Does one need to become a lifelong disciple of Jesus, and constantly abide in His word in order to be saved?

I know Right?! And unlike works based salvationists, Dr. Bob Wilkin actually gives other verses and context of verses to back up what he's saying

This is part of the great deception in the church today. The apostasy among people who believe being a disciple is what saves them. We have to be born again, before we can become a disciple. Ephesians 1:13 But what do people preach. That we can lose our salvation unless we live a holy life. We aught to live a Holy life, but living a Holy life does not save us. We are saved When we believe Jesus has paid our sin debt in full, and has given us HIs righteousness. Romans 4:6-8 He has imputed HIs righteousness to us, and will no more impute sin to our account. So the holiness people believe they are saved by their own holiness instead of the righteousness of Christ that He Gives us as a free gift. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, the bad news, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord, The good news. Once we are born of God, (Ephesians 1:13 ) we are predestined to be raised at the resurrection. We are Born into Gods family, and Hebrews 13:5 says, He will never leave us or forsake us. John 6:37 says, He will never cast us out. And as you say, if we go off and live in sin, we reap what we sow and God will chasten his children even to taking our life early, but we can not lose our salvation. First Corinthians 5:5. This believer was sleeping with his fathers wife. Paul said it was so bad that even the unbelievers we talking about it and it was public knowledge. Paul said to bar him from fellowship in the church and turn such a one over to Satan to kill his flesh, so that His Spirit would be saved in the day of the Lord. We can not save ourselves by what we do, and we can not lose our salvation by what we do. But if we do no good works we will have no rewards in heaven and be ashamed at His coming. Our salvation is secure IN HIM. We have eternal life. But we should go on to good works for profit in heaven. Never for salvation which was paid in full by Christ. Those who trust in their works for salvation are not saved. Matthew 7:21-23 And the preachers who add works to grace will be cast into the fire to be burned because they are preaching a false message of works salvation. Matthew 7:15-20. There is a great difference between salvation by grace, and earning heaven by good works. These mostly unsaved people believe salvation is a process, and not instantaneous when we believe the gospel. They just can not understand that sinners are saved because thy do not believe they are a sinner. They believe being born again means giving up your bad habits and changing your life in obedience to God to save us because we have a changed life. Those may all be good things to do , but have no value in saving a sinners. A sinner is born again when we trust Jesus as our savior and we have eternal life. They just can not believe John 6:47. Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that beleiveth on me, HATH ETERNAL LIFE. Present tense. And they live in constant fear that they can sin willfully and lose their salvation. In reality they are trusting in their works, or what they do to save themselves. They are their own savior and believe Jesus died in vain. I can not fathom standing before a Holy God and being told, depart from me I never knew you. Not because they did not live a good life, but because they did not trust Jesus as their savior and were never born again. They only have religion, but not salvation. Jesus said there will be many. God knows His own. Second Timothy 2:19. Everyone who is born of God by faith alone in Christ alone is saved because we have the seal in us of the Holy Spirit who will never leave us or forsake us no matter what.

I have already used up more space than I should, But I want so badly for people to be saved. We tell people they have to repent of their sin to be saved. No. That word repentance in the English dictionary is not what it says. It is the Greek word, metanoeo, which means to change your mind. Go from unbelief to belief. It means to quit trusting in what you do to save yourself by works, to trusting in Jesus grace for all sin. Romans 11:6. Romans 4:5. We are justified by faith, not by works Romans 4:2 If Abraham were justified by works, he would have something to glory in, but not before God. Abraham was justified by faith, 400 years before God gave Moses the law. You can repent of sin for the rest of your life and still go to hell. Repenting of sin saves no one, and is a work, not grace. Bottom line. We are justified by faith in Christ alone by faith alone. And do not let those deceive you and tell you that faith is neve alone. IT is alone. If a person trust's Jesus as their savior, and died 10 minutes later, they having done nothing good or bad and go right to heaven. If they live another 100 years, they are just as saved as when they first believed. I love this verse. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. JESUS PAID IT ALL AND WE PAID 0, IT IS FREE. AMAZING GRACE, NOT AMAZING WORKS

Wow, that's alot of confused words. They weren't true disciples if they didn't believe, wolves/nonbelievers. To simply put it, disciples are believers who spread The Gospel, this is The Great Commission. We abide in the word because apart from God we can do nothing and to continue to learn and grow in God's word John 15:3-5 👑 John 17. Mark 16:15-16 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned

Disciple making is the main money raising rationale for ministries. Thanks for exposing this lie. Faith cometh by hearing. Who hasn't heard? Tell them, which can be done for free without need of building funds, and let the Holy Spirit do His work!

I think this misses something. In Luke 14, Jesus says that unless one puts Jesus first above everyone else including themselves, they CANNOT be his disciples. Said another way, unless oneself is put last, you will not be able to learn from Jesus as his student and you will not become like him. After all, how do you serve both Jesus and yourself? How do you turn the other cheek, return good for evil, do acts of righteousness and fast and give with a proper heart unless you have died to yourself and your will and desires? We were never meant to live for ourselves. Self-interest produces nothing but sin. "If you live for yourself, you will die, but if you give up your life for my sake, you will live." Salvation is by grace through faith, but we live differently because Jesus has cleared our sin debt and we understand that living for ourselves is the reason we were headed for judgment in the first place so we REPENT and commit to keeping a clear conscience before God. Jesus himself equates discipleship to dieing to Self and to eternal life. I do not believe the Bible teaches that you can have eternal life if you are not a disciple, if you are living for yourself or said another way, living with a self-will at all (not being perfect, of course, but growing and maturing towards total selflessness and God-willed behaviour, or in other words, love). Selfish disciples are not disciples and do not have eternal life. We have to get this right and not pick and choose the verses we like. I'm still not sure I totally comprehend God's salvation, but the early church was BUSY. Idle Christians were cast out of fellowship. We have something very mixed up in our Theology today, I think.

Greek New Testament only)) the most ancient text too
@davidbmilton524
@davidbmilton524 4 года назад
@@Liminalplace1 Right! To think that the "Majority Text" is superior to the most ancient Texts, simply because the MT is in consistent agreement across thousands of copies is... well I don't want to insult. The consistent agreement is there because a great many people put it there, and they had hundreds of years to alter the texts to all be in agreement around their theological agenda to institutionalize the church with apostolic succession, various priesthoods, get the church meeting in vaulted buildings, etc. It's obvious that "the Church" went off the rails very early... Irenaeus and Origen both wrote in favour of infant baptism for example. Paul said "the mystery of iniquity is already working" in reference to a falling away that was to come (2 Thes 2:3-8). The earliest text possible would obviously be the closest to the expression of original Christianity.

So go and make disciples is NOT a recruitment drive! It's just to give out the correct information the world over. No coercion. I believe that this has been accomplished or very close to it so Christ will be returning soon.

I believe we have free will to walk away from our faith, hence lose our salvation. If someone was a true convert and obedient to Gods word, etc... Then walks away, falls away... say 5 years goes by and this person rapes, steals, fornicates, covets, lies, etc... and this person dies. You really believe he’s going to heaven? I don’t believe the Bible teaches that. Too many 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. 🙏🏾

J K thanks for sharing. I used to believe the way you believe but now I believe differently. One of the things that has helped me is knowing my identity in Christ and what he says in his word concerning his faithfulness. Your obedience will not keep you saved, your obedience did not save you and it will not keep you saved. Think about it, if it was left up to us we would all fail. We all stumble in many ways every day. The warnings that you speak of I believe are for Christians but not in the age we live in now. Look at the Scriptures where it says we are sealed with the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption. After the rapture of the church things will change and it will be by faith and the keeping of the Commandments or obedience. For me it has help me to learn to rightly divide the word of God and put scriptures in their proper place.

If anyone bases salvation on any kind of works, before, during, or after salvation, then let them be accursed, as Paul would put it.

This is the fact of the matter. You absolutely can lose your salvation. Your faith saves you, but you can walk away from Christ.

Jn. 6 were false disciples, falling away proves they were never of the Lord. Can men follow Christ, but not be His? Judas Iscariot. Also, A disciple is a Christian, a Christian is a disciple as Acts presents. Everyone that does not bear fruit will be cut down and cast into the fire as the Scripture states. The parables of the sower are the same as the other parables, true and false converts. Good fish and bad fish; wheat and tares; wise and foolish virgins, etc. There are sheep and goats. It is black and white, but this man doesn't accept the Scriptures and is teaching that causes people who are saved to lax in their walk with the Lord and also giving false believers assurance. If their life doesn't bear fruit in keeping with repentance, they are not His sheep, they are goats.

Cody Cook You need to do more research into this matter...its much more complex than you think.
@jimkraft9445
@jimkraft9445 6 лет назад
In that parable of the sower the only one who was not saved was the first one. The next two were saved, but never produced any fruit. The last one produced fruit and had rewards in heaven. Salvation is a free gift without works. Ephesians 2:8-9 and Romans 11:6 we are saved the minute we trust Jesus as our savior and sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise. Ephesians 1:13. It is the false teachers in Matthew 7:15-20 that preach salvation by works that are cast into the fire to be burned. Verse 19. The Gospel. First Corinthians 15:1-4. When we believe that gospel we are given eternal life. Galatians 1:7-9 Though we or and angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let them be accursed. As we said before, so say I again if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let them be accursed. We are saved when we believe the gospel that all our sin debt has been paid in full and we are now going to heaven by what Jesus has done for us, not by what we do. Our works. Romans 11:6. Romans 4:5. Do not listen to false teachers who preach you can be saved by works, or lose your salvation by works. We are saved by His finished work on the cross plus nothing. We have nothing to boast in but the cross. Ephesians 2:8-9. Amazing grace, Jesus paid it all and we paid 0. it is free. Romans 6:23.
