those games. I remember when this came out a couple years ago and like you I skipped it. I will have to check it out if I get the opportunity. On a side note I really like Clank! and I love the concept but the deckbuilding is very flat. It has a lot of interesting cards but very few ways to trim your deck to really make the engine you're trying to craft shine. Which is a shame because with more flexibility in the deck building it could be a real gem of a game.
I've never been sold on this game but this was the first video to make me consider it. I'd like to see it hit BGA to try it out. I've added several games to my wish list after playing on BGA as is much rather play them in person... With a beer
Seems like I need to take a look at that game. 2 years ago on a con, it was in my list to have a play. But the gaming tables were crowded all the time, so I wasnt able to. In the end, so far I have seen few reviews with mostly having a good rating...but never great. Even on BGG it's "only" a 7.3 In the past months I have more or less switched to not buying any games without a solo mode because all in all I spend slightly more time on playing solo. Unfortunately, none of the expansions does add a mode.
Ah, I passed on this one because the theme and look did very little for me. It still doesn't excite me, but I love the twist of the deck buikding mechanic. I need to get myself back to a game night to try this out.
It's a toughie. Dale of Merchants has more depth overall when you start throwing in multiple sets, especially the big box with player powers and such. Both are simple games, though Rune is simpler I think because the abilities are easier and not represented by text. But I love them both,
Sounds great but I swore to not support Queen Games. Their attitude as a company (as shown during Kickstarters) is really unbearable. I will never not mention how aloof and arrogant they were during the Kokopelli Kickstarter. Too bad really because similar to this, Kokopelli looked really fun. Thanks for the great review nonetheless!
Wow. I didnt think it was THAT good. But I didnt have any expansions for it. Although I wish I had because the base game is boring and that throne is pointless.
Yeah but can't dock a point for the throne 😁 I didn't find the Base Game boring but if you didn't like it I don't think the expansions will suddenly bring it up for you.
