In preparation for the new wheels and future square set-up I had a few other suspension parts that need installing. Since the wheels may not be here for a while I want to get the alignment done to be able to drive the car in the interim.

The anti-seize is supposed to be applied around the collars to prevent galling-not just on the threads of the subframe bolts.

Well shoot... I guess the car is ruined.

Obsessed Garage I have seen it done with and without the copper grease around the collars and have yet to hear of any issues as a direct result of omitting it. I installed these myself on my AP2 so I definitely “obsessed” over it by doing extensive research beforehand. Someone on S2KI had the instructions (loosely) translated to English by a family friend who indicated the grease is to be applied to the top and bottom bases of the collars. When I received the instructions in the box, I used Google Translate which seemed to mention the same thing. In any case, no big deal. I ordered my collars from RHDJapan and it didn’t even come with the tube of grease! I had to same-day deliver some Permatex from Amazon...

I’m about to make same comment lol. You want subframe bolts tight and you don’t want collars stuck with subframe because aluminum and steel.

only about $200 parts , it's not too late to redo if you're worried. you can light spray penetrating fluid like royal purple max film every year and you're good to go without replacement as alternative.

The collar lube won't be an issue unless you are always in the wet or salt. Corrosion between steel and aluminum will happen regardless of whether you put lube on it or not. Was the alignment range more even after?
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
Yes it was more even.

That’s exactly what I was about to ask, I have an ap2 with rear right toe maxed out, alignment shop frame is slightly bent from manufacture it’s what I was told by alignment dude, luckily I found this video so now I can give these rigid collars a try and dial in my alignment fingers crossed 🤞 if that doesn’t work then I guess I’ll have to do what the alignment shop recommended in which I didn’t agree with, to install camber kit and adjustable toe kit (MY S2k IS STOCK SUSPENSION AND STOCK WHEELS) 🤔, but I’m definitely looking for an alignment shop for second opinion, I’m new to Lakeland-Tampa, FL area…

The anti seize goes on the bottom and top of the rigid collars too.

Best torque wrenches I have both the 1/2 and 3/8 about 1100 dollars. Big improvement from the last digital torque wrench Snap On made

Both super solid dudes. I'm out scouring the world for certain types of people to include in this Obsessed Garage thing. I keep trusting my barometer: "What do I want to watch or listen?"

Uhm... I was sure he was supposed to place the japanese antiseize on the colors themselves i remember reading this and looking at spoon's video on this i believe and its because if you don't do it, the dissimilar metal could cause galvanic corrosion. Wait, i believe i remember i believe his name is rob from GTchannel do this on a s2000

the sticker says "Riji kara" - rigid collar , which is the name of the brand. I think spoon distributes them or just rebrands them www.rigidcollar.jp/

Im waiting for your review for the rigid collar, please try to be objective, i put these on my AP1 in rear but changed the rear tyres as well, the car felt really different, but can't be sure if its the tyres only or the tyres + rigid collar, the feeling is that the whole is much more rigid at the limit of the tyres adhesion.... very strange feeling but nice as well
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
There is not much to review. They keep the subframe aligned. I think people are nuts if they say they can "feel" a difference.
@Fizz826

I just got the Rigid Collars installed on my AP2 today. I kind of agree with what you’re describing. I never use to hear noise coming out of my tires while turning at high speed but now I do. I think without the collars there’re slight movements of the body over the subframe when turning. I also feel that the car is different over bumps. I think the collars allow the tires to work at its 100% and the suspension work at its 100% without anything loose (or have potential to vibrate and shift) above them. The tires I have are POTENZA RE-71s. I bought these from Mr. Ichishima at Spoon in Ogikubo when I visited them in May and he did say a sensitive person can definitely feel the difference.

Although I would always add anti-seize to bolts, it does change the clamping force on the threads, meaning factory torques will not be correct. I'm such a douchebag 👍

Spending more time modding it than driving it...truly Obsessed. Your addiction is unhealthy, you should probably sell it (to me). After you're done modding it of course.

I don't know why the S2000 didn't come shipped with rigid collars from the factory.
@Fizz826
@Fizz826 5 лет назад
ayowser01 At any factory that mass produces vehicles, the engine and major suspension components are mounted on the subframe, then lifted to be assemble to the body. The car bodies are suspended and swinging as it moves thru the production line. Car manufacturers around the world design the bolt holes used to hold the body and subframe together with considerable tolerance. If these were to be installed on the assembly line, it would greatly increase the time of assembly because it’d require a much more expensive and precise robot (or even a human perhaps) at that juncture of the production line, therefore it wouldn’t be cost effective.
