I have used the same vice for the past 25 years and it is very good. Would recommend bolting it down to the bench and it becomes a third hand and extremely stable with the back jaw in line with the bench edge to allow long items to be held. As an ex Sheffield lad I used to work about 100 yards from where it was made. Hammerite Blue is not exactly the same as Roundell Blue used by Record but it is a really good substitute. Enjoyed the restoration enormously and very happy to subscribe.

Just a tip- For the sliding pads and rails, don't use grease. It picks up too much dirt/debris. Get a carpenters pencil and scribble all over them. The dry graphite is a great lubricant but won't trap swarf/dirt.

That’s a heck of a set up you’ve got for removing rust, I’m going to head down HTR road. Nice seeing it being disassembled, helps me out immensely. Don’t worry about not talking, I don’t mind, there could be plenty of reasons why you don’t talk, at least there’s none of that on a loop Muzak. Oh, and lay off the grease, keep it well oiled, the oil will lubricate and help wash away swarf, or dry ptfe spray. Thanks for the upload.

It’s rusty, but in pretty good shape when you look at the jaws. Doesn’t look like it was used that much; it just sat. Nice work! Looks good again.

Great job cleaning it up. Good looking vice for light to medium work.

The screw heads are not deep enough under the surface of the jaws. Inside, not all painted. All in all a job well done.

a great pearl in the rust...people still ignore these any buy a new cheap one...these are real and last a lifetime, i rescued a record vice 30 years ago, it was at least 30 years old then, still use it every day

I am ex Sheffield and I have used the same vice for the past 25 years and it has never let me down. The Hammerite Blue is pretty close to Record roundell blue.

Excellent restoration! I love some of your nifty techniques: e.g. electrolysis and filing masking tape at the corners. From my limited experience, meths is better than white spirit for degreasing - it evaporates faster and probably dissolves more oil fractions - but white spirit must have worked sufficiently for that Hammerite. You are very confident with grinding - those bare hands!

A brilliant restoration all the way through, everything was spot on. Great colour match with the original! I once restored a Record #5 plane and used a spray, it came out Man City blue. A fantastic video and subscribed.

What does the"1 ton" stand for? I like that you made a front thrust washer spacer. I subbed because of that

Just gonna say it. That vise is basically brand new. Looks like someone just knocked some of the paint off and sprayed it with vinegar. This wasn't a restoration. It was a paint job.

I think you got the lucky straw on that vise. It seems to only looked old, but not horribly pitted like some I have seen. Good job!
