Great video. Its nice to see these new small companies pushing there way to the market place. Its how things change and stop prices going completely out of control. I still like your jig, simple and works as well if not better than some high end tools. Knowledge is the best tool.

Oops, when I built my garage cabinets, I made a simple drilling jig for the shelf pins which worked - but I made up my own spacing as there was no need (or knowledge about) for standardised spacing. Now I know what I should have done - and as they say you learn through making mistakes. Thanks Peter once again.

That looks like a handy system for cabinet makers as it avoids buying lots of expensive bits and with the doweling jig uses the cheapes ready made joint system.

“Marching together to a brighter future” as in a 32mm spaced future…. LOL! I have been using the Festool 32 mm rail as well as the Mafell system for drilling 32mm spaced holes, using the DD40 Duo Dowel drill. The one from Mafell is impressive wrt the accuracy of the ruler and the DD40 machine (or DDF40). The machining tolerances are impressive to my opinion. But maybe as well part of that brighter future? Well… having a wobble-wobble shelve resting on 3 of the 4 supports, that is too easy to note as a user of the cupboard. And the reduction in time when making the holes, both fast and accurate… if I add “pleasure in my work” to the equation, I feel heading towards another bright future. Bit poorer maybe but smiling.

Now you tell me! Never did like the smaller 32mm- 1/4" shelf pin jigs. After laying them down once or twice, they always got out of register just a bit for me. Spent all that time buying the necessary Festool, LR32 parts (Rail & Sled) and adapting them to my PC 890. Now they come along with what looks to be the perfect jig to replace the LR32 and the Domino 500 for making cabinets and book shelf's. Looks very much like a counter top corner router trimming jig as well. Not to hard to figure out some of the other uses for that jig just by looking at it. Well done.

Hi Peter pop along to your local commercial motor factor, and you should be able to purchase short clevis pins of all sizes ( used mainly on air brake chambers)

Hay Peter. I have the Bosch ‘holy rail’. You can buy the router sled and rails separately. I have the 1600mm rail and use a DeWalt 625 on the sled. Works okay. It does not look as easy to use for 32mm spacing as the Festool as it does not have the same leaver mechanism to lift the locating pin. Certainly saved buying a Festool router and I like the Bosch track saw a lot

@@danielegger6460 No, it's also available in 1600mm and rails can be joined to have longer len (like 2400). There are another issue with jig: you need to sharpen pin (a bit) to fix skipping of holes

Interesting jig. It may not have the flexibility of the Festool LR32 jig (provided one has a suitable Festool router, or made an adapter plate), but this also means it should be easier to set up while still enabling quality results. It should be way better than the cheaper jigs which rely on a portable drill rather than on a router to drill each hole.

Because it’s going to come from Germany customs duty, vat, shipping company handling charges, first born child tax etc etc may end up being due. Under £135 (I think) and it should be the price you see is what you pay but above that, ie you buy the jig and the dowel upright piece, and you risk getting hammered by everyone. May be worth buying the bits separately?

Just looked at ordering and it appears they take off VAT when you put in GB on the plain jig on it’s own. That means you’re probably going to get a bill from UPS before they deliver…

Nice bit of jiggery pokery there bud. Actually not the first i've seen to combine shelf pin holes and dowelling for carcases but a pretty good one by the looks of it. Don't suppose they had the foresight to space the locating pins multiples of 32mm apart? Was thinking if they did, working on an MFT like you do, you could drop the pins through the bench holes if they're too long so they're not in the way.

Cheers Stew. Yes, the locating pins are still on the ‘system32’ so that would work. I’d still prefer them to just supply shorter pins though. 🤷‍♂️👍

I picked up the Lee Valley shelf pin jig. Two extrusions and two rods. A bit of a pain to store and find the parts when needed. This looks like a better thought out product. E.g. the pins; I'd swing by the local hardware store and see what is available (or check on line). Hardware can vary in sizes a bit, you may have received ones that were a wee bit on the thick side (assuming no issues with the jig). Cutting the longer pins is probably the way to go but shorter version might be available. Now if they make a version that works with the Domino I'm in serious trouble! :D

Regarding your comment about the long pins, Sautershop shows the work piece raised up off the bench on some pucks.

Yep, absolutely - but not so long that it feels unwieldy on a smaller cabinet, like the 1400 LR32 rail. 👍👍

The two rows of fingers are spaced 96mm apart, but they only take a 17mm guide bush, so ~14mm bit, max. 🤷‍♂️👍

Yes; depends how careful you are with it really. The phenolic is really nice, but it's also heavier. 🤷‍♂️

Can you drill 20mm hinge holes between the 32mm spacing with this? Also what if your workpiece is longer than the jig, I guess you can easily reposition it then?

No.It uses a much smaller guide bush - 14mm, from memory - so no good for that or making your own MFT top.

Its rather unfortunate that tool manufacturers don't spend a little more time researching the designs of their tools before they prepare to mass market them. The indexing pin length that you point out would certainly annoy me. I really can't imagine why one would want longer indexing pins. It's also a waste of materials to make them too long when everyone will just want to cut them off anyway. Great video though. I always like your thorough reviews. I know that there are many influencers out there on IG and RU-vid doing their best to get us to buy the tools they rep. I appreciate your transparency and seemingly unbiased reviews. You labeled this as a AD video, which I appreciate, but I see it more of a real guy like me trying out a tool. Its easy to see you are not a fanboy, blindly marching to be beat of a tool manufacturers drum. Please don't change your style.

As far as I can tell, the pins are off-the-shelf clevis pins - the fatter they get, the longer they get, it seems. 🤷‍♂️

Hello thinking about the shelfpin jig, now I ain't no expert but could you not use UJK parf sticks to do the same job. Sure you can buy these seperat from the UJK mft jig set? Maybe you know of pitfalls for the parff system. Regards Mick.

Never used the Parf guides, but AFAIK the sticks are on 96mm centres, and while they can be used for 32mm and 48mm it’s not straightforward. Also the holes are only 3mm I believe, so you’d need to double-drill, or find some other way. 🤷‍♂️👍

I get Festool pricing = quality and I get in business time = money so investment in equipment that makes you more productive is very worthwhile.. but nope I don't get how most would justify £500 for shelf pin drilling, especially in the days of CNC..

LR32 is a great system and I’m not planning on swapping it for this; but if you’re in the market for a 32mm system then this is worth looking at. LR32 is faster to use though, and offers longer rails that are usefully their own right. 👍👍
