margaery is probably actually one of the least problematic characters in the entire show, all things considered. the determination to hate her is so entertaining 😭

Margaery is not an evil bitch: just an intelligent woman doing the only thing intelligent women could do to get power in a society like that. She would be a great queen on her own (with her smart grandmother as hand of the queen). She is manipulative, of course, but not in the same way Littlefinger is, and he has just sold Sansa to a psycopath in his journey to the iron throne... just like that.

Regardless of her methods, Margaery is good at heart. Sure, she’s doing everything she can to be queen, but she’s not hurting anyone in the process. Quite the opposite. Her motives are genuine. Literally, every person in this show is fighting for power, in the grand scheme of things, Margaery’s methods are hardly hate worthy LOL.

Your riff on Margaery is off base. Tommen (pronounced Tom-en) married her because he’s king, it wasn’t up to her. Marriages were arranged in GoT, women didn’t have a choice in the matter. And Mormont wanted Jon for his steward, it was his choice to bring Jon in to train him to take over.

Remember, if Jon takes any titles or rewards from Stannis then he would have to do whatever Stannis wants in the future. Jon doesn’t want that.

Why is it so wrong for Margery to play the game by the rules that were written for her? She's doing what the people in charge want. She's securing the throne, actively trying to secure the line of succession, and she is actually trying to change her environment for the positive. Kings Landing has been shit since Rob died and the people have, up until Margery, hated the royalty. She brings back the love of the common people. Otherwise anything else she's done has just been trying to survive. She knows WHO she must butter up, who to placate, and who to ignore. That's just good wisdom in that kind of environment.

Jon isn't petty, and actually deserves the job of Lord Commander, which is why he didn't use his position to punish or humiliate Thorne (by giving him the latrine job). And he was smart enough to take Stannis' advice and assign Slynt to a different section of the wall. He knew that Slynt and Thorne were allies against him, and by separating these two, they wouldn't be able to act together and plot against him. Also, by promoting Thorne, he showed Thorne and the other men he was willing to work with anyone and treat them with respect - even someone who openly showed antagonism towards him in the past.

Margaery debate incoming: I’m going to be Margaery’s defense team here: Everyone wants power because power = protection, power = safety, power = opportunity. Anyone in this world would be strange for not wanting that. I think a lot of what you guys don’t like about Margaery comes from what she ‘may’ do or what she could be capable of, that you’re not seeing what she ‘has’ done. Margaery is a person that works to get what she needs (in a heavily patriarchal society that isn’t fair to women, might I add), but also gives a positive outcome to the people she’s using: For Tommen: getting him away from his mother is honestly a good thing considering his mother is Cersei. Sansa: trying to get her out of King’s Landing and continuing to console her after that plan fails. The poor: feeding them whenever the Lannisters, specifically Cersei and Joffrey wanted to starve them. Even Joffrey: who everyone agrees needed to be manipulated, obviously. Plus Margaery has every right to be a bitch towards Cersei. She tried to be nice to her and in return, Cersei said “I’ll have you murdered in your sleep.” Now when it comes to grooming, yes, it’s gross. It’s hard to not look at it from a modern perspective and notice the age gap. But it’s apparently common during these times. Even Littlefinger and Sansa could be seen as normal during these times. I also think Roose’s wife is a lot younger than him. There’s no denying it’s disgusting, but it is important to at least remember that Margaery can have a positive influence on Tommen and grow to care for him (not love him romantically, but love him as an ally, much like Renly, and they’ll take care of each other). Meanwhile the same cannot be said for Littlefinger’s influence on Sansa. He is not a positive influence in the slightest. He doesn’t have care for her, just wants to use her. It doesn’t matter if she gets hurt in the process because it’s still a win for Baelish. Margaery wouldn’t do this because this woman does have a heart. This is the same girl who tried to distract Joffrey so he’d leave Tyrion alone. So I think that’s important to keep in mind. But you can obviously think differently on the matter. Anyways, I’ve made my point. Most of us commenters will defend this character. “I heard it’s best to keep your enemies close.” “Whoever said that didn’t have many enemies.” That’s a FIRE line!! And then in a moment she composes herself. I think what’s scary and different about Ramsay vs. Joffrey is that Ramsay does things himself while Joffrey gets his men to do things for him (besides that Ros scene). I don’t think Joffrey would flay anyone alive himself, but rather have people do it for him. Ramsay would do it and that’s kind of terrifying. I wrote too much, but I really like this episode. You guys do realize that Cersei's actions are all about staying in power, right? She wants to stay Queen. Queen Dowager means former queen, mother of current ruler (king/queen) and has much fewer powers. If Margaery has Tommen's baby, it cements Margaery's status as queen. Tommen is king and his word is law, so whomever controls Tommen is the defacto ruler. Your love for Cersei is puzzling. Margaery at least wants to have Tommen's baby. Cersei never wanted another baby with Robert after the first died and only had babies with her brother.

Marg is playing the game, if the conversation is not with her brother than she is most likely making a play. She’s very strategic, so strategic you can’t tell if she’s good or bad.

I know there’s a lot of comments about this already lol, but I really do not understand the hate for Margaery. In the books there is no marriage consummation. Granted they were younger in the books, in the show here, Tommen is 15 and Margaery is around 20-21. Yes it’s disgusting to us, but as you pointed out it’s like medieval times. This was very normal, age gaps were not so big of a problem. However, we do know that Margaery was uncomfortable with this because he’s a child. Keep in mind, Loras (18) is betrothed to Cersei (37) right now. Margaery is doing what all high born ladies are supposed to do: what they’re told. Just like Cersei didn’t have a choice in marriage, Margaery doesn’t either. Yes, Margaery is ambitious, cunning, and will do and say what she can to benefit herself & people she cares about, but she is not evil or malicious. Margaery and the rest of the Tyrells are some of the only characters who are genuinely good people. Margaery knows what to do & say to get what she wants/needs, and she can. She is just like Cersei in terms of intelligence & cunning, but she is not evil. She is trying to get pregnant to secure her position. That’s the only way women were really secure in “times like this”. I understand not liking characters, but the hate for Margaery for no reason still baffles me. Never seen someone make it this far into the series and still not like her lol. To each their own!!

It is interesting that this is probably Renly's best moment in the show, when Brienne explains why she was so devoted to him. Renly was killed off early in season 2 and two further season's go by and through a Brienne's memory of meeting Renlyin season 5 we see why she was loyal to him and get significant insight into Renly's character. Perhaps he would have been a good King.

Yo boys! Another reason Jon Snow cutting off Janos Slynt's head is so satisfying to watch is because Janos is one of the mean who betrayed Ned all the way back in season 1. She was arranged to marry Tommen, she HAS to marry him, she HAS to get pregnant, she is the Queen. She's nice to Tommen. Tommen is gentle and kind and so she treats him accordingly. She is his wife, .She might not love Tommen (probably no one in an arranged marriage does), but shes very sweet and gentle and kind to Tommen. Cersei is a very hateful woman, dont forget all shes done to Sansa, Ned, Tyrion, Jaime, her cousin Lancel... really shes pretty horrible to everyone, and she basically is one of the reasons Joffrey was so horrible. She is not a good person whatsoever, and Margeary knows that, everyone knows that. The Tyrells need to get Cersei away from Tommen, its the smartest play. And honestly, Margeary's tactic to have Tommen side with her is probably the healthiest and nicest strategy.

Catelyn Stark (Tully) was originally supposed to marry Ned’s older brother, Brandon. But when he died, she got set up with his younger brother, Ned. (Same thing that’s happening with Margery’s arranged marriage after Joffrey’s death.) Noble houses marry to forge alliances with other houses. They’re still going to try to make that alliance happen, even if one of the betrothed dies. I know it might seem strange, but it’s normal in this world. I do not understand your hate for her, lol! She’s playing the game as smart as she can, as a noble woman in this world.

Welcome back Boyz. You Boyz made a lot of predictions this episode. A few were dead on, most per usual were far fetched. Very entertaining as always. Just keep them coming. We all made predictions in our head, most were wrong too. The good thing about you Boyz, is that you pause & spit it out. The Tyrell guy that you think is funny is Margery's dad, not grandfather. Most people made that mistake. Orlenna mentioned her son, just one time, so if you missed the dialog, where she said it, you made that mistake like the rest of us. & Boyz don't worry about the Margery hate coming your way. Most these comments are armed with hindsight, watching the show over & over again. I would have loved to see at this point, w/o any books or watching the show for the first time, episode by episode, on how advanced their advise in the comments, would of been when they were in your shoes. You have a right to your doubts of her at this point. If they said any different than you, they're lying. You've got to love these Monday Morning QBs, they're all wizards of wisdom, WAY AFTER THE FACT. The show is great, best show ever, but you've got to go through some tough comments from people who try to manipulate you. There was nothing but love when the few dozen original reactors were reacting to the episodes as they first aired. No Monday Morning QBs, because we were all pretty clueless as to what would come next for the most part. Which is why we loved the show so much.

I mean, no one is denying Margery is plotting and has high goals. But that could be said for 99% of the characters, and at the end of the day she is helping the poor and trying to be a good queen. While of course you're free to your own opinions, I don't get all the hate on Margery and not on literally all other characters...

Funnily enough, in the books Tommen and Margaery never consummate the marriage, because he is younger there. It simply never happens, so its kinda a show thing only. Fanservice. meh. You guys haven't still realized that these marriages are 100% for the power of the ruling houses. Lannisters need the Tyrels for their wealth, Tyrels get power, so its a win win thing for both sides. Marriages happen for this reason. Its only natural for Maergery to want to manipulate that further, to solidify power in King's landing. Its the smart thing to do. Nothing more nothing less.

In terms of the Margaery stuff, i mean theyve made it pretty clear all of the marriages are just political, and the tyrell/lanister alliance would fall apart because the tyrells were promised to be made into royalty in some way. So yeah its quick but she never liked any of them anyway, it was all just politicall. All the way back to Renly even. She says she wants to be THE queen, and the only way to do it in game of thrones as a woman is to marry into it. Or to have dragons. Also why is it ok for Cersei to want to be queen when she fucked her brother, helped try to kill Bran, had Sansa's wolf killed, lied to her husband for years about his kids not actually being his, fucked over Tyrion when he did nothing wrong, is just generally making the world a worse place etc. etc.. All Margaery ever did was fuck a few people to get a bit of power which she isn't really using for anything bad anyway

Joffrey is a sadist, but he's also a coward, which is why he almost always had someone else do the torturing for him. Ramsey is a sociopath and a sadist, which is why he can blend in with normal people--that's what they do, since they don't truly have the natural ability to do it on their own, they mimic what they see and act how they think they're supposed to act based on the situation. He enjoys letting the mask fall away and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and do his own torturing, killing and blood-letting. Also, the tattoo conversation you had, great idea 💡 👍🏽 I think you should let whatever family, house, character or saying that resonates the most with you and that you identify with the most, and make your decision from there. As someone with 14 tattoos (a couple being a good size/fairly large) and counting, I always think it's worth a good long conversation with yourself to make sure what you get is really what you want, since it'll be there forever.
