Let me correct your wonderful speech about Russian unknown food. Russian soda is not a soda water at all, it’s sweet drink, based on some grass or fruit that was carbon detoxified. It’s natural drink. As to Kissel, it’s no jelly, it is made if fruit juce, boiled with cornstarch . It’s also natural health food and it’s good for poor stomach. They put bear in a bag not to show your drink outside. Because there’s a law that you can’ drink alcohol outside in public place .

I’m Romanian, so like stuff like Compot can be found in our shops, or people do actually make them at home, tons of them actually!

Fermented milk products are so healthy. Kefir is like buttermilk and that type of cottage cheese is called curd cheese.

Zefir (зефир) is very soft. It is a Russian version of marshmallow, but usually made with apple sauce, so it has a little different taste from a regular marshmallow. You are confusing zefir with meringue, which is called bezé (безе) in Russian. It looks similar to zefir but unlike zefir bezé is dry.

Idk buddy but mangos and avocados are supposed to be sold rock hard so that they don't go soft and rot in 2 to 3 days of being ripe. Not true, you can close those jars of juice - every russian home has nylon(plastic) caps that snaps perfectly to that jar. Also Tarfun and Dushes - are the best soda I ever tried, I also like kvas. Kisel is not "jelled juice" Its juice with starch - very good for little kids and for adults with health problem, very soft on your stomach. Pryanik is not cracker - its a Ginger bread. Tvorog is not Cottage cheese - its a farmers cheese that you can buy in US. What you called a "baby food" its just what we call in US an Apple sauce. And the preserved meat - its actually my favorite - its like a stewed meat that you can add to Kasha, or soup, or veggies and have a fast ready dish (I love it because I don't like to wait to hours until stewed meat get ready). You comment about bacon is been just smoked and not cooked is funny - what kind of bacon do you think you are getting in US - surprise - its also just smoked!! The cooked one you will get only in fast food restaurant. Regardless avocado and mango - you act like in US they sell them supersoft, they are also sell them hard as a rock in supermarket and you have to wait a week until they are ready to eat. Regarding Lays сheeps - I can tell you that every country has its own flavors, for example in Turkey there was Lays with yogurt, and some other flavors that I've never seen before.

Zephyr isn't really hard. You probably confused it with beze which looks exactly the same but but is very hard and becomes sand when you bite (i hate it).

Kissel has no jello - it contains starch... So you drink and eat at the same time...:-) And chak-chak is not cashews - those are zigzagging pastries with honey... There are no cashews growing in Russia, and this is a national dessert of Tatarstan.

Shoot… I moved to the USA from Russia 20 years ago and I miss all these Russian foods so much. There’s so much variety of different foods and flavors in Russia. American supermarkets are super boring. But lots of what was shown is not originally Russian but from all different neighboring countries and cuisines. It’s just for the last 1000 years Russians adopted so much from all over the world. Missing it…

Kompot usually produced from fruits without alchohol and many many people doing in at home from natural fruits(many people have summer houses which we call "Dacha"-its garden with summer house , Russian Sauna-Banya and the place for grilling meat). So you can be sure that its 100% natural. Its fruits+sugar,boiled. For many people its tasty and every family have own recipe(different mixes of fruits,different quanity of sugar etc). Its quite healthy if you not put too much sugar in it. I never tried Kompot from supermarket and i hope that i will not.

And Russian woman all make vegetables and fruit cans at home and it’s not “to survive “ but because it’s tasty and we have plenty of tasty recipes to make. It’s kind of prepared vegetables for fast food at home. And most of the families have country houses where we grow eco fruit and vegetables, so we need to keep them somehow. And your girlfriend must be from very poor family if she say so about her grandma’s canning. We also make salt vegetables and they’re very tasty but it should be stored in low temperature as they are made with lactobacillus ‘ help. That cans in the store is for poor people who don’t do canning at home or for lonely men who can’t do that. as that canned vegetables are not tasty.

We CAN seal our jars, we have flexible plastic caps that can be used for years, my mum still keeps them in the kitchen drawer, I prefer to buy smaller jars I can finish in several days. Zephyr should be on the softer side, think of souffle with a crispy crust and is made of mashed apples, thry are boiled and whipped till they become white. Eggplant "caviar" is orange because it also contains carrots, tomato sauce and oil. You found one brand of mouthwash that is literally called Forest balsam that specialises on "foresty" flavours, check any other brand - and you can find all kinds of minty fresh ones. I'm too lazy to write everything I disagree with you on coz it would literally take forever. I'm very sad that there are people who would watch this video and believe everything you say 😢

We are Armenians and we eat almost everything russians eat like in russian xавиар its the same խավիար or we Armenians every autumn are making компот aka կամպոտ and we put it in our basement ao we can eat and drink it in winter and Spring😮😂

These 3-liter jars of juice (as well as smaller ones with meat or any other stuff sealed like that) can be closed after opening. There are special reusable plastic caps designed for this type of jar neck, which are sold separately. Soviet-style eco-friendly package, especially keeping in mind that empty jars could be returned for recycling or used for home-made preservations.

At 5:40 there are plastic or rubber lids or caps sold in most places to close jars. Most jars have same diameter of the lid in Russia. That helps prolonging expiration of the product once airtight lid is open

Sea buckthorn berry flavoured things are also quite common in Finland. We also have those un-flavoured circle-shaped cracker things here. Halva originates from Iran, but it's common in many middle eastern countries, Greece, India, and Dijibouti. You can find vegan "caviar" in the US. Mangos and avocados and such are often stored in the cold, or else they get too ripe too fast. Green grapefruit is a thing. We also have sauna aisles in our big stores in Finland, because saunas are a big part of our culture (in fact, I just came out of the sauna like 2 hours ago).

I love grocery shopping! Look like their stuff still pretty cheap despite of the sanction. Anyway, I hope to go there again and shop again!! I can stay there whole day!!

canned meat is not for poor people and it's really tasty. It's really used as a food for hitch hikers, because it's preserved in the way, that it will not get spoiled until you open it and it's really tasty, but, of course, you can eat it at home. I really like it. "Tushonka" is translated as stew to english.

What a selection ,here in Canada we have not much selection of anything and everything is so expansive !

It's so nice to see that they still use glass bottles for the soda in Russia. I live in Norway and everything is in plastic bottles here except for beer. But I am old enough to remember when everything was glass before all this plastic shit came and ruined it all. We had beer in plastic bottles for a while but they never sold because the plastic ruined the beer flavor.

Soviets had a separate sign for goods named "Знак качества/Quality Mark": pentagon with a star inside. It's widely used by marketers even now addressing those who misses USSR :)

Kissel is a Russian smoothie that is centuries old. As a flavor base, local berries are used - cranberries, cherries, currants, etc. and fruits - apples, pears, etc. That is, what grows in Russia. But you can make kissel from the exotic. American smoothies are thickened with either a banana or oatmeal - Russian jelly is thickened with starch (potato or corn). In both cases, thickening occurs with starch, but bananas do not grow in Russia. Because of the thickener, the American smoothie is opaque. Russian kissel is always transparent (but colored because of the berries). A smoothie requires a chopping mechanism (mixer, blender) - Russian kissel is made without sophisticated equipment, just a saucepan and a stove (fire). It's hot in America, so smoothies are made cold. It is cold in Russia, so kissel is usually served hot or warm (it is not so tasty cold). By changing the amount of starch, Russian kissel can be very liquid or thicker. This allows you to use it both for drinking and as a gravy for pancakes, cheesecakes or other dishes. The calorie content of kissel is from 75 to 350 kilocalories per 100 gr. Kefir is quite popular in US, usually sold under the Lifeway brand; and the 'cottage cheese' you mentioned is what you can find here in most grocery stores as 'farmers cheese', look in the refrigerator section
