It's nice to see HEMA be practiced in Eastern countries, I understand it's a bit niche and new there. I hope with due time a dominant form of saber will emerge. I didn't see a historical form, but it is still good to play around with sabers. They are much more intuitive than most swords! This was a fun video to watch
ok-ish work on the saber, but you only make it look heavy, just keep on practicing it and understand how to use the weight properly then you'll get why they chose the heavy guard. Then again they won't' show it in HEMA, so better explain it to you Korean dojo guy. The reason why the guard is that thick is you actually can punch people with the guard for the guard that big and thick was actually very close quarter combat which they show old European manual but the reason why in HEMA they don't use this is that it is very lethal just like using the edge of your shield or shield bashing on opponent's head which some HEMA let shield bashing depending legal to use or illegal to use but it is very illegal to use long sword's guard because some guard can puncture helmet and killing a person just like a pickaxe for no matter how blunt the tip of long sword's guard it is very illegal to use that way. If you have a special guard that doesn't puncture like a pickaxe, you might be in the safe zone. On other occasions, if you would like to learn about the long sword's story why it was picked moreover then mace or frail for I will explain it here if you play chivalry 2 or Mordhau for they have an animation for the long sword that person switches the side from the blade holding to upside down holding on to the blade instead of the handle. That is hammer strike the long sword but don't remember the name the style but it is real, the fact this was rarely seen in battle is because depending enemy fighting a knight who got thick armor for they will trade blow using the guard or pommel of the sword then they switch back to a sword but mainly weakening opponent or to kill them. It was a pain the rear (ass) and took a very long time to have scripture figure out how it worked it took a while in writing, painting, and understanding until they tested in real life as it show how it was practiced. Same as the saber, there is a special way fight with the saber for it wasn't slow, it was really a challenge people use the sword (arming sword) vs a saber for you want to dive into west Asia was between of Arabic people and close to Europe people which these sabers was known their fierce strength and dexterity. This comes down as learning your footwork differently because I watch many different saber fighting style and their footwork was different from one another even their striking style was way different for some has interesting "counter" style for you won't see in any of them on youtube but in some old manual script how the fighting with a terrifying saber. This sword competes against the long sword in so many ways and so many levels, this was the weapon greatly used during its changes from scimitar to saber. Thus this sword was able to kick the long sword out of the race.
