My introduction to these glorious machines was in 1968 when I did my military training at Tempe, Bloemfontein. I dare not tell any one of my love of steam locomotives as I believed I people would thing me strange. To my great joy I found I society in 1989 that also loved these Iron horses. A life long dream came true, I was taught to fire by and old steam driver; Marten Venter, and if he had not died in 1993, he might have taught me to drive!
