Thanks as ever for this update Marc. I agree re your rationale re Williams. Frustrating thou that Team Sainz are taking so long to make their decision. Especially as this has been rumoured for so long. Hints put out by all parties for some time. Or maybe they are just playing the media game and teasing everyone, trying to get more column inches etc. How do you think Carlos will stack up vs Alex? I don’t recall their track record/history. Even match? Alex driving v v well these days. Who’s got the upper hand do you think? Ps. A lovely change of setting for the video. You’ve got a v creative wife. Lucky man :)

I agree with you about choosing Williams. The engine would be the decider. Williams has the Merc. Alpine has no clue yet, and Audi is anyone's guess. One less variable for a team to get right.

It caught me off guard whilst checking seedstream. Quite surprised. I do love an underdog, but Alpine doesn't even know what they want to be at the moment. Have to agree Williams seems most likely, but not by much. Whoever ends up in the second Williams seat I think it needs to be an experienced driver like Sainz/Bottas (maybe even Danny Ric as an extreme outside chance).

Audi is cuestionable because when Seidl left McLaren, Stella took his position and the team improved to the point that they are fighting for podiums, but Kick Sauber isn't improving at all under Seidl's administration. Alpine is the frustrated dream of Luca Di Meo now looking for an engine supplier and getting Flavio as advisor (with all his cuestionable choices and repercussions). And Williams is just surviving under Mercedes help, Vowles is working with few resources and changing 20 years of non effective processes and software. Tough decisions ahead for Sainz...

Audi: We offer you a 5 year contract, $75 million, works team, major manufacturer with a history of success, team built completely around you, with you as the face of our brand worldwide... Williams: We offer you underachievement, lack of parts, no downforce, not a works team, but we did some stuff in 1993 or something... Alpine: We are French. And we have Flavio. And we don't even want our own engine.

Audi wouldn't be the first major manufacturer to enter the sport with big money and a history of success only to underachieve. Heck, it wouldn't even be the first to do it at Hinwil. And that's an extremely superficial take on what's going on at Williams right now. Just as with Audi-Sauber, there are never any guarantees, and I'm not predicting anything, but James Vowles *really* looks like he knows what he's doing there. He says himself that they aren't even trying yet: this is the “move fast and break things” phase. It's interesting that Marc thinks it might be Carlos's best option too.
@fiarandompenaltygeneratorm5044

@@duncansnowden6857 "James Vowles really looks like he knows what he's doing there": meanwhile, in reality, the Williams line-up on the back-row at Barcelona. Your take is so superficial, you're ignoring the reality on the track. BMW is not Audi. And Audi is not Toyota. They are not a fickle company. And if you knew anything about their history in motorsports you would realize that---long term---this project is more likely to succeed than fail.
@duncansnowden6857
@duncansnowden6857 2 месяца назад
@@fiarandompenaltygeneratorm5044 And F1 isn't the WEC. Sure, there's plenty of reason to think Audi will be a success, but it's completely unproven *in F1*. And yes, I am ignoring the reality on track for Williams this year. Deliberately so. Because they're still in that phase of deconstructing the “old” Williams and figuring out what works or doesn't. As I said, Vowles has openly admitted that they're not even trying yet; it's the SpaceX “the data is the payload” philosophy of learning from failure. Judge them next year and in 2026. Again, I'm not saying they *will* be successful then, but there's a lot of reason to think they *can* be.

The best thing for Alpine is for them to sell. The management don't have the first clue about F1, and are just embarrassing themselves now. Audi will promise investment and titles, but when? Williams are near the back, but they have momentum - they already announced some new technical staff, and Albon seems able to get the car into the top 10 at times - it's going to take a couple of years for Audi to be in a similar position. So ... Sainz will go to Williams, I think, and stay in touch with Audi for 2027.
