Very helpful. I am replacing some ropes in my 1870 house and have made the mistake of tying a weight too loose only to have it crash down in the middle of the night. Being very tall windows, it had quite a ways to drop. Loud noise but as soon as I heard it, I surmised what the problem was. Am keen to tie knots correctly from now on so as not to have to take the window apart again. Thank you for this clear demonstration.
in your first video you show how to install the sash rope, in this one how to tie the weights. In between these videos I would like to know where to cut the sash rope ie where they cross over in the first video?
A figure of 8=eight knot works too. Many old weights are rough cast and the hole size can be too large for an 8 knot to hold the weight for several decades. The knot I use is bulkier so there is less chance of the weight slipping off in 20 years time. 😊
@@jimsear I am sorry I didn’t explain myself well. Totally agree with what you said . I was more talking about the other knots for the other kind of weight .
Generally, not a great idea! If you want to, send a couple of photos of the weights and windows I might be able to give some better advice. There is always a solution!
