Ride along with Sammy Swindell in the Blazin 82 at Eldora Speedway during his Heat race run from 5th to 3rd . Also watch as he searchers around the track and goes to the bottom and watch how close he gets .
I had the privilege of sitting in a 360 Sprint car. You are literally sitting in a box, my feet were behind my knees. The left rear wheel is damn close to the back of your elbow. Anyone that fly's around the track in a Sprint car is a BADASS!!
yea that's what is amazing. some these guys are big boys sandwiched in so tight. really is. and turnin in instead of away to avoid accident- yea bad ass big time!
What?! No it isn’t. It’s. Comfortable sit spot ur brake slides fwd and throttle on point. U don’t feel ur feet behind u knees at all what are sayin ima driver since minis and in then now.
Your whole team is awesom Sammy! This is a genius way to let us ride with you! I was rooting for you this year(2019) for the Kings Royal. Good racing!!
Try 1350lb with fuel and driver onboard. I've personally witnessed dyno numbers closer to the 1000hp mark on a few occasions. Heart stopping methanol drinking fire breathing go-karts, if you will. At this level of racing there have been instances where the top 18 qualifiers in a 24 car field were separated on the time sheets by less than 0.4sec. Grassroots Racing at its Finest! I encourage anyone who cares to share in this experience, to visit your local dirt track one summer evening. You would not be disappointed...
POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO IS INCREDIBLE ONE OF THE BADDEST BIG BOY TOYS ON THE PLANET!!!! AND SAMMY BEING ONE OF THE BEST SPRINT CAR DRIVERS TO EVER LIVE I.M.O.EXCELLENT VIDEO.
1st lap at turn 3-4... bloody hell!!! I thought the wheel slapped the barrier but if you watch it at 1/2 speed its about 1-2 inches off when it hits the mound and bump steers into the wall. That could have been nasty!
Never forget when Sammy broke the record at the mile track at Syracuse, they asked him when did he realize he had a fast lap , his answer was when I looked up on the tower as I was going by . They also put the dirt down at Bristol, the sprint cars turned 3 seconds a lap faster than NASCAR did !
I dont think he ever touched the wall. left front runs over a mound of dirt. lifting the left front off the ground and he just steers left to counter the push that caused in the car.
I grew up going to Sharon Sppedway. Lou Blaney, Ralph Quarterson, Buddy Cochran. Sorry, showing my age. It’s a great track and I visit every time I come back home.
Right ... !!!! I've not seen much in-car camera Sprint stuff ..... let alone Sammy Swindell really making'it Happen footage ....... Panic Attack inducing inches off N away from EVERYTHING N EVERYONE ..... !!!!🤘😝🤘!!!!

Not very familiar with these cars so what is the red lever he was adjusting before the race started? Im guessing some kind of fuel mixture lever? Edit: also noticed he adjusted it a few time during the race so now im really curious
Direct drive the drive shaft is bolted to crank no trans there is a in and out box which allows to b in neutral and running but to take off again u got to shut it down and push it again its in the rear diff that's it that's why they got to push start just a magneto no electrical system at all u stop fuel to shut it off
yea, the leader was taking the high line all the way around, sammy was definitely taking the low one. Wow, that left front tire was freaking inches off the wall on a couple of those laps in turn 4. What a rush that would be to drive one of those things. So much power in a really light dune buggy essentially.
Brings back a lot of memories running 360s & 410s years ago. Never liked running these super slick small tracks . Preferred the longer tracks that you can throttle down on , just powering thru the turns high then carrying the wheels down the straightaway
I retired from driving in 1996. You must have never run Eldora. With the right set up and track conditions it was a throttle down track when not driving in traffic.
It's not that it's floppy there are a couple of things that are going on that give it that look though. 1. The steering box is usually 6:1 or faster as far as the ratio goes therefor the slightest of movements or slack in the system are seen. 2. Keep in mind the steering gear is located by the driver and it connected by a drag link to the steering arm on the front axle. There is no centrally located rack up front inline with the axle like you do on your street car. So changes in the position of the axle from hitting bumps and such will actually alter the geometry alittle. There other things that can cause it, but those are to two that immediately come to mind.
Gotta keep the wheels loose because of the constant movement of the dirt below. Tight wheels would lock up and cause you to crash or roll over. Loose wheels soften the momentum on the car when you are sliding. Watch something like the Chili Bowl midget racing and you'll see an even smaller track and smaller cars yet massively wobbling wheels as well.
@@Howard.Stern. Are you saying that if you held the steering wheel so it did not move, you could grab the front wheels and move them left to right and there'd be movement in them?
Most likely the wing slider valve. If you lookup DMI Wing valve I bet that's what it is. The other possibility is a fuel shut off valve, but the color leads me to think it's a wing slider valve.
Jay Dubs and Jayss10: The red lever is definitely the hydraulic wing slider valve. Notice he keeps looking up to confirm it's where he wants it. At 0:07 he reaches below the wheel and his left hand stays there until 0:13. You can hear the engine slowly lean out and gain RPMs. That's not his foot on the throttle, he's slowly closing the fuel valve so it doesn't load up on the start. Some drivers do this because it works, his engine really did jump. What blows my mind is I never see him reach back down to open it back up, after he gets going. Apparently he didn't restrict fuel flow more than what ever injector pill he's running.
If you watch after the checkered flag (3:56) when he pushes the red lever forward, you can see the wing at the top of the screen moving forward. It appears he pushes it all the way forward, and then backs it up just a bit.
And, to actually think I believed I could be a super modified or 410 sprint car driver at one time. Hahahahahaha! Not a chance. As soon as the green fell, I would have made a hard left into the pits, parked, got out, ran to the bathroom and scooped the poop out of my pants. LMAO
You & me both. These are my favorite cars. Super modified & sprint cars. But I love open wheel. Midgets, or whatever. Got have the $$$ to do it though.
Nope..... he still hasn't learned his lesson. In the early 90s, he was at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and was hit by a large dirt claude. It went straight through his face shield, and broke his nose. Still… No rock guard.
Brett Perigo: Weight my ass. Drivers read a track like a golfer reads a green. Do you see any golfers taking a knee looking threw a shopping cart? What surprises me is Sammy's LOW make-shift tear off post and that he doesn't bend each one back so they pop up like a klenex. Sammy, banana shaped tear-offs aren't that much more expensive.
They have a 2 speed transmission. Basically first gear is enough to get you rolling at caution speed then you shift into second and from there it's just raw power after that. I drove a modified stock car on an asphalt track and the setup is similar.
As was I back in the 70's back then there were in and out boxes bolted to the back of the engine now it's a coupler in the quickchange. Got beat by a guy on a constant basis by a guy who's in the Sprint Car Hall of Fame
@@shilpi326 Ganasi cars are crap, just ask past championship winner kenseth... Kyle Larson is a Superior talent. I have watched him win on 4 different tracks this year and his skills are unsurpassed. So glad to see him having fun and being able to enjoy family and friends! You can not keep a good man down...
