Truly enjoy your videos, thank you. What quiver do you use?

Nice demonstration. The only thing I really don't agree with is that you said gap shooters use a straight draw in order to site off the arrow tip. You can't site off the tip before or during the draw, only at full draw. So it really doesn't matter how you draw in order to aim gap method. Recurves with big heavy risers are more conducive to a straight draw while light-in-the-hand longbows are easier to swing draw.

awesome video, but I have a question. what about a draw that you bring the bow high and as you come back down you draw. it tends to favor instinctive archers like myself but do you have and opinions on it

How do you know you are using the right muscles (back instead of arm) with the straight draw?

I have the issue with the collapsing shoulder/elbow. I straight draw because I gap shoot but I'm not that strong. I used to be able to shoot with a straight arm and low shoulder however when I got better and changed to gap method, it seems to be an issue I can't fix now (collapsing arm). This is making my shots inconsistent (draw length). I will try the swing draw again and the hybrid method and see how that goes.

What is your opinion on starting the draw horizontally above the shoulder?

Jesse Ang Jesse - I have never tried it, so I cannot comment with any kind of credibility. But, I would say I don't like the "idea" of it, as it is like "sky-drawing" in compound shooting, and it puts a lot of pressure on the bow-arm shoulder, which could lead to it collapsing. Sorry I cannot comment beyond that, but I don't have any experience with sky-drawing a trad bow.

I am buying my 16 year old grandson his first bow set for Christmas for target practice. I am concerned about the strength it takes to pull the string back. Please comment on what would be best for him.

+Suzanne Monticello Suzanne - Regarding the draw weight of the bow, I would recommend getting him a 35# or 40# bow (at 28"). This will allow him to focus on form, but still allow him enough weight legally to hunt if he decides to. Traditional archery is VERY different from compound archery, and you don't want to get "overbowed", especially as a new archer. If you buy him a 35 or 40 pound bow @ 28", I guarantee you cannot go wrong. Hope that helps!

How do you not hit your wrist when you release the string?
@s3archery849
@s3archery849 8 лет назад
+Sharif Razzaq Sharif - The bow is designed to have approximately 7.5" between the grip and the string, so that is what prevents the string from hitting my wrist. Most bows have a "brace height" between 6" and 8"...the larger the brace height, the more forgiving the bow is and less likely it is the string hits your arm/wrist. Thanks!

So I should twist it until it's 7.5inches from string to bow?
@s3archery849
@s3archery849 8 лет назад
Every bow is different, but a safe bet is a 6.75"-7" brace height.

,sounds like your arrows are way to light in grain per pound very loud and noisy bow. My Kodiak is very quiet I'm shooting Bear Micro flight 8 arrows with four fletch 5" feathers
@s3archery849
@s3archery849 9 лет назад
Bob CaSteel Bob - Thanks for the comment/suggestion. I have shot the Bear Kodiak for the past year and a half, and unfortunately, the Kodiak doesn't do well with long draw lengths. I have a 29.75" DL, and no matter what arrow I shoot (472 grains-750 grains), it is loud. Then, when Dan (27.5" DL) shoots the same arrow/bow combination, it is dead silent. Great bow, shoots great, but definitely not designed for DL's greater than 28" if you want a silent bow. Thanks for watching our vids!

I have a problem with the arrow moving away from the side plate when I draw. Do you have any suggestions that I might try to help me. Thanks
@clintsummers9728
@clintsummers9728 7 лет назад
Steve Hansel my only suggestion is making sure your fingers aren't curling around the string at all. just drawing with the pads of your fingers. if you go all the way to the first knuckles where you're holding the string it can twist the string. hope I explained that good enough. good luck!

Im just a newb, but heres how i remedy that problem. First off, so you know, im shooting a 45lbs recurve and i have a 30 draw length. I cant my bow slighly when i shoot, that way gravity helps hold the arrow aginst the riser. Secondly, i noticed most of the time this problem happend to me was during the draw stroke its self, not the relise stage. I lay my left index finger over the arrow untill im ready to release.

As a instick archer I agree in second technigue. String draw is much better. I remember one time as kid to to hit middle of car's rim, moving car that is, with string draw and arrow with out fletchings. It on had metal string in weightings in end top. We had newer even heard proper fletching that time, we just playing around basic handmeid bows with out any instruction, very common type of game in my time and generations before me among my people. No they all in internet instead shooting wooden arrows to each other in woods... :(
