For RCD testing you no longer need to record the 5X reading only the highest 1x reading. They changed it on the last amendment

Hi Nick, VAR I believe is variable voltage injection. On the new Megger MIT 420/2, you can change the injected voltage with 50 v increments, it may be less. I think your MFT will be the same but obviously way more amazeballs.

An incomplete ring for me is C2 not FI as you know the problem, an incomplete ring, needs repairing or de-rating

Makes me wonder why dont we fit single socket redail ciruit to cupboards with boilers to plumbers only got a plug to mess with.

I replaced a double socket with a triple USB socket in my kitchen two years ago and it fits comfortably in the original 25mm deep KO box (for future reference). Brill vid Mr Bundy-beard. No more Bendy-Bundy 😂

Hi Nick. Just a thought but the setting VAR might mean variable. When the plug is in the MFT it might mean that you can change the test lead from L to CPC or L to N or N to CPC without having to swap the leads around in the back of the tester. Might be wrong but you could try it and see.

Hi Nick, it will be good to see how you feel about the new Megger after a few weeks of playing with all those buttons. I'm bit of a Luddite, so I like the old dials. By the way, after Ammendment 2 you should be recording the RCD tests at 1 x In rather than 5 x. I heard this change was prompted by the drop in quality of the cheaper imports i.e. they can't stand up to multiple testing without premature failure. I find it difficult to believe this is the reason, but the way the world is going it seems we would sell our souls to save a buck.

This tester is looks slick. I want one. Btw you only test RCDs as AC type no matter what type.

Its great that as electrains, we have to follow are regs but have to fellow building regs etc. But kitchen fitters seem to be a law to them selves. . I'll bet there was acess to the stop cock. But thet didnt care about the plug sockets.

That kind of thing angers me. Suppose someone had seriously over-loaded that circuit, and you being the last person to test it, are in the hot seat. I'm time-served, did the old G&G EIW 236 parts 1,2, & 3. Went back and did 15th, 16th & 17th edition regs at my own cost. I left the industry for pastures new and don't have up to date regs training or testing certification, therefore can't certify any work. There you have a plumber messing with a circuit which could potentially be a fire hazard. Where is the come-back? If a spark messed with a gas boiler, it would be a different story completely.

Take the doors off the oven first. You only flip a couple of levers and they slide off. Easier to lift the oven out. Not sure about the lack of auto test on your new megger.

You only got to do 1 x rcd test now & set to ac on the test meter 😊

VAR could be for varistor to test SPD’s. I know Kewtech and Metrel have it.

Great video, I also prefer to fix faults than write down observations. I'm sure I saw a complicated settings page on that tester somewhere and there's bound to be an auto-test option. One little comment, even when the RCDs are type A they should confusingly be tested using the Type AC setting. The Type A test adds 6ma DC current and the required results for this test are actually not in BS7671, only the manufactures standards. Some devices out there (e.g. Lewden) will trip at more than 40ms at x5 on a Type A test, but less than 40ms on a Type AC test and this is still a pass. (There's a complete Eefix video with Lewden and Megger sitting around a table talking about this which makes for entertaining viewing as the poor Megger guy has to subtly change his story as the video progresses!)

I got my mft x1 the other week and phoned megger technical the first day I used it to ask about the auto test function they said it was coming in first software update but couldn’t give me a date

You should "null" the plug top test lead that plugs into the meter.. nice meter tho lovely jubbly!.. absolutely agree with certs, someone comes along, adds a spur or other shitty add on DIY Dave just throws crap into the whole system test, shouldn't be allowed, it's like tapping off a gas supply...is that OK?....phhh...

Would you be willing to sell your old 1711 or do you know of anyone selling one? Starting to get some funny readings on mine but cant quite get an order in for an X1 just yet. April 21 last EICR ? That is valid for 5 years. Don't need a new one on change of tenant then. "The regulations require that electrical installations are tested at regular intervals of no more than 5 years." This means that an EICR should clearly state a specific period of time for which the report will remain valid, usually 5 years. During this time the report remains valid and can be given to any tenants who move into the property over the period
