For me its so cool that salem the bad guy of the series was talking about hope and how it unites people on the first episode of rwby and now we had ozpin a good guy talk about fear and how it could drive people away

One interesting thing you might notice is that when we last saw Cinder's Grimm arm, it was covering up to her elbow, but in this episode, it's spread up to her shoulder impying that it's slowly taking over her body in response to her negative emotions

"Can you imagine if we watched this and there was no Volume 8 yet?" Oh, they're not ready for the end of Volume 8

So on the "Penny doesn't grow old" there's a long running theory that the whole reason Ironwood approved the Penny project is that he wanted to build a winter maiden that would always obey his orders and never die. Back in V2 before we found out the underlying story Penny was already saying that she was being trained to "save the world" and when Ruby says "but we're at peace" then Penny says that "that's not what General Ironwood says. Basically there is a STRONG undercurrent that the whole project that created Penny got Ironwood's backing because he wanted an eternal Winter Maiden (or possibly 4 eternal maidens).

The end credits song for this volume, 'Fear,' is such a banger. So retroactively jealous that y'all get to start Vol 8 right away too, that's so good after this episode.

At this rate its looking like you guys are gonna be waiting for Vol 9 with the rest of us xdxd

I believe Winter saying to Weiss "What did you do?" is referring to why Weiss and her team are wanted, remember Winter wasn't in the office with Ironwood an the AceOps :) she just knows that they are wanted.

Ozpins speech at the end is in my top 3 rwby moments of all time. Such a great scene.

This is one of the few shows that gets better when you rewatch. At first, the fights can seem too short, but they're very realistic for the world. And the characters and emotions and story can seem lackluster, but I think that's because it's intended to be in depth, not dramatized like most shows.

Out of of all the Volume finale songs, Fear is my favorite one. My second favorite is Sacrifice.

Cinder has displayed her power to fly quite a lot throughout the series so far. It began in the Volume 3 finale when she defeated and killed Ozpin in a duel in the Vault of the Fall Maiden. After reducing Ozpin to ashes, Cinder, with jets of flames spewing from her hands, then flew up the elevator shaft from the Vault all the way up to the top of Beacon Tower to destroy it, blasting straight through the elevator itself on the way. Then, in the final battle where she toyed with and killed Pyrrha, Cinder was floating and flying for much of the time, using Pyrrha as a guinea pig to test her newfound magic powers on. Cinder also flew and floated during her battle with the current Spring Maiden, Raven Branwen.

Ozpin's monologue about fear is possibly the best writing _RWBY_ has ever had.

21:33 the beauty of this scene is that Ruby doesn't cajole Penny to come, and Winter doesn't order her to stay.....they both respect Penny enough to let her make her own choice.

Neo is back on form, and after six frickin' volumes, Cinder *finally* gives a *hint* of her motivations. Brava Jessica, for her performance in this chapter. Poor Oscar, but Ren... someone has to tell him what Picard told Data, it's possible to make no mistakes and still lose. Penny's still a 'bot, but she has aura, so she can maiden. However messed up Winter is, she *does* look great with her hair down! Certainly one of the better finales, despite how we got here. That soundtrack... I think by this point, Jeff was working with someone else to share the load... Alex Abraham, that's his name.

Oz's cane storing energy that can be turned into magic power is one of the best designs I think. His long life allows him to carry that thing through the ages charging power into it with every movement. 10/10 weapon design

To be fair, it's not as though Cinder couldn't have done what Neo did herself; I mean, Cinder easily got in and out of Ironwood's office - one of if not the most secure places in all of Atlas - undetected, and was also shown to be able to walk freely throughout Atlas Academy without being detected, since we see her smiling down from a high window in the Academy as she manipulates Ironwood and Winter into leading her straight to the Winter Maiden. It just so happened that Cinder wanted to get the Winter Maiden powers as well, and couldn't be in two places at once, which was why she had Neo fetch it instead. Neo did retrieve the Relic for her, and she should get credit for that, but it was still all Cinder's plan, and therefore Cinder technically *_did_* take the Relic from right under Ironwood's nose as she said - exactly *_how_* she did it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Had there not been a Seasonal Maiden to take the power of, Cinder could have handled it on her own.

0:57 *_"The Enemy of Trust is... Cinder?"_* Actually, yes, from a certain point of view. It was after all Cinder who instilled fear into Ironwood and everyone else and caused everything to break down by planting her Black Queen calling card in his office.

Just to clarify, the whole volume 8 happens only in a timeline of 2 days in Remnant.

Yeah, that's one thing I've never been able to figure out. How it is that Cinder can just watch them enter a building and yet know exactly what floor and room they went to. Also, how she is able to get so far through the building before any alarms are sounded, is beyond me. Especially a building as big as the one they're in. I just have to put it down to your basic tv show trope, as things happen like this in movies and tv series all the time. Otherwise they can't figure out how to get the show to get the "bad guys" and the "good guys" to where they need to be and when.

when I talk to people about this series everyone is disappointed with the first season but dude, good things take time and I never thought I'd see something as good as this

Fun fact, Fria is based on the Blue fairy from Pinocchio, and by her giving the maiden powers to Penny its like she truly believed she was more than just a robot, just like how in that movie/story the blue fairy turns Pinocchio into a human from a puppet.

They're in for a WHALE of a time.... heh. Also, receiving the maiden powers didnt make Penny squishy human, she already had a human soul/aura which is what the power works off of in the transfer (i believe, not 100% sure)

Cinder's Grimm arm gives her the power to steal Maiden powers, so that was her plan about getting the WM's power.

Penny's aura is a part of Pietro's. A human. Her core amplifies that aura and because aura comes from the soul, it essentially backtrace it so her own soul forms. Magic latches onto a person's soul and so Penny was able to get maiden powers. 2 years I thought about this

So before i get into the fun facts, i think its time to tell you about Ironwood's Semblance. And no its not a spoiler because it is never brought up in the series and the writers told the audience about it after Volume 7 ended. So i think its a good time to tell you since it will help you understand Ironwood's decision making in the next volume. His Semblance is called Mettle. It strengthened his resolve which allowed him to carry through with his decisions, helping him hyper-focus. As Mettle was a passive Semblance, it was often active in the background of scenes, steering Ironwood in one direction and helping lessen the burden of the consequences of his actions on his psyche. If anything got in the way of his goals, he swiftly took actions to eliminate the variables from the equation. However, this had the consequence of feeding into his paranoia, making him unlikely to trust even those closest to him, even if they had his best interests at heart. There's a subtle hint when its active by his eyes glowing blue at times. Anyway thought you should know. Now Fun Facts! Fact 1: Unlike previous finales, this episode did not have a post-credits scene. This is because the crew wanted to focus their efforts on the episodes themselves and avoid going into "crunch time" to spare the animators from being overworked. In lieu of a post-credits scene, a tribute to RWBY creator Monty Oum was used instead, as the episode aired on the fifth anniversary since the day of his passing. Fact 2: The episode title alludes to the emotion of Fear. Fact 3: Ozpin makes his return after hearing Oscar's words to Ironwood, finding the bravery to come back. Fact 4: One idea the crew had for the battle between Penny, Winter, and Cinder would have shown Cinder using her Maiden powers to bring the fallen AK-200s back to life to face Penny, as a puppet joke. Instead, it was changed so that she would break through the walls when she found them. Fact 5: In one script, one of the Aura transfer machine pods was going to be broken, with the one with Fria being intact. But because Penny is a robot, she could 'remote-interface in' and get the powers. But that still felt like stealing, and they didn't want to go that route. Furthermore, the crew had a lot of talks about how the Maiden powers would be transferred. They debated if Penny would have to kill Fria. Fact 6: In the episode, Ironwood was still expecting Oz to appear, waiting for guidance. The scene where he argues with Oscar was the final scene they wrote this episode. Fact 7: Miles Luna cried during the voice over session for Fria's scenes for the episode. Fact 8: There was one line in Ozpin's monologue that the writers were struggling with for a whole day. Fact 9: The writers loved the idea of ending the Volume on an almost identical shot from where they started.

The major factor for the abrupt swing of Ironwood from ally to villain is his semblance. It helps him stay resolute in his convictions and decisions. But it also can cause major tunnel vision.

Ironwood is trying to save humanity, while team RWBY is trying to save a half of a city (some people were already evaquated from Mantle).

24:14 if you can believe it, there's a sizeable contingent of RWBY fandom with the opposite view on the show. To them, this stuff you're watching right now represents a huge downgrade from the "pinnacle" of RWBY, Volumes 1-3.

Poor James. He woke up with a plan to defeat salem, an awesome team, and a cool city. He ends the season with no team, a bad arm, salem on the doorstep and invincible, his city under attack, and to top it all off he learns that the cool team he liked has been lying to him since day one. Can anyone honestly tell me they wouldn't get snappy too?
