You've done a great job on this car. I loved every minute of the video. Ref: Halfords Windscreen Wipers: The first time I needed to change them on my first car I went to Halfords and got in the queue to ask for some assistance in fitting them. As I got closer to the desk I heard a collective groan of disappointment from my entire male genetic line. "Don't do it my son, read the manual". Needless-to-say, but I did just that and 5mins later had them fitted. I've never felt so manly. I got nods of approval from all the men in the car park too! Keep up the great work on the channel!

I worked at halfords when I was a spotty teenager, back before they offered a paid fitting service but we used to fit bulbs, wipers and anything up to a stereo if the customer asked. I never had an ounce of training so all these grown adults were getting an untrained kid who was too young to have a driving licence to work on their car. I lost count of how many times I did a job on a customer's car just by reading the instructions on the packaging and borrowing tools off the display. If you ever bought a 10mm or 13mm spanner from Halfrauds while I was working there it was guaranteed to have been used to fit at least one car battery before going out the door.

I still have a complete electronic ignition system, carefully extracted from a 2.0 Sierra, left from my days cobbling scrap together to try and extract some more miles from it. I bought the Sierra, already scrapped, but still running, for spares . I used the engine, but kept the entire ignition system intact, carefully unwound from the loom, for a project Cortina that ended up not happening. The mileage I was covering at the time made adjusting points and timing such a ball-ache, that I wanted my personal Cortina to be free of such hassles. I acquired a 2.0 Pinto engine from a late Granada, hours before it went in the crusher, but couldn’t get the ecu for it’s funny carburettor, so I decided to use a Weber, along with my ex-Sierra ignition, rather than try to make the computerised junk work. Then the Cortina got stolen and burned, before I could finalise the purchase, so the project never happened. When I get back to work, probably after two full years in recovery, I can’t expect to be busy, so maybe I’ll have time to find another home for my 2.0 Pinto and one of the type 9 transmissions I have salted away. The other is supposed to be going into an automatic Granada Scorpio, with the 2.0 dohc engine, for which I had just bought the manual type sump, when I had my accident. Unsure whether that’s still happening, now. 18 months outside in all weather might have put paid to that. But overall, I have lots of Ford-y stuff I look forward to playing with, once I’m finally back in the workshop. All I lack is actual cars to fit it to.
