Way better than the original, I used to question why SAO even exists, it has such a cool concept but horrible story telling but this masterpiece gives SAO purpose. Without the animation of SAO this wouldn't be possible.

@@trla6505 Yeah, in one of the light novels, Egil/WhatTheFuckEver mentions his wife's name being Tiffany and expresses relief that he got trapped in the game instead of her, so presumably Egil was actually playing as a female avatar when he first logged in.

Turning the Alfheim players into roleplayers was a stroke of genius to fix the lack of tension now that people don't die in real life when their characters die. It's such a perfect explanation for why everybody freaks out so much over death when they're just playing a regular MMO.

There are penalties for dying in Alfheim Online in actual SAO. You lose some of your inventory. The whole way through Kirito's journey they're on a time crunch, and there's a significantly long minimum respawn time if no one can resurrect you. The fight with Eugene is tense because Kirito is the only thing standing in the way of a huge coup.

There is now less tension. Even though that people do die and take a long time, it is nothing compared to how long it is to ressurect when you actually die.

Gotta remember though a lot who played Alfheim didn't play SAO. To the new Alfheim players, this is high stakes so Death would be a big deal to them- even if they were aware of SAO, knowing of it and experiencing it are two very different things.

@@theonejackal89 While that is true the tension is there BECAUSE of that contrast. Everything Kirito does is honed through fighting for his life daily, while the other alfheim players have been only playing for fun. However, there are complex social structures at work between the nations in the game, and they represent thousands of hours of work for these players, so dying while trying to further that could destry everything, which causes them a lot of reason to try their fucking damnedest. On the other-hand, Kirito only has a short time to get to the World Tree, seeing as teleportation isn't an option, and dying would do more than just set him back, it would send him ALL the way back to the starting towns, not only forcing him to wait a day to try again, but also make his way through the same distance but with entirely new territory to cover for DAYS just to get back to the spot he was before. The tension involved with people dying is no longer there by design. Rather, the consequences of failure inherent in most videogames are the things in the main characters' way. They kill dozens of players on their way which wouldn't otherwise be a thing any of them do, but without that person-vs-person dynamic there wouldn't be an enemy until he got TO Yggdrasil. The consequence of Kirito's failure isn;t the end of his life, but it IS Asuna's marriage and life of bondage to Major Rapeface, which is a fate I'd call worse than death. He's not fighting for his life anymore, he's fighting for his WIFE, and the tension shown previously in the show (which wasn't much even with the whole threat of death thing) is still there, if you give even an ounce of thought.

I love how casual Tiffany and Kirito are in the real world. Kirito actually apologizes for his shouting about something pretty understandable, and is clearly a nerd about playing video games. And Tiffany still makes it clear he doesn't like Asuna since she's not in this world right now and therefore there are no consequences for saying it.

Loved how this better explains why Kirito doesn’t have PTSD and isn’t afraid to go back in a virtual game, like he should in original SAO. Abridged Kirito was better off in Aincrad than he was irl and he knows it so of course he’s excited to go into another game. It’s amazing how much more character development and story goes into this parody than its original source material.

The experience he survived wasn't all bad hence why I doubt it would even result in PTSD. A lot of people forget about the bad and focus on the good parts. Not to mention it's the only thing in Kirito's life that he's good at, so he's even more likely to get back into it even if it would be destructive in hindsight.

Ok here's an incredibly nerdy detail I JUST NOTICED. The name of Yui's file. Is MHCP001. This is a reference to the Playstation I think. As it's Bios was scph1001... And Yui is an AI, so... she's an operating system... it makes sense that her file would be setup the same way. This is why this series surpasses the original... that kind of detail.

Yea it always bugged me that he was able to use Kirito in ALfheim Online so easily, you would think at least a few dozens players would use that handle once news who was the Hero of SAO. At least Death Gun was unsure if was the real Kirito in SAO II when he first saw him

You know, as messed up as the prank fail is, in a way, Kirito did have to put her in there anyway, someone pointed it out in fridge brilliance in tv tropes, that she would’ve been deleted along with everything else in aincrad when Kayaba deleted everything, so Kirito kinda did save Yui from actual death.

Nathan Lang no, he goes right to the virtual bones and muscles (inverted controls were not mentioned in the Anime). So if the inverted controls are the default, once Leafa gives him flight training, the control inputs are turned the wrong way and...thud.
