I still can't believe it... It is impossible... My drum and lyrics guru is dead😥😥😥I cry and I'm in mourning😪😪😪Condolence for the family, friends and all fans of Rush😓😓😓R.I.P Neil... My Brother🧡🧡🧡
Your Guru has merely returned home to the Master of Masters! Professor... Come back to us and may you carry with you that precious thread of your soul so that when you play and compose that we who await you will have no doubt of your identity. He will return to us... such a gift of truth cannot remain covered forever, rather it is destined to return... God bless you Neil, can't wait to have you back!!!
@@williamhommel4252 Eternally sad and true, But Neil, Alex and Geddy left us a catalog of some of the most extraordinary performances, recorded and live that I have ever experienced - I've seen them 20 plus times. They and their music carried me through a couple of tough times (big lyrics credit to the Professor - Neil ) more than any other artist/musician/group in the last 50 years. So though our poet is gone his works remain. And every opportunity I get to transport myself back the some part of a Rush concert reminds me of how lucky I was to have experienced the joy they gave me and others. Cheers. Here's to everyone's hero...The greatest drummer/lyricist ever and his cohorts, three pretty cool guys from Toronto, Ontario who just wanted to make music. Long Live Rush !
"Hero is the voice of reason against the howling mob, hero is the pride of purpose in the unrewarding job." Those lyrics are among my favorite in any song ever written.
Such a sad beautiful song. I tear up because of my ignorance in my younger years. I learned the price of my phobia oh too late. But at least I learned and changed my heart
What a fool I used to be. The truest lyrics Neil said he ever wrote. When we are young, we think we know everything when we really know virtually nothing. I look back on what I used to be and I say the same thing too. What a fool I used to be. If you haven't read Ghost Rider travels along the healing road I highly recommend it.
@@brianmalaquias9425 The song is about people who are True heroes and don't get the recognition they deserve, not about homophobia like most people think it is.
How can Rush affect me so deeply? Since I was a kid, I have listened to this band. Words just cannot describe how important all of this music is to me.
Although I have been a Rush fan since 1979 and have a lot of their records on vinyl as well as lots of CD's. For some bizarre reason I missed Counterparts completely until very recently. Now I honestly think it is one of their best albums. It is a clean rock sound and some superb tracks with sublime lyrics such as on this track. Walking through the countryside with this in ear buds, life does not get much better. Neil was everybody's hero. Thank you Neil RIP.
The line 'As the years went by we drifted apart, when I heard that he/she was gone I felt a shadow across my heart' brings a chill all over my body. Maybe the most emotive line that Geddy has sung.
The shot where you see Alex pressing a synth pedal, sing into the mic and out comes a harmony of Ged's voice - the cameraman / editor just solved a great mystery!
In Martin Popoff's Rush: Album by Album, Chris Irwin said, "Yes, there's the reference to the Paul Bernardo murders. Kristian French was one of Paul Bernardo's victims, and she was the stepsister of Brad French, who is Neil's lifelong best friend. And that's why I didn't know the girl, but I knew her family. And I think, in fact, Brad and Neil are second cousins. And it's a complicated point, but I think he's saying just because somebody is a victim, don't glorify that. You should basically think about the person that they were, rather than the fate that befell them. And then elsewhere, Neil's getting across the idea that a proper hero is somebody who does a great thing like lands a crippled airplane or solves a mystery or cures a disease, that sort of thing, rather than sports stars or movie stars."
This adds to the complexity of the song. I must admit when I first heard the song I thought it was lacking and beneath Rush, but as time has moved on it is one of their highlights from their 90s era
pride of purpose in the unrewarding job.... that's the stuff that makes you think fxck this guy was gifted to show that kind of empathy through a rock and roll song lyric?
Man...brings tears to my eyes...this...brothers in arms.dire straits.and time from pink floyd. Those three are an emotional gut wrencher for me...all for different reasons.
The boys sound amazing and Geddy's voice outstanding. Proud to say they're Canadian! Been a rush fan since '77 and by far my favourite band. Thanks for the memories!
I think the only Rush song that ever moved me to tears. Love this song and the album...a real turning point for them as they rediscovered their roots. IMHO
I found out today the loss of a dear friend. I immediately thought of this song and came here to play it in her honor as I felt her shadow cross my heart. Rip To Linda Jean Skay from the milky way she was Here to put a bright spot in your day.
This is prime live rush by the way.... Wow, they were so incredible. Also the bass lick at 1:55 is one of my favorite of their entire discography. I don't know why but it's just a perfect fill and I adore it
I absolutely love this song. It's a great example of Rush's humanistic vision. What other band had lyrics that expressed such relevant themes with such compassion?
I play 22 Rush songs on guitar and I still wonder at their mastery. They took me to a new level, and they have earned every ounce of praise. Well done Rush and crew...
I love life for such a very rare moments when you've hear song once time and it grips tight your heart and you can listen it on repeat again and again. Thank you the Rush band, which i've never heard before that moment.
I played this song for my girlfriend in my bedroom. We sat there listening, our eyes caught each other. I went in for the kill. She entertained my kiss with hers. We have been married for 12 years now. Love you, baby babe!
I don't understand why this great song is not part of their R40 set list. Too bad. Is this jewel causes a problem to the band or maybe Geddy can't go that high at the end ??
+Nibb9 As great as it is, It's in my top 5 easily, when they played it live many people filed out to go get beer and piss. Plain and simple, they see that from the stage. I think the first part just did not appeal to simple minded people that resent gays. They started playing "The Pass" which is not nearly as touching.
Ben Farrel, Yes she was killed in 1997, and his wife was lost to cancer a year later. I only noticed recently that they don't play any "Test for Echo" songs anymore, probably because they only bring bad memories back to Neil. They played "Resist" and "Driven" on the Vapor trails tour in 2002, and played "Resist" again on the R30 Tour. But besides that they've never performed a single song from that album since.
nobody hero , that is one song that motivate the life and day by day to live with some strogle of living life today and making believe in our selves you impirated by this song
What saddens me most was this video was filmed only six weeks before Neil lost his daughter. Not long after that he lost his wife to cancer. Now Neil is gone. I pray they are all reunited.
